The Last Ship centers on the crew of a naval destroyer who, after a global catastrophe decimates the Earth’s population, are forced to confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they are among the only survivors. Baldwin will play Mike Slattery, second in command to Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) onboard the USS Nathan James. He and Tom clash at times over the best course of action.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Sounds like an interesting plot. Hope it gets picked up. Be good to see Adam be part of a crew again.

Its been awhile since I've read the book, but IIRC, his character will be the "bad guy". The guy that plots against his Captain, the one that you can't really trust...

I'm unsure if he can pull off that kind of role...

Destroyer Halsey goes Hollywood for TV series (16 Nov)

goes-hollywood-for-tv-series/article_c67b9e78-38c9-546f-a934-ecb5d83d2fff.html

Maybe San Diego should be called Hollywood South. ... The latest
is "The Last Ship," the pilot for a TNT series about life aboard a
fictional destroyer following a nuclear war. Filming was recently
carried out on the San Diego-based destroyer Halsey, which also
had a supporting role in "Battleship," the Michael Bay movie that
opened in late spring. TNT also shot some of the pilot at Naval
Base San Diego.

The network is adapting a 1988 novel by William Brinkley, who tells
the tale of the Nathan James, a destroyer whose crew participates
in a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union, then roams the seas, look-
ing for ways to survive. ...

Destroyers don't carry much fuel and even moving at low speed would run out of gas in a week or so.

Hmm, might be facing a tough road, given the simmilarities to the recently-cancelled Last Resort.

The article mentions that they also don't carry nuclear weapons.

But yeah ... a sci-fi destroyer can do whatever the writers want it to do.

IIRC, part of the plot of the book was dealing with a fuel shortage.

Ignore too much reality, and don't attract a fantasy audience to compensate, and you don't have enough viewers to sustain the show.

Like Joss says, it can move at the pace of plot.
So story is the only fuel needed.
