There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

September 20 will mark the ten year anniversary of the first FOX broadcast. I haven't watched the show for a while, not since I got the Blu-Ray a couple of years ago, but I intend to marathon it beginning then, but starting with "Serenity" (the pilot) rather than "The Train Job" of course. FOX

My schedule might not work out exactly as planned due to other events interfering, but here's how I hope it will go:

Thursday, 9/20 - Serenity, the pilot
Fri, 9/21 - The Train Job + Bushwhacked
Sat, 9/22 - Shindig + Safe
Sun, 9/23 - Our Mrs. Reynolds + Jaynestown
Mon, 9/24 - Out of Gas + Ariel
Tue, 9/25 - War Stories + Trash
Wed, 9/26 - The Message + Heart of Gold
Thur, 9/27 - Objects in Space
Fri & Sat, 9/28-29 - All of the bonus features, plus re-watching as many of the eps with commentary as I have time for.
Sun, 9/30 - Serenity, the BDM (the seven year anniversary of the theatrical premiere)

Of course, there is a possibility I will call in sick on the 20th and watch it all that day.

I'm not working the 20th or the 21st, so I'll be marathoning the whole thing.

I am toying with the idea of watching the VHS tapes I made during the original broadcasts...commercials and all.

I do have to try and locate my VCR though.

They're going to air their reunion special in November.
I'll bet they'll save a marathon for then.

I checked Science Channel's site today and they have no mention of Firefly broadcasts in the near future, although I believe they intend to run another marathon either before or after the reunion special in November.

The Syfy Channel has not had the repeat rights for almost four years, so they won't have it either. Both TVGuide and IMDb usually will have broadcast listings up to two weeks in advance, but neither show it airing on any channel within that time frame.

For anyone who doesn't have the DVD or Blu-Ray set (but if not, why not?) it is still streaming on Netflix, Hulu.com and Amazon Instant Video.

That's genius!

I wonder if I still have my first glimpse of Firefly somewhere - an AVI encode of a VHS tape of the unaired pilot. The picture quality was so bad, I decided to wait until it aired properly. Sadly by the time I got to see it, it was already cancelled. Ho hum.

I'm going to watch in the FOX Broadcast order tonight.
I wish I had time for the full FOX experience. I would throw in a couple of baseball games and an Adam Sandler movie too.

Ok... 8pm it is. Just an hour away.

I'm gonna go w/ the pilot, as Joss intended.

Screw the suits @ FOX!

ETA - and as for going w/ the whole 'FOX experience', I also have dvds of John Doe. Alas, they're not exactly HiDef quality ( more like VHS ) but it's all I got.

One thing I didn't like about the dvds was the loss of this from the ending credits.

To be honest, it's been ages since I broke out the series DVD set. Even though I've seen the shows dozens of times, they still never cease to amaze.

So unlike any show before or since... Been said a million times I bet, but even so, it's great to watch again, one more time.

I really did pick up on some things which otherwise folks would just miss... Jayne's reaction to Dobbs, after Kaylee was shot, and again when he's waiting outside the med bay.

Simon calling River a 'dummy', and the resulting hug... so touching. And that's just in the PILOT episode!

Powerful stuff.

I did watch the pilot last night, and yep, it's still the best gorram show in the 'verse.

I will watch "The Train Job" tonight, on a Friday at 7pm (Central), so that's consistent with FOX's evil plan. I'll follow it up with "Bushwhacked," and still have time to watch the return of Haven on Syfy at 9.

Has it really been ten years already... Maaan alive does time fly.

Re-watched it earlier this year with my folks who would visit for dinner. At first it was once every week, by the second disc they were coming over every night :D They loved it! Even though they'd seen it before. I can't think of any other show that my folks have re-watched.... (Fawlty Towers, maybe....)

Mum's favourite character is Jayne and she thinks the crew treat him unfairly, so towards the end of the show she couldn't stand Mal and the way he'd be with Jayne, and my Dad thought Book was the best character and was beside himself with wanting to know more about Books past.

They were both annoyed that it was cancelled. Interestingly they prefer the show to the film, both siting that the film was too bleak.

Ten years... Jeez.

°...Well here I am.°

On Jayne, I might be reading into it more than there is, but I am seeing him as being more misunderstood as well. The incident at the dinner table, which resulted in Mal telling Jayne to leave, gave me pause. Jayne kinda likes Kaylee, whether in a kid-sister sort of way, or in a 'I'll be in my bunk ' way ,but his comments were intended, however crudely put, to be in jest. He wasn't MEANING to be a vulgar lout, it just came out that way. We know Jayne wants to be in control of the ship, but seriously? Does Jayne even think he'd know how to do that, or want that job ? I think he's just ticked at Mal, and it started at the dinner table, where he embarrassed him in front over everyone, Kaylee especially.

Also, something Mal said to Simon, at the very end, finally clicked w/ me. Mal told him " you aint' weak ". Mal says that twice, to emphasize that point. What I find interesting is , later on, Kaylee says the same thing to Simon, after he got slapped down in the bar in 'Jaynetown'. I wonder about that. Now, clearly, Simon is smart and strong willed. He is , however, the smallest male on the ship. And Wash, more a lover than a fighter, clearly is more able bodied than Simon.

So, why the repeated words of assurance to Simon that he ain't weak ?

Hey, sergeant, long time no see.

Nothing compares to Firefly, but that is not to say that there has not been some good TV since. Fringe and Pushing Daisies would top my list. Lost would qualify if they had limited it to three or four seasons and not gone too far off the rails. New Battlestar Galactica was great for about a season and a half, but they ran out of story and decided to change the motivations of the Cylons. Of mainstream stories I have liked Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

Historically, isn't the Friday Night Dead Slot the single most important reason why Firefly was canceled? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_night_death_slot

Monday night is a much better time to watch, especially during that show Murder, He Wrote, starring what's-his-name and Stana Katic. She's the only reason it's still on the air.

Well, FOX screwed up a number of ways, with airing the show on Fridays being the least of the problems. ( As I recall, Miami Vice use to be pretty successful at that time, back in the day. )

But FOX poorly promoted the show, didn't air the pilot to start the series, and had MLB play offs preempt an episode or two. It's no wonder that most fans had no gorram clue what the show was about, or who the characters were, until it was too late.

But as for me, I was just curious if anyone was still carrying on w/ the 10 year anniversary viewings, or if it had died out after the 1st night ?

I know there are those watching on Fridays in the original broadcast order, but that was not my plan, which I outlined in my first post. I almost kept to the plan, except I doubled up on a Sunday since I knew I wouldn't get the chance to watch anything on the Monday after. I also didn't have the time to watch any of the episodes with commentary, but I did watch all the bonus features and the BDM on the 30th. I don't see the sense in watching them out of order.

Just that it was put on hiatus.
