IMPORTANT EDIT- after reading this whole thread, i have decided it best that we don't pit each other against ourselves (especially with the obvious militay knowledge of some of our nominees.) ok, prepare yourselves for the big cliche...*bracing, bracing* i think we should all just consider ourselves lucky to be nominated. i started this thread mostly so i could talk to you all, and i feel i've accomplished that well (good plan.) so, please don't think me a tease or anything...i've just learned to like you all too much to pit everyone against each other. so, if i'm still allowed, can i be a gunhand groupie, hat-harem, and member of any other poster-loving organization out there? if not, i guess that's what i get for going noble.... if people do insist on voting, vote for whoever you want. i'll tally. vote for one person, vote for them all (it is the logical thing to do.) with this amending to the review, i'm considering all nominations votes....unless everyone decides not to vote. then maybe my time would be better spent trying to incite jealously on other threads. anyway, thanks for the times.

it has come to my (rather limited) attention that there are few members of our fair firefly community here who tend to gather themselves somewhat of a following. i've run across mentions of gunhand's groupies and hat-harems on more than one thread and with the popularity of the cast reviews, i thought we might have ourselves a poster review. so far, i think gunhand and jefe the hat (aka badgershat and el jefe magnifico de la thisland brownitopia) have enough popularity to gather votes, and i've noticed that there are a few people who like elwoodmom quite a lot, as well as zoid and delia....of course, i'm probably crushing fragile egos as i go here, forgetting to mention people. so, the plan....tuesday and wednesday will be nomination day and then thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday will be voting days. you can nominate and/or vote whoever you want, based on whatever you want~ if you know them personally, if you think they're very insightful, if they make you fall over laughing....whatever. anyone can feel free to turn down their nomination if they feel uncomfortable (i am here to spread the comfort), but try to remember its all in good fun. so let the games begin! (i've always wanted to say that. )

sidebar~ i'll try to keep up with the noms and the voting up here, but i have to fight for computer time sometimes, so forgive me if i get a little behind.

Well, obviously I nominate Gunhand for the guys...or vote for him if he's already considered nominated...for the girls I nominate/vote for Malicious, because she wants a harem and I feel sorry for her Mal losing. ~snickers~ Or something like that.

Besides that, he's an Air Traffic Controller and anything he can do to keep his sanity is alright with me.

Thank you kindly. Although I feel I'm unworthy -- and doubtless many will agree -- I would never repay a compliment with a snub. But I reckon you're backing the wrong horse for a popularity contest...

Born 6:15PM, 17 July 1958, St. Joseph's Hospital, Houston, Texas. My mom will never forgive me for that... (think middle of summer, pre-air conditioning Texas)

As far as ATC goes, sanity's got nothing to do with it. As a group, you'll never meet a more looney lot than the hundreds of controllers I've known -- and all Type A personalities, to boot. If you're easy-going, well-adjusted and literal-minded, it's probably not the career for you. Or at least, you'll certainly stick out like a sore thumb amongst your peers.

All the controllers I know -- myself included -- like working single-manned, so they can get away from all those other miserable a**holes. ;)

Respectfully,

zoid

Simple. Click on "Home" at the top of the page, then from the FFFn Home page, click on "My Firefly" at the top right. You can edit your data from the resulting page by clicking on "Edit Profile" on the top left frame.

In this way you can enter a permanent -- or as in my case, weekly -- tagline, and other bits you want appended to each post, so you don't have to put them in manually each time (neat, huh?).

You can read a person's bio by clicking on their name at the top of one of their posts. When you do, you'll go to their "Member Profile" page, and on the left hand side you'll see a textbox that allows you to send them an email to the address they used when they registered at FFFn. (NB: I find that sometimes I have to manually re-login, and then reload the target Member Profile page before the "Message Me" textbox will come up. Don't know why.)

Just in case, I'll send you this entire text via FFFn's send message feature to your email (Haken keeps your address secret, so don't sweat), assuming you gave a valid email when you registered.

Hope this helps...

Respectfully,

zoid

CageyBee:

Which one are ya' signed up with? 'O' pay grades, or 'E' pay grades? The answers to those questions are verrry important. Of course, you can always just tell 'em you're gay, or alcoholic if you really want out. Are you at school on ROTC? And, of course, Gunhand failed to mention it, but females that serve in our armed forces always have the option of leaving the military following a pregnancy.

On a side note -- not to hijack the thread or nothing -- could I nominate 'jebbypal', too? She may be young enough to be my daughter, but she's not young enough to be Neroli's (unless she's from one of them states where the term 'virgin' is defined as 'a girl who can outrun all of her brothers'). Besides, jebby was nice to me, so...

Respectfully,

zoid

Oh yes, I second jebbypal's nomination!!!

And can't recall her age...but I do believe she is not young enough to be my daughter. Even if I was from one of those states...LMAO

oh, zoid, i feel so bad...i lied. i didn't sign anything and i'm not in rotc or anything of the like. oddly enough, my health problems keep me from doing so (take that gunhand!), and they aren't even girlie or crazy ones. and no worries about hijacking the thread...i try to do it all the time....luckily, most of the time, i fail dismally.

No problems KGB. I mean hell, when I was your age if someone said,"Hi I'm KGB" I'd have to shoot them. Chalk one up to progress eh?

Hello Zoid...

Nothing to add I just had to use the new Hello Zoid... Hehe.

Well one thing to add, I never thought of the pregnency discharges because the only Love Boat I was on they had me on and off it before I could even finish singing the theme song. The singing is what probably told them to get me off it too. The bastards.

Thank you most kindly for the nomination, sir. I consider it quite the compliment.

I have a question about your newest signature. Didn't Kaylee Tam have SIX children? So who's the father of the other two, or is there no overlap at all?

As far as ATC goes, sanity's got nothing to do with it. As a group, you'll never meet a more looney lot than the hundreds of controllers I've known -- and all Type A personalities, to boot. If you're easy-going, well-adjusted and literal-minded, it's probably not the career for you. Or at least, you'll certainly stick out like a sore thumb amongst your peers.

All the controllers I know -- myself included -- like working single-manned, so they can get away from all those other miserable a**holes. ;)

Gawd, all them ivory towers in one place must be like sleeping with a porcupine.
Sorry, I don't speak Texan very often so I hope you'all forgive me if I get it wrong.

Can't sneak anything past a library artist. I'll only say that it's not a typo or continuity error (kids as continuity errors, hmm, there's one to ponder). As to whom the sire might be, a gentleman never gossips about a lady's personal life, but I've got my suspicions and I've hinted at 'em in the past, so... There's an old saying, down South, "How do you know who your daddy is? 'Cause your mama told you so." Although if we ever get around to having a Firefly 'reality' episode, they could always whip out a DNA expert; y'all let me know how that goes. It'll be the one and only episode of Firefly I'd intentionally miss.

Good work, though, Miss Delia! I was bound and determined not to give you any hints and spoil your fun, and you've justified my faith. Now with regards to the wording of Simon's quote, umm... (aaahhhh, go se! That was a hint, wasn't it!?)

As regards the nomination: c'est mon plaisir, chere amie. Politically correct or not, I consider myself enough of a gentleman to open a door or pull out a chair for a lady. Even the sauciest among the fairer sex here on the General Board (and y'all know who you are) qualifies by my definition: every woman should be treated with respect. (EDIT: Not because they are the weaker sex, but because they are the better sex, the best example of everything good in homo sapiens) I feel certain that I speak for every man here (except for that EDITed part).

When it comes time to vote, I'll only cast one, and I'm leaning heavily toward the person who virtually single-handedly cast off the evil 'real world political' threads from the General Boards. In my mind, she's the greatest hero of CyberThisLand. All the other posters have got a ways to go to catch her, in my estimation (I've already stated that I'm not worthy). If y'all don't know who she is (here I go hinting again), reread the archives and look for "Enough of the politcal (sic) crap" and skip toward the bottom of the page. There, along with the last mad ramblings of the dispossessed, you'll find why I hold her in such high esteem; those ramblings that follow serving as eloquent evidence for my estimation.

Every citizen voter should have a firm grasp of CyberThisLand's history before casting a ballot, n'est-ce pas?

Respectfully,

zoid

JEBBYPAL

Aww, thanks zoid And for the record, although I grew up in a state bordered by Arkansas and Kansas, womenfolk running from their brothers only happened on the fanatical compounds and I most definitely avoided those! No offense intended to the arkies and flatlanders that appreciate firefly and managed to access the internet today

Hmm, I think the nominations have become votes and almost everyone I recognize has already been nommed I think. Ooh, actually can't remember. I nominate ebonezer anyway just in case. And if multiple votes are allowed, vote for zoid, neroli, and cassandrae. If only one, then put me down for neroli so her writer's block will end and we'll all be graced with another Delta Rain installment .

okay, enough procrastinating, back to work for me.

hey, jebbypal, thanks for the nom....but i have a request. can you come back and vote again on a voting day? because otherwise i get confused, and then i tend to fall or otherwise hurt myself, and i hate when that happens. leads to scar comparison contests...and i hate to lose.

and, i think i'm only going to let people vote for one person....so let the inner turmoil begin!

Zoid,

Hmmmm. Now I'm going to have to reread Simon's quote very carefully and try to find some sort of clue in it. Darn it! I knew it wasn't a continuity error -- these are too well thought out for that. I just wasn't sure I was remembering right.

As for the DNA testing, all I know is this. I had class Wednesday nights, so I was forever having to set the timer for Angel during Jerry Springer, which my WB seems to play all day long. Every time I get stuck listening to two minutes of Jerry while I punch in some mysterious sequence of numbers that make the VCR (more often than not) do what I want, Jerry is DNA testing somebody. Where do they find these people?

Thank you for the kind words. You will notice that I'm very carefully not nominating or voting in this thread, because I don't like having to choose among friends. But you would certainly be on the list of people I'd vote for, were I voting.

For the record, I don't consider it at all politically uncorrect to hold a door or pull out a chair for a lady. Telling her not to worry her pretty little head about finaces, 'cause that's what her daddy/husband are for -- that's not politically correct. Holding a door, that's common curtesy. But then, I'm from south of the Mason Dixon line and we've got some old fashioned ideas.

Delia
