Hi all-

I was in Sandy, Oregon today, and they were filming "firefly". You could see the yellow and black signs that lead to a wooded area where they all of the cranes, lights, etc.

I was just curious if anyone knew what they were filming? Is it some other show using the same name?

Thanks.

No, I am definitely not making this up. My wife and I drove down to see where they were filming, but they had security guards so we couldn't see too much. While driving home we looked it up on IMDB, etc. and there is nothing listed for FireFly that is currently filming. I figured I would post and here and see if anyone knew what it was.

I was thinking maybe it is a code name for something else that is being filmed. It just seems odd that they would post the name FireFly if it was truly the series they were starting up again as it would ruin any type of surprise announcement they would be planning.

Hmmm. Wondering if it is this?? Which I still hadn't heard of, but apparently the guy writting the article doesn't know what's going on either...

Considering that you would officially win the internet with a scoop of that magnitude, might I suggest a stroll in the woods with a telephoto lens?

Heh, yeah.

I have been out of the FireFly loop for a while (well, not sure I was ever in it but I enjoyed the series), and figured they were either making a new film, or there was some spin off or something. But, once we started driving home and couldn't find anything on the net, I was thinking I should have it least took some pictures of the yellow and black signs that lead the way to the site where they were filming.

I posted something over on the Sandy Oregon message boards (long shot) to see if anyone could provide more info, but so far nothing...

I am fairly sure it was something else, but odd that they would use the FireFly name.

That's only an hour away from me. In all likelihood its probably an indie film of some kind. But perplexing nonetheless.

I have Kathy Bates on speed dial, mwa ha ha ha (in exaggeratedly evil voice)

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Hmmmmm.....

Update to the article linked says the film "Lost Transmission" has nothing to do w/ Firefly, but rather was one of many shows that inspired it.

Got to say, from looking at the pic for the film, that one guy's coat is kind of a brownish color.

Looking at Google Maps, I think it was at PGE Park:

You turn left at Ten Eyck Rd, right past the 7-11, where the two lanes meet prior to heading to Mt. Hood.

A photo of said signs sure would be nice. Just sayin'.

And how often do movies advertise that they're filming like that ? Don't most BIG time titles try to hide their activity , so stuff like this doesn't 'get out' ? Unless they're TRYING to get attention.

Hope it makes it to the viewable verse, sometime soonish.

Yes, as I mentioned, I should have taken a picture of the signs, but I didn't realize at the time that I should (not until we were driving home and couldn't find anything online about it). However, like I said previously I am guessing it is a different FireFly they were filming. As far as the signs go, they were the typical film arrows pointing to a location (I see them quite a bit due to the fact that they film Leverage and Grimm here).

Here is an example of what they look like:

'Firefly' is a pretty generic name but also a really nice sounding one. So it could be all sorts of things.

Auraptor, big names do hide what they are. Even the smaller shows tend to be quiet about it. Usually when people ask we say we're filming 'a documentary'. The only exception is reality shows, where people in the area need to see signage for us to legally use them in the show. And indie films, where the filming itself is used as marketing. Now that you saw that sign a few people on these forum know about a film called 'Firefly' that they never would have heard of before.

If the series were restarting at all the publicists would probably say something early to gauge the reaction and avoid someone else getting the story (and buzz) before the press release. But it's pretty unlikely that would ever happen. I think the hope should be placed in stories that fall along similar lines and can be meaningful in the same ways for now.

STORYMARK

The Avengers filmed under the title "Group Hug". Batman Begins filmed under "Intimidation Game". That kinda thing happens a lot. Or, it could be a completely unrelated production with a similar name, which possibly includes "Firefly" and they're just using that for short-hand.

ETA: Did a bit of research, there's an indie animated film called called "Fireflies" which was recently completed in Oregon. Perhaps this was a party or something to celebrate it's completion?

Note to anyone - Please pity the poor, poor wittle Rappyboy. He's feeling put upon lately, what with all those facts disagreeing with what he believes.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"
