If you could pick a word or words to finish the sentence that best applies to America today what would it be....

I'm a pessimist when it comes to us, because it seems we're doing more than our fair share of getting things wrong. We sure don't have sea to shining seas anymore, pilgrim feet have trod all over us and are mostly not welcome anymore, our heroes have been forced to do a little too much proving, and China is refining our gold... and that's just according to the lyrics...
From what I see with my own eyes? Our young are addicted to useless technologies and firearms and are more emotionally cut off than ever with very few actual life skills(and judging from recent test scores-very few book skills either), our adults are bored, overweight, on drugs and incompetant, and judging from the auctions I've been to our elderly mindlessly collect junk and end up watching their grandkids because their kids gave up.

Politically, I find it pathetic that we have punished people with pre-existing genetic conditions until NOW, we will probably never see a woman president, finding out how many of our elected officials commit felonies- not to mention how far out of hand all the partisan bickering has gotten, and knowing that what has been allowed to go on with the gas prices in this country... about the ONLY thing I can say is

"We're still flying"

I don't quite know what happened to "America, the Beautiful" or how we got here... but is this it? Is it all downhill from here? Will my grandkids be migrating somewhere else like my ancestors migrated here?

I wonder sometimes....

So, do I have it totally wrong? What HAVE we gotten right that I'm missing?

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I think the only consolation is that no other country is doing anything right either.

But that's talking about the governments. On the personal front, there are probably more people doing good works now than ever before, you just don't read or hear about them much. If you rely on the media for your news, all you get is "If it bleeds, it leads."

ETA: Forgot to finish your sentence. Maybe, "America the ambiguous?"

A laugh first thing in the morning....

It's an interesting concept, you two... We're ALL just multinational corporations that don't have a clear path or clear solutions. Nothing is as cut and dried as it used to be. All of us trying to find our feet in an age where the ground changes by the minute, if not second...

Ambiguous is a good word

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Agreed. While some countries do some things well, no country does everything right. America has it's issues, but greed, big government, big business, and public apathy are just as responsible for the issues as well. If the citizens didn't stand for it, they would never walk all over us to enforce their agenda. Unfortunately we allow distractions to keep us from calling the government and big business on their B.S.

Maybe one day we learn.

Back to the subject, I would end your sentence like this:

"America The Apathetic"

You make a valid point, it is a global phenomenom. We no longer question and put our leaders and elected officials feet to the fire whenever they abuse their power. We have forgotten that we have the power, but it's been systematically removed with surgical-like percision that the subtleness is barely noticeable.

We have been dumbed down, fair and balanced into a catatonic state. We have bought into the hype. It's no longer about Republicans vs. Democrats, not like it used to be. And it's gone global.

We need to let our elected officials know that we are mad as hell and we're not gonna take it anymore, but it must be on a united front - both Dems and Reps, independents too. This country can regain it's inherent goodness and love of freedom, we just need to remember that we are it's greatest strength. Those behind the curtain pulling the levers know this to be true, why else do you think we have been bamboozled.......well, almost.

Don't believe the hype!
