Hi guys! I'm new in the forum and I'm having a bit of a writer's block in this fanfic I'm writing. I've been thinking around the concept of "Indentured man" Inara uses in 1.02 to get Mal and Zoe off the hook and I wanted to check with you if you think it refers to the definition in the link below or if it has more of a sexual connotation. For some reason anything that Inara says to me comes out with a sexual connotation, I dunno. Anyway, thanks and keep flying!

I think it just means Mal is her slave. I don't believe it has anything to do with sex. The signal did a really good segment on slavery in the verse and they touched on this exact exam and went in pretty good detail. I wish I could remember what episode of the podcast it was but I do not.

I don't think it was meant to be sexual at all. Remember we also learn in "Jaynestown" that most of the mudders are indentured and that clearly has no sexual conduction.
