Can I get recommendations from other Browncoats about pieces of music or artists whose work sounds like the soundtrack from Firefly? I love the mix of styles, but I'd like to hear more.

Thanks!

David Goodrich. I posted something about him a while back, but it would probably take too long to track it down so I'll just reiterate (sp?).

David Goodrich is freaking awesome! The moment I heard the music in 'Serenity' when Inara is washing herself, it reminded me so strongly of David's second record, 'Accidentals of the West'. It's such a great record, it's all instrumental.

His webiste is at http://www.davidgoodrich.com . THere, you can d/load MP3s from both of his albums. However, his first album, Failure of the Doping Summit, is very different from 'Accidentals...' . I definitely rec. Accidentals... for 'Firefly'-esque music.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think...

Well everytime I watch Deadwood the opening music always makes me think of Firefly, it has the same sort of Western feel with a bit of Arabic/Indian/Chinese feel in the second half. It's haunting a bit and I really wish I could find it somewhere.

Another song that really fits Firefly for me is "Serenity" (shiny title huh?) by Godsmack. Title aside the into to the song has a very 'Verse feel to it and during the rest of the song the simplicity of the guitar really makes me feel like it's a Firefly song that just missed being in the show. I'd really love to see this song in the BDM, even if it's just for the closing credits or somwhere in it in an instrrumental version.

A lot of the Gypsy Kings songs have a feel to them that sorta fits. I mean somewhere in the 'Verse there has to be at least one rock/mariachi fusion band right?

The whole soundtrack for Ride With the Devil could be used directly for the 'Verse, except maybe the only song off it that was popular which is one by Jewel which has lyrics that are pretty specific to the movie.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters have a bluesy/country feel to them while still staying in the pop realm to an extent. Some of Sister Hazel's work also feels a little firefly-ish to me although it is much more poprockish to an extent.
