I'm thinking about instead of buying a plain ol' boring house.. I might just have someone build the Serenity (Or 'liberty' in my case) for me instead in a 1:1 scale ratio, complete with everything from the show... except maybe a working engine.

Anyone have any thoughts, or how much this would cost?
I think this would be cool as all hell

You could do it for under a million, I would think.

The original set was either 200 or 290 feet long, I forget which. By whatever width and 2 decks high, this would be a pretty large place, square-foot-wise, and would take a pretty large piece of property. Lovely dream, but pretty expensive, even ignoring the building code issues.

Building
Permit

But what an idea!!
We had pipe-dreamed (no intention of doing it) a Firefly resort, with a Serenity HQ building and themed cabins & recreational areas. Staff could have been dressed like cast of various episodes and the film.

ETA: We had someone here who was planning a kitchen remodel which would have been as close to Serenity's galley as he could get it. Not sure if we ever saw any progress reports, or divorce papers being served...

bun

Building permit? I'm planning on buying the plot of land myself..
I would totally go to that resort :3
and.. that sucks for him/her :P

And yeah, just missing the 'verse x)

2 things though... I'll have to find a really good contractor (or the like) to get it as close to the Serenity as i can get it..

and to everyone wanting to live with me, i'll have to meet you in person, get to know you and the like.. Living with complete strangers is kind of sketchy to me :l ... and i totally call Wash and Zoe's room! xD

Here in CA if I want to build anything and not have a big problem now or in future I have to apply to the appropriate jurisdiction for a building permit, have the plans approved, and have inspections to ensure the project follows building codes. Absent a special waiver available under certain circumstances, I can't occupy it without a signoff by an inspector. Ownership of the property doesn't remove the responsibility.
Where are you planning to build?

bun
not applying, LOL...

Somebody in California built the Flintstones house, so I don't see why it couldn't be done with enough money.

If you built Inarra's shuttle you could rent it out as a B&B. I'd pay good money to stay there a night or two.

To be reazonably realistic, youd hav to make it out uv stainless steel.

If you didnt get kraaazy retrofit ideaz for wen sumbudy discoverz antigravity, you coud make most uv it frum 1/16 to 1/8 thick sheet, so it woud only be 10 to 20 million.
