As all know, or are about to find out, Serenity is greenlighted, and well on its way to becomeing our new favoirte movie. My question is, anybody know what happed to the Serenity, the phyiscal "spaceship" that the show was shot in? Is it still siting idle on its soundstage? Did it get taken down? Did it get blown up? Will they have to build a new one? Anybody have any idea?

According to everything that's been said so far, EVERY piece of set from "Firefly" was trashed...

Except a door. And a certain button. Here's hoping they get featured roles!

I hope they can get it as close to exact as possible...who am I kidding I want it exact.

I've spent so much time "in" that ship that if something's changed I'm probably going to pick it up right away and then ponder the whys of it in a setting sort of way as opposed to a "we needed to rebuild the whole gorram thing" way.

I have my toes crossed though.

They should have some of us rabid fans come tour the set to point out any inaccuracies/inconsistencies. I volunteer to go first!!!!!!!

What if they built it better? would that be bad? I keep hearing about people who make bluprints of the ship only to find that it is not quite perfect how the inside lines up with the outside, a slanted halway to the bridge or something? Would it be bad to fix that?

Ya know, it occurs to me that they could account for some mods to the ship by mentioning that a partial refit (ably supervised by the loverly Ms. Frye) could have been financed by proceeds from the successful fencing of the Lassiter. It would be a nice bit of continuity from the show, and plausibly account for any changes which they might decide to make in order to make Serenity look more 'Cinematic.' Also, I just don't see them having the scratch for any significant tinkering (recall how long it took Mal to replace that pesky compression coil...and what it took to light a fire under him...).

Yeah a few corrections of little things from the blueprints would make me happy, like the way the main windows line up with the hallway. That sort of thing wouldn't bother me and I'd welcome.

What I was meaning I guess is if the studio says,"Hey this looks too grungy and lived in, this is space man, make it all shiny!" Without knowing what shiny means. If ya know what I mean.

I could buy some of it being modifications from the Lassiter sale too, I just don't want them going overboard and winding up with the love child of the Enterprise and the ship from 2001.

Oh and I really want to see what's in front of the cockpit consoles down the ladder too. And what's up the ladder at the back of the Passenger Dorm, and what the shower looks like...hell okay I second the tour of the ship, I get to go 2nd. Or we could all go at once with notebooks and pens and drive them really crazy.

Something that has been bugging me for some time about Serenity. There is a large chunk of it missing. On the inside.

The cargo deck is what, 3 stories tall? (say two and a half. The dorm (with the passenger dorm and the sick bay, take up the space behind the cargo bay. The galley apparently sits on top of the cargo bay, above it. (Along with the passage ways from the bridge and the engine rooms) (And if you doubt that the galley sits atop the cargo bay, note Objects in Space, and River's Bat Girl stance)

What is above the sick bay and passenger dorm? The crago bay show at least 2 hatches to this "tween space" (one along the walkway, aft, and one in the middle of the aft wall above the hatch to the passenger area.) But this is a huge chunk of space that we have never seen.

Yes the sets were destroyed, and everything will have to be rebuilt from scratch. Hmm... not sure about lead time, but if they are filming in June, they may have the New Serenity built already.

"Wash, where is my damn spaceship?"

Some of Serenity was 'liberated' from the dumpsters and has been turning up on e-bay. It made me feel very sad to see parts of her being auctioned off. I just hope they went to fellow Browncoats who appreciate what Serenity means to some of us.

America loves a winner!

I wouldn't mind having Wash's pilot chair. Not as "commanding " a seat as Capt. Kirks, but it sure looks more comfortable.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

According to posts by Nathan @ the OB, and an insider who was on the crew that posted at the OB up until the end, the sets were destroyed and thrown in dumpsters.

This info on the new sets comes straight from Joss:

Quote:

Whedon added that the movie will be shot in Los Angeles on all-new sets. "They're a little grander in scale," he said. "They're a little more movie-like. ... Everything outside of Serenity is a place we haven't visited and people we've not seen, but it is the world that was from the show."

I can't believe that they would scrap such an expensive set as the Serenity must surely have been? Fox really do love their rash decisions, don't they? And where exactly do you guys find out these little tidbits of info (I'm new to all this, the show and the site)?

Now, I'm off to poke around on eBay and plead with my bank manager.

It occurs to me that there is a huge amount of open living space aboard the ship, and not a whole lot of machinery. Unless you want to believe that all the plumbing, life support and support machinery is all provided by the little spinny engine in the engine room. Heck, where are the fuel tanks?? Perhaps this stuff accounts for the 'missing space' on Serenity. It would be cool to see a 'mechanical room' in the BDM though, if this is what is up there.

One would hope that any Browncoats who acquired pieces of the set would contact Joss/ME and offer them up for ship reconstruction for the movie...

One would hope Astri, but I doubt that would happen. I know I would be hard pressed to give up such a precious momento myself, but would for the cause.

What is probably there are those facilities of the ship we wouldn't likely see on television...latrines and showers (although a Kaylee shower scene in the BDM would be great! ) along with the laundry, and mechanical stuff like air and water ducts, etc.

Well with the dumpstermania of studios I have a plan, in the unlikely event I win the Powerball or what have you I'm going to build a sound stage and have them build an exact replica of the Serenity interior in it. That way whenever Joss needs to do some more filming for whatever reason, the whole thing's there, not in California but hey Arizona is nicer anyhow.

Plus I can play around in it.
