Some Firefly fans in Northern Nevada are interested in putting together an all-out shindig for the premiere of Serenity in 2005. While our plans are grandiose at the moment -- and will probably be scaled down -- we'd like to lobby to have the actual premiere at a beautiful theater along the Truckee River in Reno. The premiere would be the culmination of a three- or four-day shindig that would include a wide variety of events, from a ball with a charity companion auction to horseback riding in the high desert.

Would anyone be interested in attending such an event? If so (and if you live in either northern Nevada or California), would you be interested in volunteering to help out? The most recent estimate for the Serenity release is early 2005, so we'd need to get to work as soon as possible to get everything into place.

If only someone in a position of power within the studio/distributor might pop in here to see what's going on... Barring that, would anyone have ideas or know how to go about finding the appropriate contact concerning the release?

Let's put together a terrific event and show the "higher powers" the true loyalty and dedication of the Firefly fan base!

I would be interested in going on the condition that the Tolkien Gathering isn't on at the same time. I'm sort of involved with that.

There are a few things I could suggest though. Some things wouldn't have to be organized or dealt with by persons in the area, such as registration. If you do that online via a dedicated website it might be a great thing. You may also consider sponsors. Perhaps contacting the distributor as well as the studio or any of the agencies (actors or otherwise).

If you're intending on some sort of program to provide others, you may want to organize that through a website as well, with a person or two in charge of content etc.

I don't know if you're look at getting name tags etc... but you could have people provide artwork and stuff online as well.

I would also perhaps recommend that people are assigned specific tasks with specific deadlines if need be.

If you do get actors, producers, directors or anyone else affiliated with the film itself, you may want to deligate and/or arrange transportation for them.

Reserving a hotel block for accommodations is also usually a winner. (Realizes she's probably spewing stuff you are all likely to know already)

Are you also planning on some sort of party?

Okay... I could go on forever at this point so I'll drop it... if you want any other suggestions or thoughts, just email me at dpenz2u at yahoo.ca

*best wishes*

I'm not sure what makes Nevada any sort of ideal location, but I'm game. :D I live in California and would probably drive out to NV for such an event... dunno so much about contributing, but I could probably help wrangle the greenhorns if you did a horseback riding expedition. :)

"3 or 4 days" sounds more like you're organizing a Con, culminating a premiere showing of the BDM.

Not that this would be a bad thing ... but it's much more work than just organizing a premiere party would be.

I live in Louisiana, but I could be tempted by something like this.

Hmmmm. You'd have to figure someone's gonna do something like this, might as well be you. A con-style premire with the BDH's I'd fly to Vegas to see that.
