I happened across some information about a new movie coming out in August called Aliens vs Predator, anyone know anything about this? Sounds like it could be good.

The movie "Aliens" is my all time favourite Sci Fi Movie, so more of something same/similar would be welcome. Pulse rifles blazing with flames bursting from the barrel.. exploding Aliens.. more.. more. sry, gettin carried away.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Check this site out:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avp/

I had heard that the movie will be based off of the Dark Horse Comic mini series of the same title as the movie, or off of the video game of the same name.

I will check it out when it comes out. Hope it is not too cheesy.

Dark Horse Comics did do a cpl Aliens vs Predator storylines... but the plot for the movie is not quite the same. The trailers and the online featurettes are quite cool and do contain plot spoilers.

I've been following this movie pretty close since I first heard it was being made almost a year ago. It's being directed by the same guy who did 'Event Horizon' and 'Resident Evil'. Don't know what you all think of those two movies but I kinda liked 'em.

The movie's set in some newly discovered temple in antarctica for some reason. The scientists discover alien eggs, and then just for kicks, the predators who have been using the temple as some sort of ritual right of passage for the last thousand years drop by for a visit. Hilarity ensues.

Despite the strange setting, fans have been assured that there will be plenty of cool alien/ predator death and dismemberment to go around.

I for one am looking forward to it.

Just to throw in what I know about the movie and series in general...here I am.

From what I know, the movie is based in our futre but sometime (assumedly a long time) before Alien (the first for those who can never remember). A group of research scientists headed by eccentric bilionaire Charles "Bishop" Weyland (played by -of course- Lance Henriksen, Bishop from Aliens) finds an ancient e=temple in Antarctica full of Alien eggs. Predsators show up. Things explode.

Mr. Weyland (Henriksen) goes on to co-found Weyland-Yutani Corp. which sends Ripley ship, the Nostromo, to their deaths in the first Alien movie. He is also the model for the Bishop "artificial human" found on the Sulaco in the second movie.

and yes, I have been a fan of this franchise since before I could tie my shoes (seriously).

I'm a fan of the franchise since well the first DH comics and the books and the 3 games (not the last PS2 one but the 3d shooter ones), but I feel that Anderson is not the director for this movie and def. not the writer for it. Fox had a perfect script years ago but never gave it the green light due to numerous reasons including Miss Weavers "It will bring down the franchise" crap (I know Joss was involved with it but the last one was a let down)

Tbh he has a few "big" movies under his belt but the only thing I've seen that was any good was a TV movie/mini (the sighting or something like that it was shown on sky here IIRC) and even that lost it's appeal half way through, RE would have been an escapist movie if u didn't see the mic's so often or half the crew half the time. Event Horizon was good but badly directed gives me a headache watching it and he def. didn't write it.

If I remember rightly the movie is gonna be set now or near future and it's set in Atartica to save cash which I think the entire movie is writen for cheap production with an established fan base heck we used to sell Alien toys to kids who weren't even born at the time that any of the movies were released and it's being aimed at the teenie boppers as well so can anyone say "cash cow" ?

Ah well it's being made and I'll still go see it maybe it'll prove me wrong maybe it won't I'm not a Fox exec so I'll just hate them even more if it is as bad as I fear it will be.

Ps Many really good directors (including Scot and Cameron according to some sources) were turned awy from doing this movie - why if it wasn't money?

I remember reading the comic books. I'll check it out when it comes out. Can't be any cheesier then the last movie in the Matrix series hehe (ducks any flying solid objects thrown by diehard Matrix fans).

I seem to remember that the Predator race ended up helping the humans fight the Aliens. Dunno..been a long time.

I still enjoyed the trailer.

PS.. I heard a frightening rumor that Lucas was going to remake the originally Star Wars. Talk about milking a dead horse hehehe.

Actually, that script did get produced, but, due to the intervention of Hollywood suits, it turned into The Wedding Planner.

I'm confused about the whole Weyland "Bishop" Yutani thing... Didn't Lance Henrikson play the human creator of Bishop at the end of Alien 3?

This movie concept/script/whatever sat around collecting various forms of dust for a LOOOOOOONG time--they actually had the concept for this movie on the drawing boards before the AvsP comics and books were introduced.

I just watched the trailer, and I'm sort of... perplexed... I mean, yeah, it's dark, it's creepy... but what about showing ANY footage? If you recall, the very first trailer for a recent Sci-Fi flick showed creepy non-footage scnes, dark music, scary sound effects, followed by an evil laugh... the movie I'm referring to, of course, is the ever-horrific "Battlefield Earth" which, if you haven't seen it, redefines the term
"really fing awful movie." And, Travolta spent 15 years lobbying to get that piece of made... hhhmmmmm...

I'm not saying THIS is going to suck wind, I'm just not exactly hopeful, is all...

Cross your assorted extremeities.

While the trailers for Alien vs Predator look promising ( ok, few trailers don't , but hey..) I thought Event Horizon was about the worst Sci Fi movie I've ever watched.

If the plot for AvP is as you say it is, I'm thinking it'll work.

I remember him showing up at the end, but it's been a while since I've seen 3. Since it was the corporation just trying to mess with Ripley, he could have been another android and was just saying he was human. Of course, according to the Internet Movie Database ( www.us.imdb.com), to overcome Ripley's death for Alien Resurrection some writers wanted the third film to have just been all a dream.

I think I'll check the movie though.

There is a web trailer that has more movie footage than the theatrical trailer listed on IMDB. the AVP official site has both trailers if you want to take a look.

The Bishop in Alien^3 leaks white fluid from his forehead just before Ripley jumps into the furnace. He claimed to be human, but it was a W-Y ploy to gain her trust.

So Lance Hendrickson plays the original Weyland... what happened to the news/rumors that Peter Weller was playing Yutani?

Hate to go against you on this one, but here goes.

If you watch the Special Edition of Alien 3 they put a little more footage in to show you that he was, in fact, human. His ear's hangin' off, there's blood everywhere, and he's yelling "I'm not an android." Sorry.

I've been waiting for this movie ever since I saw the Alien skull in the Predator trophy room in Predator 2. Aliens is one of my all time favorite movies. I actually saw Aliens on video the same day I went to the movie theater to see Predator. It was a grand day indeed for my life-long movie watching career! Alas, the "Alien" franchise has gone downhill since. No disrespect to Joss Whedon, I think he did the best he could with what he had to work with after Alien 3. The franchise just peaked at Aliens. I'll go see the movie, because I'm a rabid fan and I know that's who the studios are targeting, but I'll go in skeptical. Anybody remember the trailer for Alien 3? It showed a lot of promise (didn't mention a thing about killing off Hicks and Newt), but came up about a mile away on delivery. I've read the story premise, and it sounds interesting, but I just don't think it'll deliver if I get my hopes up for what I think would be the best AvP movie. Kind of like Freddy vs. Jason. I went in expecting crap, but was pleasantly surprised. Hey, be nice. I thought it was cool. If anything, just from a "my generation's ultimate fantasy 'vs.' match" point of view. And that's how I'll go into AvP. If it's more, then I'll go home and have pleasant dreams and then think of nothing else at work all the next day. If it's not, then I'll curse Fox yet again (and who here hasn't done that) and brood about the fall of modern pop' culture. But I won't be surprised.

Here's to hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

And the special edition would be on the quadrilogy dvd set? How can I go by that when I haven't seen that version... I can only go by what I've seen of the theatrical version of Alien^3...

Oh I didn't take it that way. Besides I'm flame retardant.

Like shows on cable tv versus network tv... a majority may have seen the theatrical version and fewer the Special Edition/directors cut. The problem is which is canonical. The take on it by the makers of AvP is that Bishop II in Alien^3 was an android based on the likeness of Charles Bishop Weyland.
