Nothing and Kaylee's doing fine. She went to see a specialist who basically said "keep up the good work". How "special". She's gotten in the habit of sleeping on my pillow during the day. Kinda odd but also pretty cute.

I've found that posting in these imponderable threads is a bit discouraging because they're basically just for MSA and Zeke, they don't notice when I post and they're the main people who post in them, so that may be why they haven't been going on lately, if the person who starts them is on vacation. Just sayin.

That is an interesting point of view since I and one other actually created this thread. We created it to be a place where those question we had always had about the other sex could be answered in a kind environment. Because of that, the people who frequented this thread became quite close. Perhaps it is the nature of the things you are saying? Are you asking questions or simply agreeing with what has already been said. Either way if you feel you are being slighted in a discussion speak up. Don't sit back and feel it is only for MSA or Zeek, because it is really just for me. It is all just about me.

I remember being in Australia & being 16 hours ahead of the East Coast, getting online in the daytime & spending half an hour reading all the posts which went up while I slept! Those days are long... long gone - but fireflyfans is still a special place & I still love visiting! I must pop in more often!

Hi Riona! I'm Magda! I now live just 5 hours in the future in London & I love it!

I have an "impoderable" of sorts... my cousin recently asked people what were their favourite words... I put forward serendipity, lascivious & onomatopea (not sure if that's how you spell it!)

Anyone got more favourites?

Strangely I do so love the word felicitations

As for sex- so who is getting some?? LOL kidding

OK here's a vaguely sex related question- Do you think it's wildly inappropriate for a high school year book to have a category in awards for cutest mom and baby( referring to the girls who got pregnant that school year)>?

Also- I'm thinking of showing LOTR Two Towers as part of my fairy tale unit ( kids have to identify essential elements of a fairy tale then, using those determine whether or not a movie fits those criteria and write an essay persuading others of their opinion)
Would you object to a high school senior ( 18 yrs olds ) seeing it?

What's objectionable about The Two Towers?

Yeah I don't think a yearbook should be celebrating teen parenthood exactly. Something just doesn't seem right about that.

OK... I think it's nice to embrace those teen mother's who work hard to stay at school & complete their studies, but cutest baby/mother is not something to do with achievement, it reinforces the notion of "beauty" being a way to "fame" or "achievement" & it concerns me that there is a culture where there are enough teen moms to compete in such a competition... definitely not appropriate in my opinion!

Secondly - I would definitely go for it with showing The Two Towers... great choice! I can think of few films which would be open to so much variance in opion about "fairy Tale or not.." & as you say the students are old enough to consent themselves... what are you thinking might cause objection in the film (it's at least 3 years since I last watched it)

Also... I am not getting any sex... 17 months & counting..

Ahh, I miss posting on boards. More than 140 characters and only the folks here see it. Not my Mom. LOL ( Facebook reference. )

I totally agree with Magda about teen moms and babies in the yearbook. Encouraging more of the "see me", "beauty only" culture while in high school just adds to the problem, doesn't encourage a correction of such behaviour. There's got to be a better way to recognize teen moms who stay in school and encourage them to go on with their studies in college. :)

Sex? Is it possible to get enough of that?

I'm interested to hear what could possibly be objectionable in LoTR as well.
I think it's an excellent choice for your assignment. :)

A MSA a chara,
I'm doing allright, thanks for asking. Did you have a nice vacation? I hope you went somewhere nice and had fun.

I didn't know that Imponderables was for opposite sex questions, where do I begin on that one, :)

I guess I thought it was just for you and Zeke since you're the ones I see post here, its sad that were lots of folk and now there are less, but hey we've got a few here now haven't we.

I agree with everyone about the year book, girls do have babies younger than they ought sometimes, but I don't think we need to encourage it, plus you'd be surprised how many silly girls in earlier years at school would look at that and hope to be the one chosen in a few years, sounds silly but some girls are that way. So I'd say leave off on that.

As for The Two Towers, I think that would be a fine thing to show, 17 and 18 year olds are old enough to watch. Now if you had 11 year olds you might have to send home a waver, but these students are grown or nearly grown depending, so it should be fine and lots of them will enjoy it.

Hi Magda, so you used to live in Australia but now you live in England? Do you like the change or do you miss Australia.

MsA -- of course things went silent. We've all been pondering things...(e.g. "I need to get a job..." "Why the gorramn does everyone keep asking me what I like to do? I have no clue...." etc.)

Because FMF said so...I wanna know, who the pukin'ells is trying to send a FORSAKEN to hell? Can we torment the phule into their own living one right now, please?

Magda: favorite words? (for what it means) I like omiyage, nostalgia, and "pay day". For how a word sounds? I'll have to get back to you on that.

MsA: What is this "sex" thing you speak of?
As for the LotR Two Towers -- if they're old enough to sign for themselves, then it should be okay...I don't remember it being overly graphically bloody or anything.
As for the "cutest mother and baby" section in a yearbook? Yes. I think it's tasteless for the reasons previously stated, and sexist since there's nothing for "father and baby" section.

FollowMal: *squee*

Traveler and NVG: cold showers and frozen ice cubes would probably help you with your problem.

Riona: I'm going to follow "Thumper's mom's rule" right now...I'm pretty sure what was written wasn't meant in the way I read it, so *nods in Riona's direction*

I don't think I've wandered in here before, mostly because I've been doing my pondering in the pub. (Okay and at my desk in front of books I'm supposed to be reading..)

@Riona: So bring a friend or thirty! This seems like a very welcoming place!

MsA: I think LOTR- yes, "cutest"- no.
There is nothing objectionable in LOTR other than some violence and elf-on-dwarf-on-Hobbit action (oh wait, that was the slashfic) 'scuse me: elf-on-human steaminess. Of course you could end up with parents screaming "satanic film with devils" which would make for a lot of kids trying to transfer into your class.

"Cutest" not only leaves room for highly biased interpretation, but is also like saying "you fucked up, well done!" and might backfire completely if they're trying to turn it into a "wall of shame". (Which would also be inappropriate.) How about all the new moms get a page headed "Determined to finish school"? Or if there's any of them who are college bound "Determined to succeed" or "Most likely to NOT be on Public assistance in 5 years"? Good for them that they're not dropping out, but let's not turn it into something to shoot for.

I understand that there are ethnicities in the US who view being a mother by the time you're 18 almost mandatory, and I do not want to slam on someone's tradition and outlook but it really doesn't work as well here as it does back in the old country.

Wow, I got all long winded on that one didn't I? Hazards of the job. Which I'm not doing. Okay, hazards of being a pompous gasbag.

Depends on the fake boobs. They can be exaggerated and ridiculous or they can be awesome. I'm only going on appearance though as I really really doubt I've ever been with someone with fake boobs.

Even then it depends on the guy. I don't think the over sized ones look good, but there are a lot of guys who are into that.

Personally I'm not into boobs, although I have seen a couple of sets that made even me think "damn, nice tits!".
I've seen women the "boob fairy" missed, I've seen women after mastectomies, I've seen women after reconstructive surgery for mastectomies, I've seen women who always had something in their lap they were so heavy-chested. And when I say heavy, I mean HEAVY. Hauling the girls around like a set of toddlers and dragging your spine out of alignment heavy. Back pain= not fun. I've had friends you couldn't really hug because you couldn't reach around them all the way. I've seen young women with perky tits, I've seen old women who were wrinkled and saggy and every baby-chewed stage in between. Their beauty came from other things.

So when you say "reduction surgery" I say "go for it and good luck". Also: perky DD melons on a 80 year-old just look odd so make sure your surgeon does a nice job. (Is there such a thing as "age appropriate" knockers?)

So far as frozen things go: I think we'll survive. I drove half an hour one way this morning to repurchase the dry goods, which I usually only have to do once a year, and I'm "50lb bag of bread flour" enabled again. Plus they had whole wheat in stock again so I got a 25lb bag of that too.

I will say that when you're staring at a good inch of water/juice/whatever at the bottom of the chest freezer, and the bottom falls out of the paper bag of 10lbs of thick cut oats when you go to lift it, and you discover that they're very absorbent once you stop crying, and that scooping out soggy oats is the highlight of your day.. you might need a hug. Or a beer.

Are we talkin' tangible or intangible here. I've heard what fake raspberry flavoring is made out of but it still tastes of raspberry and I can touch it. How about the aspects of proportion, feel, and shape? Counterfeit 100 dollar bills spend the same (if you can get away with it) but they don't burn right to keep you warm and can't make good toilet paper. For me, it's all good. Boobs are nice (except when sent via joke email at work and worse when the massage features a he/she/it). But then again I am just a womanizer and former BCMW.

I heard a comedy routine once where the comedian talked about dating a girl who said she had fake boobs. He was just like "that's cool" then he said the went to have sex and he found out "fake" meant padded insert things. He was like "whoa whoa whoa that is false advertising. That's not fake that's BS!" Or something along those lines. I think we should clarify that fake means implants.

Definitely ridiculous. Any cancer should be covered regardless of gender. That's just beyond stupid.

Did anybody hear about the guy who had his penis amputated because they found cancer while giving him a circumcision? Saw something about that lawsuit. I know it's awful but that one is just hilarious to me. First off did they have him completely knocked out or something for a freaking circumcision? I mean the lawsuit is because he didn't consent to it. They couldn't have just asked? Second, assuming he was knocked out how do you break that one to a guy when he comes to? "Well you see...there was a slight complication. We had to take off a little more than expected. Actually when I say more I really mean all. *runs away*"

I didn't realize that if one got a reduction one had to have artificial ones put in. It sounds like your body is suffering for having the natural ones, too big for your frame etc. so it sounds like this is the best option, I don't reckon your husband will mind and I doubt most men would mind if they knew it was something that had to be done.

Now when my dad and I watch Survivor (yes we love that show) he always tries to figure out who has fake boobs and who has real, he says when they lay down on their backs in their swimsuits its a dead giveaway. I would never choose to get artificial ones unless I needed to, like in the situation described above or breast cancer or what have you. I think that you're making the right choice for your body.

I hadn't even thought of that... young girls are so impressionable - but I have seen a few documentaries on BBC TV where young girls who are pregnant have older sisters who also had babies in their teens & say things like, "I am so glad I'm having a baby - I've wanted one since my big sister had one..." like they are dolls or something. We need to break this culture as it's damaging on the young bodies, difficult on the young mothers & doesn't give a child the start in life they need... I am not saying all teen mothers are 'bad' or even 'poor' mothers, but it is definitely not ideal & will lead to more & more problems in our society! I was well into my 20s when I realised how right my parents were about certain things - Hey! I still keep realising things, now! - so how can such a young person be able to aply the lessons they've learned as adults when they are not really adults themselve yet?

Li'l sis! I had no idea you were contemplating a breast reduction, & I completely understand... mine are currently 40F so they do cause upper back, neck & shoulder pain, possibly contribute to my frequent headaches & are generally uncomfortable... my ex used to say that breast reductions were a terrible idea - he loved nothing more than big, pendulous ones... *sigh* I would seriously consider it one day... I understand reductions better than enlargements... I mean I do understand that some women have self esteem issues which might be helped by having larger breasts, but the discomfort of large ones is physical, not emotional or mental (although they can contribute to those issues, too...) I think you would look just as gorgeous as you do now!

Once couples move in together every night is date night. It's like why there's a father's and mother's day but no kid's day.

Oh, Zeek, in a perfect world... that would be true.

Add kids and such.... not so much.

I am a firm believer in the need for date nights. Usually WITH the significant other. But sometimes, a solo run IS necessary. If only to allow some of the angst that might build up (speaking only to what I have experienced - not assuming everyone's life is like mine) to melt away.

BUT... Date nights together? Absolutely! Kids should be left with a babysitter, or else it is NOT a date night.

Just my 2 cents.

Sadly we are babysitter-less and therefore have date night about once every 5 or so months when we visit my parents...kinda hoping to have a babysitter within the next year. I am just reluctant to allow Johnny to be babysat until he's old enough and articulate enough to say something if he's being mistreated.
I mean obviously we'd pick a well screened awesome person that I'd interview several times, but still....

HUGS Magda

Ok Next ponder topic....

So do you think that couples should have a date night?????

Steg!! I am so glad you popped in - looking forward to hearing some pondering from you!!

Li'l sis! HUGS right back at you! Also, I do indeed think couples need date nights! I am assuming you mean couples who now live together/are married? Coz couples who are dating... well, I guess they, you know... date! I know people who deliberately put date nights on the calender & book a regular babysitter so they make that commitment! (& I love them for it!! A little extra money for me!) but I also know folk who have done relationship courses & communication courses & they say their marriages are so much stronger for having a regular date night! Life is so busy, without taking time out to deliberately focus on one another & actually communicate, people can find themselves drifting or assuming their partner knows what their opnion of current events, concerns, work-place issues are... people so often forget to maintain romance in a relationship that has become "comfortable", & comfortable is lovely, but showing appreciation & sharing your inner thoughts is very important too... It's amazing how you can sleep with someone, see them naked every day & never, really, communicate about the important things which are consuming your throughts...

Mind you - I am still single, so what would I know?

Aw Magda! Missed chatting with you, Ma'am!

Sadly, MsA, my wife and I are in the same boat. Even though she has a brother and sister-in-law around locally, their schedules are so hectic we rarely are able to coordinate. So we wait until her parents come over from Cali and go out then. We did recently find a friend's daughter who is willing (and capable) to watch Maddox, but then it's all about getting the funds together to adequately conpensate her for her time (as if spending time with Maddox wasn't good enough, we realize you can't spend cuddly cuteness everywhere).

But yes, date nights are a must.

And I agree, Magda is very wise and always provides sage advice!

Date nights are a good thing, it gives the couple a chance to spend time just with each other, this is especially good if there are children, because raising kids gets so hectic and couples find themselves lacking time to focus on the relationship with each other. My best friend and her husband (childless so far) do date night every Sat. They take turns choosing the resturant and enjoy it a lot, its a break from the regular work schedule etc. As much as I dislike her husband I think date nights are great for them and pretty much any other couple. My mother and her husband have them each Tue.

Doesn't mean they're finding quality boyfriends and husbands. There are lots of single people out there who aren't very good catches. If these women have no standards then that could by why they find it easy to find dates.

Crap Zeke, that's scary! I hope you can find a way to get rid of them ASAP.

I'm just not what men want. I think I'm pretty and all, I have confidence in myself, maybe that's what scares them?

Zeek _ I do so love you... I shall be hearing the words "conga line of evil" every time I make the students line up:)

Stego- oooh awesome. I'd so love to find someone, but I'm just overprotective enough to have all kinds of trouble finding someone I'd willingly allow unsupervised access to my son.

Riona- see your problem is, you have high standards... you want a smart guy who is nice and decent:)
No seriously... You just need to find a better dating pool. I'm sure there are loads of browncoat guys out there who'd be thrilled to date a smart, fun, awesome woman like you:)

OK my feet hurt and I'm going home...

And this.

There is someone for everyone out there times three. If you're not finding what you want, leave your comfort zone and you will. That's a promise.
(Just make sure you get your guarantees in writing up front. That way you don't end up with a bait-n-switch. Hopefully.)

Thanks MSA, every once in a while I post on craigslist and get a date, but that's as far as it ever goes. Oh well. Its not like I never go anywhere or do anything, I do lots of things, I just never meet anyone eligible who will talk to me. I guess the other thing is that meeting a man isn't my top priority in life. I'd like to but I'm not desperate, dating takes up lots of time after all.
