Would all our lovely Browncoats in the bits of Britain currently experiencing unrest kindly check in with us here so we know you're all right? If you're able. Thanks ever so much!

I know that Magdalena has said she's fine for now, though the rioting is getting uncomfortably close and she can smell smoke.

WISHI WILL HANDLE THIS!!
*runs away and comes back with a truckload of video game consoles and various electronic paraphenalia...

See, all better... We've managed to castrate our males between the ages of 12-32 with Apathy Machines...They'd have to put something down to be able to break a store window or two...

All you need is to give them away and they'll go home and sit until their brains are a great pile of violent mush...It worked here. Our gov't gave away so much unauthorized money that our children's children's children will be broke and unable to afford healthcare or gas and none of ours care..... Somebody gets shot there and towns burn down...

Just a fun sarcastic jaded rant ...I really do hope y'all are OK!

Also, I think your government should embrace banishments again...Maybe not to Austrailia 'cause I like the place, but an island or desert in the middle of nowhere sounds good...let the brats find out what it's like to work for something! And then when they do manage to build a hut go in and knock it down

Also, wondering if England's little experiment into a drug that would pacify the population has gone horribly, horribly wrong.

REAVERS! THEY MADE THEM!!!

You know Wish there is indeed a thread in RWED about this situation, perhaps you'd like to post there with your comments. I think Stinky Rose meant this thread to be for folk over there to check in and just let everyone know if they're allright and stuff. Obviously you have the right to post where you want but the RWED thread seems a more logical place to put your feelings down on proverbial paper.

Yes, thank you.. that had rather been my intention. "Sound off" as in taking attendance, rather than "express your opinion". Although, if anyone who's actually going through this feels so moved they're more than welcome to voice their impressions and feelings.

I've been trying to email Aliasse, some of you might remember her Firefly stories.

I still haven't heard from her, I hope she's okay. I'll post here as soon as I hear anything.

I was just foolin around people...didn't know that weren't ALLOWED here anymore.

RWED is for screaming and namecalling...I'm more about witty banter. It's all I got. And I'm not keeping anyone from posting anything they darn well please. AND I was keeping it at the top of the list...which if it ain't posted at in here in a day or two it drops to oblivion....

WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THE CENSORING IN HERE? If it ain't what you wanna hear, you all tell people where ta go now, huh?

Sorry idiots are a burnin your country down... I can't do anything about it but provide comic relief! I also laugh at funerals....

Let's clarify, shall we?

A) Fooling around is fine. It is usually encouraged. To a point.

B) I think your intended tone did not come across as posted.
B1) The thread will remain at the top of the list or not on its own, and I was planning on making sure it stayed in the top 100 for a few days to give people a chance to find it and let us know they were all right. But thank you for your efforts regardless. We can take it from here.

Nobody's censoring you or telling you that you can't post in this thread. They were telling you that you had misconstrued the purpose and gently hinting that your comments are, at present, shall we say possibly a little insensitive?

D) The part after ? Case in point. Neither comic nor relief in this specific instance. Another thread at another time it might be hysterical to others. Here and now..not so much.
If someone is living through a riot, and is able to check in here to contact their friends, and the first thing they see is someone mocking them it is not going to encourage them to post a message, or return to the site.

I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't post whatever comments you like, but it would be nice if you would take a moment to think about whether it's being considerate or if you think it should go somewhere else where it will be received in the spirit in which you wrote it.

I am saying please be gentle with others when they are living in fear and danger.

Someone else tried to say that a bit more gently than I just did, and I believe you misconstrued their intent. That is all.

BTW: If you find you get comments like this frequently you might want to have someone critique your writing style to help ensure you are coming across to others as you had meant to.

Now then, is there anyone in here who is in an affected area and would like to let us know they're alive and well?

As we hope is the case?

Wish a chara, I wasn't trying to be mean, just thinking that Stinky had other more benign and ... caring intentions for this thread. Thanks Stinky, I think its a good idea. Hopefully Byte's friend is allright, she posts here from time to time so either she herself or Byte will tell us if she's okay.

I'm not gonna bother to argue the points...sleep sounds better...

Still...
If you actually do find a person or two to come in here and post on a TV show fansite especially during the middle of a riot, I'd be SHOCKED! There's only been about a half-dozen of ya post at this place in 10 years anyhoo...

What I find so ironic is I saw this coming years ago, and I don't even live there...

I'm fine. the closest riots [so far] were in Bristol 25 miles away. My son in Liverpool saw some cars set alight near the end of his road and was staying with a friend in the 'burbs last night for safety.

I too live outside the affected areas. The closest one to me is Leicester which is about five miles away. The city centre had some trouble yesterday, mainly looting and vandalism, but nothing on the scale of other areas.

I hope you hear from your friend soon and that they are okay.

We had some trouble here in Leicester last night, but not as bad as other cities.
Leics police are sending more in tonight just in case it happens again, but I'm okay.

Just annoyed that the dumb frakkers are starting it up here too

IMNOTHERE

Some attacks on police stations in Nottingham (unusual that - elsewhere they've been going for the shopping areas) but there's not a sign outside of those areas. Its certainly serious, and terrifying for the people in the areas involved, but its not the apocalypse you might gather from the media.

I think there were three deaths in Manchester, which is terrible, and a couple of muggings but apart from that, the main "victims" seems to have been buildings.

I hope the news of the spontaneous clean-up has been making it out of the UK, too:

Glad you guys are okay and helping clean up the mess. I didn't realize that it had spread to other places besides the London area, I guess I haven't paid as much attention as I should have.

Aliasse says she's okay, so we have another browncoat checking in.

The whole thing is just sad. The circumstances that prompted the riots, the living conditions of many of the people who are rioting, the death of people who are innocent or just doing their jobs.

This will have some long term impacts. Probably many of the rioters are really just making things worse for themselves long term, and this looks like some kind of schism in the nation of the UK itself.

MAGDALENA

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

Hi all! Monday night was rather scary for me - as I live a short walk from Clapham Junction. We had the helicopter hovering overhead for hours & I could see the glow (& smell the smoke) of the fancy dress shop which was torched (& Gorramn those looters, coz that's where I get some of my items for costumes!)

Most, if not all, of my local shops were damaged to some degree - my bank was broken into & they destroyed a couple of ATMs attempting (unsuccesfully) to steal cash. Mostly the shops that sell sports wear & electrical items were badly looted, others were broken into & the contents of their registers stolen, but every shop, whether lucrative or not, had it's windows smashed.

The next day everything was closed off until 1pm when a veritable army of locals converged on the area with gloves, brooms, rubbish bags, dust pans & every imaginable clean-up item in their grasp & the clean-up began in earnest... Everything closed at 3pm, however, including most petrol stations which was a problem for us as we were driving from London to Chamonix in the French Alps! Thankfully we're not only far from the 'maddening crowds', but it seems that things have settled, for now, in London... I am still praying for everyone effected!

My heart was breaking on Monday night - but my heart grew 2 sizes when I saw the community spirit as it converged on the affected areas! I am proud to call myself a Londoner these days!
