USA Today has a section "On Why These Shows were Cancelled?" on their website. It's a photo gallery of past shows. Guess what show was on their list????

Check it out:

America loves a winner!

Ummm... lemmie guess. Century City?

Seriously, I checked out the list and had forgotten some really good ones, while a couple I didn't even know had been cancelled - Boston Public. I don't watch much TV anymore, not since the 1-2 punch of Firefly and John Doe were canned.

Rare is it that a show comes to a 'natural' end, but too many good ones are cancelled before their time, while many MANY more are left on the air for no particular reason.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

I wondered why i hadn't seen any commercials for Boston Public in a long while! They didn't even give it a finale! Hasn't that show been on for like 3 years? Don't you think they would have at least die with some dignity? damn FOX

this is further proof that nothing can last in that bloody Friday night death slot! Boston Public was doing well on Monday nights, then they moved it to Friday's and it flopped, hell, i couldn't even watch it any more because i was never home

The Comment about Firefly was pretty stupid though "...It was very funny and clever, and it was getting pretty interesting when they canceled it." What does she mean it was GETTING interesting?! It was interesting from the first big damn episode

Wow. Someone besides me recognizes the greatness that was "Nowhere Man"...it's cancelation was a travesty second only to Firefly.

Also have to agree about Sports Night which was really good.

someone should have spoken up for "Harsh Relm" though...

"Why we still discussin' this?"

The only two on there I watched much really were Firefly (but of course) and The Job, the rest of them...not so much.

Well MST2K but it had a good healthy run behind it, not a partial season.

A few I would have added would have been:

John Doe, now that was a nifty show.

Space: Above and Beyond, another nifty show, plus it was the Corps. Marines in spaaaace! Marines in space are so cool that you actually believe they make booms when they blow shit up...in space.

and

Brisco County, Jr., the people that cancelled this need to go to the Special Hell right along with the guys that cancelled Firefly.

I'm not too worried on that score though, I have the feelin' we'll rise again.

Pain is scary...

Thanks for sharing this story! I am glad to see Firefly on #5.

I was also pleased that someone remembered "Profit." Damn that was a clever show. It was my first experience with the pain of FOX's merciless ax.

I had forgotten about Profit and a couple others until I saw them on this list. Some I haven't heard about but think I'll check out.

Also, Tim's Wonderfalls mentioned at #20 with the comment that it will probably be replaced with another "reality" show. It's a sick sad world...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Appears they've canceled the show and we're still here. What does that make us?"
"Big damn junkies, Sir!"
"Ain't we just."
Yay! Someone else remembers Cupid! The good one, not the reality show dreck.
Though, predictably, no-one probably even noticed Veritas existed.
That's one of the two reality shows I might actually tune in to.
(for those who don't get it, SickSadWorld was a "background" news-of-the-wierd type show in MTV's Daria.)
Dittos on Brisco County and that reminds me of another nifty little show that didn't get a chance (UPN has as bad a record on these as Fox) called "Legend"
