May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Good news indeed. Let's hope it holds that top spot awhile, and sells a bunch of DVD sets.

Someone here recently posted a thread that the British needed to purge themselves for allowing reality TV to thrive, I think they've done just that.

Blake's 7 is an amazing show too, which I would recommend to anyone who likes Firefly. The basic premise is sort of similar - a small group of criminals/revolutionaries in a ship, fighting against a totalitarian government. Jayne's line "I was aiming for his head" is actually a quote from Avon Blake's 7. (Not sure if it was an intentional homage, but Joss Whedon has mentioned that he watched the show while he lived in England.)

NUmber 1 is pretty amazing, especially as they are charging so much for it!

Well done us - and I hope everyone as a great weekend with their shiny R2 DVDs :)

I got mine from Play.com for £26.99 - not the cheapest but they're good and reliable. The R2 box is a bit of a weird design and the discs do rattle about a lot but it was worth every penny for the Serenity commentary alone

R2 arrived this morning yippee! Only 24.99GBP from amazon. Different packaging but I don't think there's any different content at all. The pictures on the cases of the US version have been put into a booklet, and it's a single case with different "pages" (reminds me of an optical fibre handling system, sad person that I am).

Glad to know there's another fireflyfan in Ipswich, I was starting to wonder if there was only me in East Anglia :-)

Does anyone know how/if the the UK release differs from the US release? I've got 2 region 1 box sets already, and as much as I love the show, there are about a million things that I could more worthily spend my money on than yet another dvd set ;)

Time to provoke all the converts I've made into buying their own copies!

Being an avid viewer of both Buffy and Angel I'm quite surprised I never caught Firefly when it initially aired here in the UK. That aside I don't even recall which sky channel it was on. Could anyone clarify this for me?

Anyway, what with Buffy finished now and Angel's departure very shortly I have been itching for new Joss material (I know it's not new, but it was for me,) so I impulse bought the Boxset from HMV on Monday. All I can say is wow! That being said I am very disappointed in myself for not jumping onto this show back when it needed all the fan support. Nonetheless, I'm very excited about 'Serenity' and can't wait to get caught up in the pre-release buzz.

I don't think it was broadcast on Sky... I seem to remember it was on the SciFi channel.

But I may be misrememberin'

No, you aren't misremembering.

It was shown on Scifi in the UK. (That's why I didn't get to see it til the dvd's came out)

The final episode of Blake's 7 makes me cringe in horror, but in the good way! In my opinion, no show has yet topped the finale - I was hoping Buffy would do it, but it didn't quite overcome it. We'll see in a few weeks how Angel does...!

Actually, based on what I've read, there are a few differences. Namely, it seems the subtitles were done by a different person/company, since instead of [speaking chinese] on the R1 sets, it says [galactic language] on the R2 sets. Also, the R2 sets apparently have all the commentaries subtitled, as well some of the other extra features. *jealous*

Actually got around to watching the R2 set a bit yesterday and it does seem to be a better picture, some details are clearer. Also sometimes with the R1 DVDs we get a smaller picture with a black bottom border(this is well known apparently something to do with the conversion).

Strangely the sound also seems a bit better. Maybe I'm just justifying having the two sets to myself, but it was worth it!

My family won't let me watch the commentaries very often so can't comment on those yet.
