Ok, this is weird. Here's a news blurb about some animators who got laid off by Disney and started Project Firefly.

Ex-Disney Animators Mortgage Homes To Set Up Studio
http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2004-04-20#2

"Another group of animators who were laid off at Disney's Florida animation studio in January have opened a studio of their own. Five animators...announced Monday that they had mortgaged their homes in order to set up their own studio called Project Firefly at the Universal Studios theme park in Orlando."

Is Project Firefly just a coincidence? Or is this somehow related to the Firefly movie? Hmmmmm.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Seems a little too coincidental to me 'Tash. Project Firefly being done at Universal Studios? Could be something Universal is planning to help generate interest in the BDM. A ride on Serenity perhaps? I would make the trip just to see it if it is related to our Firefly.

I hope you're right! A Firefly ride? But these are animators, will we see cartoon reavers?

Okay, another mention I found on Project Firefly:

http://www.animationartist.com/2004/03_mar/news/zsmk082a.htm

From the article:

"...Project Firefly is a full service animation studio providing 2D and 3D animation and artwork for theatrical and video releases, television series, commercials, interactive/internet media, children’s books and educational films.

For more information, contact Project Firefly Animation Studios at 407.224.6730 or 800.264.0266"

Someone gutsier than me best call!

Not sure what Animation Artist really is - they say they're a Digital Media Net community about animation news, tutorials, etc.

Based on this press release, it sounds like they're just an animation studio, but we'll see - I'll hope for the best!

I'd heard about animators who were laid off and decided to open their own studio that would be heavy on 2d animation - but they where calling themselves Legacy animation.

Could it be the same guys with a different name?

I called the number and was told that they had no knowledge of joss whedon's firefly or if they were related to universal's purchase of it. Also I was told that they would get back to me though. They have my name and number.

Inara: Who's winning?
Simon: I can't really tell, they don't seem to be playing by any civilized rules that I know.

Man! A Firefly ride at universal??! That would be AMAZING! Imagine it, the actual ride is all the way in the front of the cockpit, like that spot which they NEVER use on the show. To get there, youwalk through a replica of the ship! The group waiting to go next enters through the cargo area and waits there, and then up the catwalk, take a quick peak inside Inara's shuttle, then go upstairs to the cockpit for the show! After that, instead of going back the same way, you walk out passed the crew quarters, through the dining room/kitchen, down the corridor towards the engine room, turn left and go down the stairs, passed the living area and infirmary and voila! back in the cargo bay!!!

OMG! UNIVERSAL! MAKE A RIDE PLZ PLZ PLZ

Ain't. We. Just.

Ain't no power in the 'verse can stop us... Thank you for calling! Nice to know other people here have more guts than me :)

Reading through the articles I could find (google it yourselves - there's a few out there), it really doesn't sound like it's OUR Firefly-related...sorry...but I could be wrong (I hope I'm wrong).

As for the idea of a theme park ride, I have to say I REALLY like that idea. Though a whole LARP of Firefly, set on a simulated ship, would be my absolute ideal (okay, so actually BEING on a real Serenity would be my ideal :). There's a link here about a LARP. Too bad we don't have some rich person willing to make a Serenity LARP set...but we'd probably all rather they fund a season of the show instead!

That is what I got too Maniac. The gentleman I spoke with, Mike, was a nice guy, but said he did not know anything at all about Firefly, the BDM, or Joss Whedon.

I'd say it's just a case of "what'll we call our studio?"
"How about Firefly?"

"Any body using that name?"

"No."

"All right then - next business..."

Still, a ride? Schvoot. Very schvoot. Especially if the line to the ride is a walk-through of the ship. The ride itself could be a roller-coaster type thing, very much in keeping with the craziness of "The Message". Mmmmm . . . walking through Serenity. Mmmm.

"Once, just once, I'd like to be able to land someplace and say, 'Behold, I am the Archangel Gabriel.'"
"I fail to see the humor in that situation, Doctor."
"Naturally. You could hardly claim to be an angel with those pointed ears, Mister Spock. But say you landed someplace with a pitchfork . . ."

So, Maniac, have they called you back yet? So they can talk to you about things?
