So I'd been hearing about this show tv show named Firefly for quite some time. How it had been cancelled and all that jazz. I actually saw Serenity a few years ago not realizing that the two were connected. Well, I decided to watch the tv series on netflix last night. I ended up watching all 14 episodes through the night, with only bathroom or food/drink breaks in between. I finally realize why people were so pissed about this show being cancelled. Its a frickin' masterpiece! I've officially been converted to Firefly fandom!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

At least you finally found us, that's better than not. Welcome aboard the best boat in the 'verse. There's plenty of room left, and I'm sure there will be a few others coming along even later than you, so best to find a bunk and settle in.

Luckily the Firefly party is one that keeps going... and going... and going...

I think it has something to do with being a classic, iconic, incredible show. Oh, and the open bar. Gotta love that open bar...

Welcome! So glad you found the best show in the 'Verse, and this shiny place with such shiny folks.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! It's good to have found a great Firefly community site so fast. So I just finished watching Serenity again. Other then Browncoats: Redemption, is there any stuff you guys could turn me on too? I know there are comics and the like out there, I just don't know about any of it.

Welcome aboard!

I just got here a couple weeks ago myself. I only found Firefly and Serenity about four months ago, on Netflix like you! I am totally obsessed, like with no other show in my rather long life time. I watch an episode every day, finish with the movie and start all over again. haha Yeah...obsessed.

I have begun collecting the books based on the series. It's easy to find 'em on Amazon. Just type in Joss Whedon and/or Firefly and look around. There are some other great sites in the Cortex oh, I mean Internet. haha Just type in any or all of the appropriate words and search. Another thing I have really enjoyed is watching the interviews and panel discussions with the actors found on YouTube, especially at DragonCon. All of these guys are hi-larious and informative. Just go to YouTube and type in Firefly, Serenity and then try all the actors names. Jewel Staite (my favorite) has a ton of stuff on YouTube. Jewel and also Nathan have blogs and Twitter accounts you can read. I have files of this stuff in my Bookmarks and regularly dip into them to get my fix. hahaha

Well, anyway, that's been my approach. I would be more specific with titles and Internet addresses but there are just too many. With a little leg work you can find 'em easy.

Firefly/Serenity is enjoying a very lively extended existence. Yes, there are comics, plus novels, and excellent behind-the-scenes "companion" books and a Serenity Role Playing Game, and extension books. There's also lots of cool licensed merchandise.

If you'd like to buy books through Amazon, then I recommend using the link on the homepage of this website. When you purchase items through the Fireflyfans.net Amazon store a certain percentage of the money goes to supporting this website but you don't pay any more than buying the regular way.

For ultra awesome licensed Firefly/Serenity merchandise, just mosey on over to the QMx website... lots o' goodies to be found: http://store.qmxonline.com/_c_1.html

Have fun.

Welcome!

My wife and I have been going to Dragon*Con since 2006 because of the 'Verse. For a short lived TV show canceled 8 years ago, there is a lot of Firefly/Serenity paraphernalia still there, even if it is someone of another fandom wearing a Firefly lanyard!

Welcome MCS0083. Here's a genuine script for an episode that was sadly never filmed - I believe parts ended up in other episodes (more like mini concepts did) but I think if you read it you will agree that it has that Firefly magic and would have made for an excellent episode in its own right:

http://web.archive.org/web/20070916044944/http://www.fireflyfans.net/f
eature.asp?f=45

Dead or Alive - is the ep name, if you ever lose that link you can always google it, there are a few places to find it (thx to TWO for the above link).

Also, in terms of fanfic there's a collection from a really outstanding group of writers (who happen to be fans) that can give you a sense of what it may have been like had the series continued. They wrote in script format to keep the feel the same and post their work here:

http://stillflying.net

And if you find yourself hankering to swear like a Chinaman - and I'm sure you do by now - here's a guide to Firefly Chinese:

http://fireflychinese.kevinsullivansite.net/

It won't be long you'll be clicking through channels and you'll mutter, "go se" without even noticing.

Follow the link in my signature and you can listen to some of the best scifi film scores and soundtracks and get an occasional dialogue clip from the show - it can help get you through the day sometimes.

Jewel (and the writers of course) did an amazing job creating such a lovable character, no matter what roles she does in future, she will always be little Kaylee to me. Besides, she reminds me of an old girlfriend of mine back in college (30 years ago), "one that got away" as they say.

That's how it happened for me three months ago. I'm totally hooked.

While Christmas shopping, I found myself in book stores and Best Buy turning any Firefly/Serenity materials to face outward, hoping that someone else will find them.

I'm visiting my parents for a few days. We finished watching the last two episodes a few nights ago. Tonight we watch the BDM. Mom has made noises about buying the two seasons of Castle....

Well I wasn't going to say anything, but....

(lying :-)

One of the (many) reasons we keep going with The Signal is that new folk keep coming along and finding the 'Verse. Sometimes they find us as well and it's all shiny. There are some great recommendations in this thread and this forum is particularly strong in good qualty fanfic if that's up your street.

On the audio side of things, we will be continuing with season 7 of The Signal next year (probably from around the end of January). We'll have some new crew and we've already started 2 brand new audio drama segments in this year's Holiday Special - Earthburn (serious pre- 'Verse exodus drama) and Shipworks (not so serious post Serenity sitcom :-). In fact we had 5 different audio drama segments in the Holiday Special (should have been 6 but one didn't come together in time) including (ahem) a new Badger's World episode.

All the Firefly audio drama that we know about is linked from or stored on our site as YT said and of course in 2011, Firefly Between The Lines will be starting (from the same folk that did the wonderful Buffy Between The Lines 1 and 2 and the current Angel Between The Lines.) FFBtL will be a pre-Firefly drama (so no Book, but set after Inara came aboard) and that's about all I know at the moment (auditions are over and I'm waiting to hear, with my fingers crossed, like everyone else)

So, welcome aboard!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the *Music*!

We've just published our *3rd* complilation album of Firefly Filk and related fan produced music that we've played on The Signal:

http://signal.serenityfirefly.com/mmx/series/view.php/162

also just released as Season 6 Episode 21 on the front page of the main site signal.serenityfirefly.com

Check out Songs From The Black (the original complilation) and Songs From The Black II: The First Rule of Flying. Here:

http://signal.serenityfirefly.com/mmx/series/view.php/158

and here respectively:

http://signal.serenityfirefly.com/mmx/series/view.php/159

Many of these tracks come from pro and semi-pro artists who have whole *albums* of shiny music available to buy (folk like The Bedlam Bards, Marian Call, The Persephone Pickers, The Browncoats, Star One and others) All music, including the hi res individual downloads are used with permission, 'cos Browncoat musicians are just as shiny as any other Browncoat :-)

All 3 Songs From The Black albums are absolutely free to download, includig the hi-res versions and accompanying artwork to allow you to burn your own CD albums of Firefilk goodness. (The majority of these are completely original compositions by the way. Any straight covers are simply the best you are *ever* likely to hear.

Enjoy.

To the original poster, I had a similar introduction as well. One of my friends bugged me about some "space western" several years ago. I didn't think much of it.

Ended up seeing Serenity, loved it, and friend suggested I check out the show again. Didn't follow up.

Some years pass, and I'm embracing my inner geek more and more. I buy the Firefly DVD and watch it pretty much straight in one day. Been a crazed fan since, and have made many happy moments and memories because of it.

This idea has been passed around before, but if it ever got off the ground I'd gladly donate $500 to the cause. Heck, I'd get another job and donate that check weekly to Joss to get the show going again.

Welcome Aboard!

It always makes me happy when we get new folks aboard. They all got stories!

There's a lot to explore and enjoy from our little short lived masterpiece.

The one thing folks forgot to recomend is the fan documentary - Done The Impossible, made by fans about fans for fans. Our Firefly crew is included as part of the fans. Adam Baldwins introduces the various segments. It is 79 minutes long but has hours worth of information to explore on the computer. The easter eggs are a hoot. It is available through Amazon as well.

It is extremely well made and includes a timeline of what happened from Firefly to Serenity. I happen to be in it.

Well it was actually YT that recommended us originally :-)

No, no plans to stop The Signal anytime soon - just appointed 4 new crew and are gearing up for Season 7. Should be good. Hoping that Firefly Talk will also continue it's return this year (after a 2 year hiatus).

Be nice if we could get listed in the Firecasts section of this site, but I've given up trying to get Haken's attention TBH. (I tried several times over an 18 month period to no avail. Only Firefly Talk is listed there and they haven't been online again until very recently. Just doesn't seem to want to know about The Signal or any of the other Firefly audio out there, which is a shame as there's lots of good stuff.)

Thanks for listening!

Here's an interesting statistic.

MCS0083, who started this thread, is member 43589, joining us on December 26 of last year. Less than two weeks later AmyL joins us as member 43786. Nearly 200 new members in the last two weeks, eight years after the cancellation.

Let's do the math. The result is horrifying: A hundred new Browncoats a week equals 5000 in a year equals 5 million in thousand years. Now compare that to Little Fockers, which sold $123 million in tickets in USA, so far. That's 13 million Americans went to see the Fockers in 2 weeks versus 5 million new Browncoats over a millennium. I think Fockers will be rebooted before Serenity II. . . . . I will never be able to get rid of the Focker stain in my brain. Wish I could.

We need to be tough minded realists like Zoe and Simon. Those two aren't self-deluded. In 2011 there will be a content drought - The Whedons have nothing Firefly scheduled. No comics. No nothing. Which leaves all that empty space in the Blue Sun Room waiting for ECGordon to fill. It would be so much better if it was you, with your high standards, rather than me with my “Firefly Femslash is Rare” www.fireflyfans.net/sunroomitem.asp?i=23260

I don't claim to have a talent anywhere near that of Joss and Co., so you won't be seeing anything from me in the BSR. Doesn't mean I can't hope for something official, even if it's not scheduled for this year. I may be a deluded Browncoat, but I'm a happy one!

I don't think it is a matter of talent. I got stories set during the movie and in the week immediately after. They are great in my mind; less than great on the computer monitor. I need to seriously work on learning how to properly tell a story. Look for them in 2014. By then I might be a good enough writer to meet the challenge of the stories.

If that's not a true indication that we're still flying I don't know what is.

I thought we were running out of strawberries and Mudder's Milk at a great rate, to say nothing of the wear-and-tear on the hinge of the locker for the virtual browncoats, both new and lovingly worn.
I've been chased up and down this 'verse by the Alliance until I thought I'd wear out the accelerator on Shuttle Two, and the latest "diversion" of ice-planets (now, now, no scruples, friends - - they were Badger's) didn't last long enough to supply the party for E-T-W New Year.
Welcome aboard, all y'all, and we apologize for the occasional bare spot in the exotic comestibles. There are things you'd really not want to run out of - - they get priority, of course.
