America loves a winner!

Just watched 'Smallville ' while preparing for Angel. When Clark has to plunge that big ole needle into her heart..., thoughts immediatly flew back to OoG, Mal in the infirmary. I'm sure it had something to do w/ getting ready to watch our HERO coming up on ANGEL.....heh heh

I work in the Purchasing department of an RV company, but I'm also responsible for the production schedule - keeping track of what units are coming in the door when, and with what options. If a dealer wants a unit with an unusual option (no air conditioner, for example) we have a process for approving the "Special" change order. I had a salesman call today and ask for a "Special" change order, and I SWEAR he sounded just like Book reminding Mal of "the SPECIAL hell....".
OK, it looks kinda lame written down, but it was funny at the time....

MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."

I had a firefly moment at work the other day. I was looking up file notes and our clients attorney first name was Serenity. It immediately made me smile. It was also made me unable to focus on my job for the next few minutes.

So. . .I had a rare opportunity recently to fly 'back seat' with our Brigade Commander in the front seat. Sort of his 'last hurrah' before he hands the mission over to our replacements. . .We've made the run to several of the more remote fire bases, which many of us firefly-minded pilots refer to as 'the rim' or 'the border worlds', and as we're coming back home to Kandahar (our little Persephone, I guess), we have to hold a pattern for a few moments as a bunch of Marine Corps helicopters come in.

We're sitting here, watching a whole mess of USMC aircraft cruise past us, new to the mission and such, and I comment that with the Marines here with their helos and Harrier jets, and our replacements bringing more aircraft than we had, I was surprised there'd be space for all of them.

The Colonel, who is NOT a Firefly-type, says somewhat wistfully (I bet most of you have guessed already)

"Yep. . .gettin' awfully crowded in my sky."

I was sitting in Physics class yesterday, pretty much falling asleep, when my physics teacher suddenly referred to the equations of general relativity as 'wacky fun'.

That woke me up; I couldn't stop grinning. Which I think slightly worried my physics teacher who I'm sure already thinks I'm freak since he found out that I skived one of his lessons to go to a buffy convention.

Ok, some friends and I were playing this odd little card game. Some people are secretly "Mafia", and they "kill" other players. Then everyone has to figure out who the Mafia people are.
During one round,I kept getting accused of being Mafia, and, when I asked why, one guy said, "Because I think you are."
I replied, kinda drawling, "Thinkin' don't make it so."
One of the girls just cracks up and when she finally gets under control, says, "That sounded just like Mal."
Yay!

Also, if anyone else noticed? On the first Angel episode with Adam Baldwin, Spike said "fixin' to", and Angel said something about "philosophize". I think it's a correct form of the word, but just the way he said it made it really sound Firely-y.

"We're just happy to be doin' good works."

MISGUIDED BY VOICES

I know it ain't a Firefly moment - but this thread has reminded me.

Back when I was doing my degree, I opened one of my last exam papers, and one of the questions involved a contractual dispute between Sheridan, Sinclair and Franklin.

I had a Firefly Moment at work last night. I work the Front Desk at a hotel, and this weekend is my turn in the rotation for midnight shift. At about 1 in the morning a taxi dropped off a young woman who'd been drinking downtown and she promptly threw up on the sidewalk and collapsed for a little lie-down in said pool of bile and liquor (it was pretty clear she'd not eaten anything... possibly all day). Her friends put her in a cab in that condition and sent her back by herself - that really made me mad, but that's a separate and irrelevant story. She was still somewhat conscious and knew what room she was in. Up stairs of course. I half-carried/half-walked her down the hall, and when I got to the bottom of the stairs and looked up, my first thought was - to steal a Kayleeism - "I tried to get her up the stairs. She was just... *heavy*." I did manage to get her up there, though. I just felt bad that when she couldn't crawl, she couldn't find one of her so-called "friends" to carry her.

Yesterday, my friend and I were watching Twister, a movie that can make me a little crazy - got chased by an actual twister once upon a time. Toward the end of the movie, the newscaster said something about the tornado heading toward Canton County.

Yup - you can probably guess what I said next.

"The hero of Canton, the man they call.... MEEEEEE."

You are somewhat of a big damn hero for doing the "right" thing by that poor girl, despite her probably bein' a bit on the aromatic side...

My latest Firefly moment came this past Saturday after my son washed and waxed my car. My sister said, "It's so shiny!" I just said, "Ain't it just."

Well, my shift finishes at 7.... I could smell bile ALLLLLL night, 'cause I got some on my shirt. The next night I actually had alot more problems with rowdy people and such, but since everyone kept their bodily fluids to themselves I actually counted it as an improvement.

Ah... today on the way to work, I saw a guy in a coat that happened to be brown. Reminded me of Mal, and how cool it might be to have an actual long, fitted brown coat. So I mentioned this to my friend who works with me (who also, btw, got me interested in Firefly, wonderful girl) and we proceeded to talk about how neat it would be to find a coat.

We were loud.

If the man in the brown coat didn't give us the weirdest look in the world... I don't know who could.

I entirely forgot about the Serenity Prayer!

This is what happens each time I say it in my head:

"God, grant me the Serenity...
ummm, where was I? Oh, yeah...
God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things I cannot change (Fox )
Courage to change the things I can,
(I [and MANY others] helped get the movie to be made!)
and Wisdom to know the difference..."

At work today, someone from another area was visiting the woman who sits next to me. In her hand was a spherical object. It appeared to be a styrofoam ball with fake flowers glued to it. It was hanging from a string and may have been a decoration for a wedding or some such. Anyhoo, when I glanced at it, I thought, "Her food is definitely problematic."

GUNHAND

Okay this one is so bizare that if I wasn't there I wouldn't believe it was true, but I was there and it's all true...

I'm currently at "home" as in where I grew up, to help my mom out with some house repairs. So today she says to me,"Want to go for lunch?" I thought for all of 2.2 seconds, free food usually gets a faster response time but I also decided that since the weather here was for once fairly decent (weather being why I went literally about as far from here as is possible and still be in the contiguous 48) I wanted to drive my own Jeep with the top down, something I managed to do here all of maybe 10 times in the 5 years I had it up here. Even though I thought it was a mite chilly, but she agreed thinking we were having a heat wave. So I go and pull the top, doors, everything off and we set out to go into town.

Yeah that's a long setup, but trust me it's worth it...

Anyhow, we stop to pick up a couple of her friends that wanted to see me, appearently they still think I'm 5 and wanted to pinch my cheeks and have lunch with me since I'm a world famous...okay small town boy made good and GOT THE HECK OUT famous. So off we go to town to get some lunch, me and the ladies.

I get to town and get on the road that leads to the strip where all the fancy dining establishments are, hit a red light. Well it's 3 lanes there, one coming the other way, a turning lane and a straight through lane. I'm minding my own business, inflicting sonic doom on the poor ladies (well not really but I don't think any of them ever heard Pantera before...) and all of a sudden this car decides he's going from the right hand turning lane into my lane...right in front of me. Now. While we're stopped. Now this sort of thing doesn't phase me much, I'm used to big city driving and all but the guy didn't signal, didn't motion he wanted in, didn't even LOOK and the next thing I know I'm slamming into reverse to avoid having a Ford Galxy 500 convertable circa 1970 on my bumper like a trussed deer.

Now I'm not the most subtle of men on my best days. Nor the kindest, gentlest or most restrained at experessing my displeasure. So before I knew it the stereo's off, I'm literally standing up holding the roll bar to make sure he can see me and out of my mouth comes...

"Huh choo-shang tza-jiao duh tzang-huo!" now if you know your Firefly Mandarin, well that's pretty nasty stuff.

Shocked silence from the back seat, guy finally looks in his rearview, my mom is laughing her off because she's watched Firefly...

The guy's eyes locked with mine, I could see his bald pate glowing in embarasment, so I add a final shot...

"Dong ma?!"

More laughing from my mom in the passenger seat...and hysterical laughing from the car that's now parked next to me as soon as the "Dong" came out of my mouth, by the time I finished "Ma?" I was looking at the car next to me. This car being a Chinese restaurant delivery car with two very attractive young ladies in it literally laughing so hard they were crying and nodding. Guessed they "Dong ma'd."

I sorta stood there for an extra second. Sat back down. Looked over and tipped my hat to them and then the light changed. They waved and gave me a thumbs up as we went on our merry ways...

I think tommorow I'm gonna go for some Chinese.

So there's my big Firefly Moment of the day...hell I doubt I'll top that one, like, ever.

I teach at a technical college and had a student say the same thing in response to something I'd said to my class. It threw me off so badly that I just stood there, silently smiling at the memories for a moment.

Then I shook my head and said, "Ah, the joys of chemo brain!" (my catch-all excuse for these moments), and got some genuine laughs at my own expense.

Well worth it.

GUNHAND

Last night I had a serious bout of insomnia, so I needed to watch something and at the ungodly hour I was needing to watch TV all that was on was infomercials.

So I decided to watch a DVD, "Basic" to be precise because I'd seen it so many times so I wouldn't have the urge to have to stay up to see how it ends.

For the hell of it I put on the director's commentary, he's explaining the opening shot of the Canal and saying,"The mix of music with this little southern girl voice is there to clue the audience in that we're trying to play sly with this film."

That had me laughing for a good 10 minutes, and certainly put an odd spin on the rest of the movie...
