mine doesn't get here til friday...am probly paying more for it than the rest of you which is weird considering it'd be cheaper for me to order it from the US considering the Aussie dollar has virtually the same value as the US dollar...but I'm supporting the only comic book store in Newcastle NSW.

How come when you get on Borders it says it won't be released until November 9th? Is the Nov 3rd date just for preorder sales or has it been moved back again?

It might be a venue thing.

The book is out in comic stores today (although the store closest to me didn't get any copies, and my regular store said that they were allocated a certain number by Diamond).

Barnes & Noble, Borders, and Amazon all list the release date as 11/9, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're actually shipping before then.

It might also simply be a system technicality. New Comic Day is a Wednesday, but I believe New Book Day is usually a Tuesday. Could just be that all three systems default to the following Tuesday if something is released from Wednesday on.

Hey, thanks, Gwek...

Called local comic store, and sure 'nuff-they had it(but they only got in 4 copies, mind you), sooo done and read it...I'll be interested to see the comments. Me and the mister had completely different takes on it...

But let me be the first to say I liked it...and I'm not very religious. I do have to say it has this nice poetic feel to it.

Soooooo, when do we get an Inara backstory, now?

I just read the graphic novel yesterday and I have to say that I enjoyed it. For the people who've read it, I one question.

Select to view spoiler:

Since Book was resposible for the murder of 4,000 Alliance Troopers during the war, and was cast off the I.A.V. Alexander, you would assumed that he was Dishonorably Discharged. So why is it in the episode 'Safe', Book was instantly given medical assistance by the Alliance. Wouldn't they have flat out denied him?

Just moments ago purchased the little gem from my local comic store!
If anyone's having trouble finding it, they have a whole bunch of copies, and will ship world-wide:

Picked it up today. Read it in one sitting.

I'll avoid spoilers as best possible...

Definitely nice to have more FIREFLY. Solid story... but a bit disappointing. Although I guess after all these years, it would be very hard for it NOT to disappoint.

I guess I'd say good, but not as "cool" as I would have hoped.

Seriously, EVERY comic, from Angel to Buffy to the Serenity ones have basically disappointed me. This can NOT be worse.
But it looks great from the first few pages.

Oh, it's not BAD. I just wanted more...

I haven't been overly excited by the Buffy and Angel comics either. Again, the stories can be pretty good, but because the tone is so different from the series in both cases, it sometimes feels off.

On the other hand, I DID enjoy both Serenity miniseries. They are pretty much spot-on for the feel of the series in my opinion. Except maybe too many robots.

I got mine on Wednesday, and I liked it. Not the origin story I was expecting, and while at first I was happy to see more of the original cast in it than just Book, I quickly decided I think I would have liked it better with just Book - some of the first few panels seemed a bit off to me, characterization-wise, to say nothing of the timeline. I assume that was Zack's doing - was he at all involved with writing the series?

As before, it was not what I expected for a back story, but as it got to the end (or beginning, I should say ;)) I kind of enjoyed it more.

So I guess I'm mixed, but I didn't HATE it at all. Probably have to think about it more.

For the record, I actually really liked Better Days, and to a lesser extent Those Left Behind, and I know a lot of people didn't, so take my review with a grain of salt if you tend to fall in that "majority" category most of the time.

I liked it better than the other two FF comics! It was enough. It was concise. More would have been too much IMO.
And the art was entirely perfect for the story.
Again, IMO.

Great work, Zack!!!

Zack Whedon (brother of Joss), actual writer of the comic. Joss provided backstory details.

Holy shit, the secret of Book! And no one cares! lol

So where can we talk with spoilers? I feel that one of the big questions did not get answered.

Wow, I haven't posted here forever. Hello to all. But how is it possible that this board is not just freaking out like crazy people over Book's secret?

Remain calm... It's only been a week, I have it under fairly good authority that a few people have "normal" lives and also delivery problems... I'm sure folk will amble in eventually. Let your hair down and set a spell. So where have you been?

Everything you said, particularly the last bit.
I do wonder what Joss's obsession with the eyeballs is though, as someone else mentioned (Dobson's fake eye, Simon's crazy sunglasses - where did he get those anyway? - and now Shepherd Book - did it ever stop transmitting??)

LOL, remain calm? NO way! I've been waiting over 7 years to learn Book's secret. Are you crazy? This is a huge deal. I'm not interested in apathy, or a lecture about normal lives, but thanks anyway.

Pirates do not wait for the mailman. Pirates go online! http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http://isohunt.com/torrent_

I got an email today from TFAW.com . The subject was Shepherd's Tale:
"NOTE: This is only a notification that we INTEND to ship a package to you soon. We'll send you another message when your package has actually shipped."
That's certainly good to know. I preordered months ago and now it is out of stock and full list price too! www.tfaw.com/Profile/Serenity%3A-The-Shepherd's-Tale-GN___367673

The only excuse I will accept is that real Pirates boarded a Chinese ship and stole a container full of The Shepherd's Tale, which was printed by Midas Printing International, Huizhou, China. If there's no Pirates, I might accept "the freighter with your book was torpedoed in the North Pacific" as a viable excuse.

Good story. But not a firefly story. Would have liked to see the rest of the crew of Serenity incorporated more throughout the story but a good read nonetheless!
