My filmmaking partner and I were driving over to pick-up two of our leads from our film for a meeting saturday. We were also dropping off new Cast & Crew T-shirts for an upcoming Femme Fatale's convention screening featuring the women from our cast. We got to their neighborhood in "the Valley" early (these two cast-mates are also roommates now), and realized we had about 45mins to burn before we were scheduled to meet them. We decided we had time for a treat, so we drove over to the local Jama Juice around the corner on Ventura. While waiting for our order, my partner (and old friend) elbowed me and hinted I should take a look at the beauty walking into the store. I turned and looked, and who could it be walking though the door, but SUMMER GLAU!!! My partner didn't know her on sight (I'm the hopeless Firefly fan), so I informed him of who she was, and he remembered her from an episode of Angel. I'm sure that she noticed us staring at her, and we probably looked like a couple of Sci-Fi geeks (which we are, filmmakers or not!!!) wearing our matching cast & crew shirts, with a logo from some Sci-Fi movie she's never heard of. LOL I guess I could have pulled the "I'm a movie producer" line and handed her my card, but that didn't feel right (I had no work to offer her), so we just tried NOT to stare, and went on with our day. Believe me, it was hard not to stare!!! LOL!

Here's what I really wanted to pass on to everyone here. Summer is gorgeous! Even more so than I thought from seeing her on Firefly. This is no slight against the DP or the make-up department on the production, but in the flesh she is even more stunning!

I also want to say something to Summer, just on the off chance she visits here and reads this. Ms. Glau, the two "fanboy" looking guys, trying not to stare, weren't stalkers! We are just a couple of fellow industry crazies (you have to be crazy to work in this industry) who appreciate your incredible talent. Sorry if we gave you any concern!

One small post script. That sighting of Summer made my friend go home and start watching Firefly. He is now a convert! He was blown away with Ms. Glau's performance (admitting that it would be so easy for an actor to overplay a part like hers). Now I just have to pry my set away from him and get him to buy a box set of his own!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

As good as all the actors in Firefly are, it is my opinion that Summer's performance is the most accomplished, which is incredible since she has the least experience. You are right that it would have been very easy for that part to come off rather silly.

BTW, I'm sure you've probably mentioned it somewhere else around here, but what film are you working on?

aahhh you guys should have been prostrating yourselves at her feet saying "I'm not worthy!" How many times in a lifetime would you get a chance to meet Summer Glau?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Too bad you did not work up the courage to say hello to her. I am sure she would have been friendly. You could have complimented her portrayal of River and asked about the upcoming movie.

Cool story though.

No two ways about it! She's a Texas girl. She'd have happily chatted with you, and you guys would have been left blinded for life by the crush she left on ya'. Heh-heh.

Note to all browncoats: If you see one of the cast in person, at the very least you should wave and yell "Keep Flyin'" or something, just so they know we're all still supporting them and anxiously awaiting the BDM!!!

i agree summer glau is the most talented crew member in my opinion she also has the most fantastic body but i never thought of her as pretty not unattractive but not what i'd call pretty or maybe it's just that ever body else pales beside gina torres

At the risk of sounding like a caveman:
1. Summer Glau is an extraordinary actress
2. Fantastic body
3. Very pretty face
4. Wish to hell I had seen her!
Basically, she ROCKS!

Well, the closest to seeing a celebrity would be...that Candian Idol guy, and I saw Wayne Gretkzy once, but I only saw his head really... I live in Canada, and I don't see anyone. I mean I'm sure you guys in America see someone famous one time or another, but up here...I was amazed to see the weatherman at the grocery store! Do you know how crazy it would be to see...I dunno, Seth Green up here, just at the mall or something. I would freak for sure. But you kept your cool, that makes her think your only a sci-fi freak and not some sort of worshiper.

I meet alot of politicians. Which makes sense, because when I'm not studying I do government work.

I've bumped into a few celebrities, mainly bluesmen. Never an actor, especially never a person from Fireffly. but I like to think that if I did, I'd do what I do with everybody else (bluesmen included, and I'm a huge blues fan). Smile, nod and say "Hi"

Heh. Tends to freak the citified folks out.

Actually, if I met Summer Glau, I'd probably do the "I'm not worthy" thing. She's just so incredible. Of all the acting seen in Firefly, hers was with out a doubt the most outstanding, and that's saying an awful lot.

Or, alternately, she's actually a nutbar. (kidding, kidding)

Very cool story. I think Summer Glau does River soo well. She's rather hard to play, in my opinion. But, then again, I'm also writing her.

Anywho, she's very pretty. And amazing. I don't think I'd do the "I'm not worthy!" thing. I'd try to talk, and maybe (Well, most likely) get tongue-tied. Or I'd just forget all and just talk. Too fast. As usual. Oh well. I'd meet her.

Remember, you're VERY LUCKY!<----Teela wishes to stress this point.

If you're from Canada, you could meet Jewel Staite, who's from Vancouver.

I did four days of work as an extra on the movie "Cheats" (this was pre-Firefly, of course) and in the course of that got to meet and speak with her briefly.

If you watch the movie (which I mostly do not recommend) I was just off-camera in the crowd in the "douchebag" scene which, in my memory, took about an hour to shoot. To this very day, some of my friends reference the scene.

*Cough*Douchebag

Even without Firefly, I'd have never forgotten her because of that. Sitting there for hours and watching what went on soured me on the technical side of movie-making for all time.

I mean, she literally had to get up, scream "douchebag" and then be dragged from the room at least ten times.

(The other three days were spent filming a hideous and never-ending graduation scene).

To answer your question ECGORDON, the movie weve been working on is called "Guardian Of The Realm". It's a very low (MICRO) budget movie. The core of our creative team, is a group St. Louis ex-patriots that moved to L.A. and now work in the TV/Movie industry. Most of this band of midwest brothers have been working in the industry for over ten years on projects ranging from "Guyver Dark Hero" to "Titanic" and everything in between. My production partner has even worked for Joss (though not directly). He built a worm creature for an episode of Buffy.

You can check out our site at:
http://www.guardianoftherealm.com/

The public site is thin (much more content coming), but the PR site has a movie synopsis, production stills, and bios on the cast and crew.

We are in the late stages of post production, but we're scrambling to have it ready in time for it's first public screening at the "Femme' Fatales" magazine convention at the Burbank Hilton, later this month. If you live in L.A. come out and check it out!

To everyone else, yeah, maybe we should have spoken to her, but industry people try to respect each others privacy to an extreme. Here's why. With some luck, I may have a project in the future that someone like Summer would be perfect for! I'd hate to ruin my chances by making a bad first impression with an awkward chance meeting. If I'm ever lucky enough to be introduced to her at an industry function of somekind, I'll be happy to bend her ear. :)

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

I don't think I'd do well meeting Summer, or any famous person i love. I'd probably scream. seriously. i ALWAYS scream, even for tiny little things. i'm a screamer. i'll probably have to work on that before getting into the television industry...

I don't know lissa, maybe screaming could be your "thing". Everybody'd be hanging out at an industry gig then when they heard a scream from across the crowded room they'd all go "Ah, that's Lissa. Have you worked with her? Very enthusiastic."

I think I met her briefly way back during the days of "Flash Forward". They used my high school to shoot and as part of the deal the top film students got to tour and hang out on the other sets and at a location shoot. I'm sure she came out to talk with a small group of us, but then it could just be wishful remembering.

*sigh* too bad i'll never stumble over firefly celebs over here. but then, i hate speaking english (always have to imagine how ridiculous it has to sound to someone who grew up with it). might even seem shy or intimidated (not because of them being famous, but because i always are when i dont know someone and have no clue what to expect).

concerning real celebs.. hm, i met the dog of a band called mr. president and i think one of them was coming to get the dog (who was strolling around the rooms). else nothing but a couple of moderators that arent too well known. driving one of them home was fun, as she seemed to like my cd and was kind of flipping out (and was funny enough to be a dangerous distraction while driving *lol*)

well, if i ever meet a real international celebrity i'll let you know if the good old "treat them like everybody else" was working (try having a conversation with someone thats not about his job if you dont know anything him/her except that job.. simply on the assumption that in their spare time they dont want to be reminded of their work ,-) )

Since we're on the subject of running into Whedonverse ballet dancers from Texas, I saw Amy Acker (Fred from Angel) this weekend at the Costco in Burbank! I was standing outside waiting for my friend to park, when she and some guy I didn't recognize walked into the store. At first I wasn't sure if it was really her, but after my friend came and we went inside, I looked around for her. I found her looking at the hottubs. I think she sensed I knew who she was, and she looked over at me and gave me a big smile. I smiled back and nodded at her, then let her go about her business.

She is GORGEOUS in real life, let me tell you. (Not that she's not on TV, but it's always a little different when you see people for real.)

You should have told her you recognized her from firefly. I know Summer and she would be glad to meet fans. She's toled me that she never runs into people that recognize her from the show. She's not a stuck up hollywood brat. Come on, she's from Texas, she's cool! So next time anyone sees her say hello and that you worship her and would gladly wash her feet....or something like that.

When it comes to celebrity sightings, unfortunately you can't choose who you'll fun into. LOL

If I could choose, it would be Joss, just so I could thank him for creating some of the best shows on television!
