YAY...also I did not get poisoned by our culinary arts students in their monthly teacher lunch. My students begged me to attend. They did well.

Halloween candy has been on sale for a month and they have plenty of it. It surprizes me. I live on the east side of Milwaukee. We have retirement Communities and students, not many children in that crowd. I think most people are buying it because it is cheaper then standard candy prices.

What? No candy for kids?!? You're like the Halloween grinch. Kids and candy go together like peanut butter and jelly. I always buy candy just in case some kids show up at my apartment. I'm just about ready to throw out last year's left over twix and milky way's to make room for this years batch.

I'm thinking of handing out broccoli this year. Our just cutting to the chase and giving them each five pound bags of sugar.

Really - Nevada Day needs to be the day _after_ Halloween so the parents can deal with the sugar highs instead of school.

Not no candy period...just no candy at school. It's such a hassle policing them and there are always fights over it and the kids are mutant hyper. I am all for candy, Halloween and trick or treating. Just not having the stuff come to school after elementary:)

Still vaguely disgruntled over Johnny's birth. If I had known I was going to have a c-section anyway, I would have made them do it on his due date and then I could have the Halloween/Nevada Day/Anniversary/Birthday aka HaNeAnBirday

Deal no candy in class. They should just setup a giant pixie stick that's like a human version of those water bottles for hamsters. Put it at the door to the school and let the kids get a mouthful of sugar before entering. Done and done.

What's the job?

My department at work went to lunch at this BBQ place down here and we thought about how they move the line so fast with 5 registers going at lunch and dinner rush. They have multiple locations in town. So, we theorize that they must have some BBQing factory in town where they're just constantly cooking the meat. Sounds like a sort of interesting job though at the same time we figure you'll smell like BBQ for months even after leaving the job.

Will your new job make you smell like anything unique?

It's just at an insurance company. But the pay is good and the benefits/perks are sweeeeeet.

I'm no longer a temp! It feels great to say that!

I don't think it gives me a unique smell, no.

When we go out for lunch we often smell like wherever we went (like the Japanese place where the guy goes crazy on the grill, we smell like those places ).Does that count?

Edit: I thought of a ponder, but its WAY un PC and may cause drama here but I'll ask anyway.
Bullying. Its a hot issue latley. Almost getting shoved down our throats:

My ponder: Are bullies meaner or are kids wussier?

I think its a combination of both. Bullies can get at you more now with cell phones and internet (cyber bullying), but kids gotta cowboy up. It happens to all of us and until everyone starts looking exactly the same in some weird scary sci-fi dimension, it will continue to happen.

Thoughts? I know its friday, and this place dies on the weekends... but I had to put it out there.

I like your ponder Avery
and I'd say kids are meaner. It's become far more socially acceptable to bully past the point of just bullying and into the stalker/assault zone. It's common place for kids now to use social media to terrorize, intimidate, and basically break another kid and the other kids around them don't seem to find it out of line.

I'm not saying there was no bullying when I went to school, but it certainly wasn't generally tolerated to say make fake facebook pages and use them to get another kid kicked out of school.

I blame the internets. It's all their fault. When I was a kid the internets were barely in their infancy. So, information wasn't at the touch of a button. I never even thought about kids our age shooting people or committing suicide. So, it wasn't even in the realm of possibility. I'm guessing that if it was in the minds of kids when I was younger that some of the more sensitive ones who were bullied would go that route. Then it would be just as big of an issue as it is these days. Plus like MsA says it's just another venue for the bullying and it makes it more of a constant thing.

I agree, when I was in school, until high school internet wasn't as popular as it was now.

It seems like kids have more time on their hands to bully (and yet THEY pick people who the consider "losers"...)

Columbine happened when I was a senior and it wasn't until then did they start to crack down on bullying...and dress codes.

There was a bulletin on the ABC News Now ticker this morning saying that some bullying violated anti-discrimination laws. Don't get me wrong, bullying is wrong. But are we going to start charging children with felonies? I want to blame so many people for this but can't seem to find the right ones to blame. F-it. I'm blaming everyone. Wait, that's what got us into this mess of everyone being a victim. Damn...

Well that was interesting. I got an email today about a fraud alert on my credit card. Of course I don't trust email. So, I called the bank and sure enough it was real. Somebody in NY bought two plane tickets for around $4,000 on my card. Yikes! Glad we have legislation protecting us. No charge to me.

Now I just have to figure out if I had any auto payments on that card for anything. I probably need to file a fraud alert with the credit rating people too. Bah! I guess it could be $4,000 worse though.

Quite a bit actually. Happened to me a few months back. Person charged up a ton of stuff on my card. Buy. com called me when said person tried to order some stuff and ship it to a different address than the one I had listed. Saved my ass.

Filed all the paper work needed to recredit my account and get a new card. Even had Buy. com rep ready to help catch him. Was told by the police that I could file a report if I wanted but since the culprit was across state lines all they would be able to do was issue a bench warrant in case said asshat ever came to my home state. They do not extradite for credit card fraud.

Dood is just lucky that Buy. com was not allowed to give me his address or I just might have drove to his house, threw him in the trunk and delivered him to the Cop Shop Batman style!!!

I don't know but I just read about the fraud alert stuff and it sounds like it could be more trouble than it's worth. Like if I have that turned on and do ever decide to buy a house they can actually increase your interest rate do to the added processing time and hassle. Way to punish people for trying to reduce fraud. Sheesh.

Not for me. We used a machine that we've used since the Bush vs Kerry election. Not that it's very intuitive. It uses a big wheel to navigate the ballot where you can just turn right to go forward or left to go back. Then a button to select stuff or clear something. It works but it's silly why not have a forward and back button?
