there's a clip on youtube with Jewel talking about celebrity crushes...seems like most of the cast of firefly is on the panel. that must have been the surprise she tweeted about. I tried to search for other clips but came up with nothing.

That's one from another time Boris - although it is cute! She's such a Lost fangirl! Sean Maher was with her in the one that just happened today. There's another panel tomorrow with Sean, Jewel, Morena AND Summer, and then one on Sunday with Sean and Summer. Hoping we'll get reports on all those (I'm particularly looking forward to the Sean/Summer one - have they ever done a panel just by themselves?) Hopefully someone will give us reports? *cow eyes*

Jewel tweeted this earlier:
"For those of you who don't know, there's a Firefly cast photo session with Froggie's Photos today at 3pm! (Morena's showered, don't worry..)"

I wondered what that meant...so now I know it will be a session with those at the Con.

Sean and Jewells panel was fantastic, they broke out a bottle of champagne and were having a great discussion till Nathan interrupted by calling Jewell on her cell to ask an acting question, to which she responded WWMRD. he then called Sean who told him "what would Simon Tam do"

For the main FF panel the line went all the way around the Hyatt. Twice. You heard correctly: twice. Half the people got turned away. Sean had s STUNNED look on his face when he came out and saw the crowd. And of course Nathan called in again bc borrowed a car and wrecked it. And then Alan called and asked if anyone had heard from Nathan bc he had loaned him his car. Hysterical.

Thanks TWO!!

Incredible! There was a smile on my face the whole time I watched these. The panel was fantastic. Morena, Jewel, Sean and Summer are very talented in their profession, and their contribution to the best tv show that ever was may seem overlooked but I know the browncoats on every Firefly site know the show wouldn’t have been the same without them.

One of the things I really like about watching these convention panels is a feeling that the cast of FF seem to really enjoy being around one another. There’s a respect and caring that most other shows just don’t have. It seems as if they were friends way before the show, almost like childhood buddies. Excellent post.

Summer is adorable, so timid and a bit shy, I love her.

Morena and Jewel…..incredible ladies, and Sean was great! His first DragonCon, but I hope it won’t be his last.

For all the browncoats that were able to be there, I tip my hat to you. You did us proud!

Thanks, Z

The panel was so funny. I have watched it like 10x now, and laugh every time. They are all hilarious, especially when Morena was like to Nathan "You are the weakest link, goodbye" and when Sean was like he vomits all the time, and Morena is like we are talking about acting, not bulimia, and Sean was like oh I thought the question was do I worry about staying thin in Hollywood, and Morena, Jewel and Summer all do a face palm. It was a very funny panel.

I also loved how Morena swears and doesn't care, and then Sean swears and remembers they aren't supposed to, and Jewel shows the back of the name cards that reminds everyone not to swear.

Whoever posted this a big damn hero.

I think everybody is having this problem on every post. The work around solution is to get an error message, hit twice the "go-back-one-page" button, then hit once the "reload-current-page" button, then there will be your post as if nothing had gone wrong.

When posters get an error message, they think their post failed, although it did not. So they post again & again. The problem started at the beginning of Labor Day Weekend, as reported here:
www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=5&t=45126

The unhelpful error messages are confusing posters. It's the system operator, Haken ( www.fireflyfans.net/contact.asp ), who needs to read the messages. I guess something bad happened Friday and redundant messages are being sent to all the wrong places.

This panel was a scream. The part where they are all on their phones (Jewel and Morena fooling around with Nathan and Sean just having a private little convo with Alan on his phone in the background) cracked me up. Summer was the only one with dignity on that panel, lol.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I have just gotten home from DragonCon today. I wish I could have posted from there, but I had no internets. Would have had plenty of time to post from those lines, if I could have.
Some things that weren't covered above:
Sean + Summer = cutest. panel. ever.
The cast photo op was indeed at 3pm, right before the cast panel at 4pm. It did cut it close and was the reason I couldn't make it to the panel, but I got to watch it on in-house TV, so that was good. Still, I think that could have been scheduled much better. It's not the only thing that could have been.
BTW, any Mythbusters fans, Adam Savage does one of the coolest and most fun panels I've been to. Also, he designs costumes for himself to wear.
I've never seen the Marriott so crowded. It was wall-to-wall on Saturday evening. I couldn't really walk through it.
The new official hotel is quite nice. Wish it was closer to the main three.
I didn't get to see everyone as much as I would have liked. I feel like this was the most active con I've gone to, but it was still just not enough. And I wish more folk in general could have been there, of course. Missed you guys!
Zombie Jesus.
Redemption! Check it out, people. It's for a good cause.
I need to get photos together. I hope to see floods of them.
One of the local channels ran a special about the Con. This was not actually a very good idea. Hopefully it won't be allowed to happen again. Not only did they fail to mention you needed a badge to participate and frustrated some people, they may as well have painted some targets on the hotels and splashed "out-of-towner geeks with money, many of whom are getting drunk" under them. So yeah.
"Please tell Nathan this is not his panel."
Spartans!

I'm still recovering from Saturday. Maybe tomorrow I can start recovering from Sunday.

Thanks for posting PhoenixRose! I wasn't able to make it after all so most of what I've been picking up is on twitter. Do you have any other tidbits to share from the Sean/Summmer Panel? I've found the least on that other than that they are both soft spoken, which, well duh. ;) And of course how pretty they are. Can't wait to see your pics though. They are both soft-spoken and rather shy, and seemed kind of un-used to all the attention. You could kind of see them supporting each other trying to carry the panel without a more outgoing cast member. There was lots of grinning, hair-twirling, and squeeful body language. Sean can also toss sarcasm around when it's least expected, and hear a baby coo at 400 paces. There was a great deal of love in the room, and talk of how nice it was to see each other again, and that it was as much fun for them to be there as it was for us. If there's youtube footage of it somewhere, you may see a question posed by yours truly. Also, they kept their phones on silent

It was hot. It might have been less hot than usual, but that just means it was in the 80s and 90s rather than 90-100 degrees. I still feel overheated.

Just talked to a good friend of mine, who just came back from Dargon con and met Jewel Staite while he was dressed like a ninja. He said he asked her for advice on writing for Kaylee's character (I guess for my benefit sense I started this fanfic/learn how to write pet project) and Jewel said, "look up everything you can about large engine mechanics, memorize as much as you can, and try to be cute about it, but keep it crude, she comes from an industrial family."

Is it odd that I feel embarrassed even though I wasn't there and never met her?

Anyway, I'm totally gonna save up and go next year, and probably make sure my buddy leaves out the parts about my attempts at fanfiction.

As much as they are funny It was kind of cool that Nathan and Alan weren't on the panel...they do tend to unintentionally dominate proceedings somewhat. I like the toned down dynamics of this one, though they did seem kind of lost to begin with..,probably weird without the Captain. I thought it was sweet that the others seemed protective of Summer.

Yeah Boris, I loved the way they seemed very protective of Summer also. Almost as if they were still protecting River! When she seemed shy about telling her favorite movie and Jewel and Sean told her to go ahead and say what it was, you can just tell they were being cautions and protective of her and ready to guard her if they had to. The cast of Firefly is still very close to one another.

Summer, although a bit more quiet than her panel mates is totally hilarious though. I love her little joke about being jealous of Alan.

Browncoats:Redemption is a great addition to the Firefly verse. I laughed (especially at my own 15 seconds on screen), I bit my finger nails and I was fist pumping at the end. Also, lots of fans that I recognized (Steamer, who has a lot of lines and Phyrelight who got a very funny line in as a reporter)had parts in the film.

There are even some "unexpected" cameo appearances. I ain't naming names. Buy the DVD and see for yourself.

There were 1000+ at the premiere and I think even some were turned away. It was also streaming until yesterday. Like I said, buy it and support some awesome charities.

Also went to the Summer/Sean panel. Summer is just too precious. Sean, he can hear a baby at 50 paces and is very humorous. I'd love to sit down and really talk to him.

The only panel I was at was the Summer and Sean panel and I'll try to post as much as I remember since I haven't seen a YouTube video for it yet.

It started half an hour late although it did 10 minutes over so it wasn't quite as bad as it first appeared. As someone stated earlier it was sort of awkward at first. They were both charming and funny but neither one of them seems that boisterous.

Summer told a story about how Firefly was the first screen test she ever got and she's there with a bunch of people trying out for Mal and a bunch of people trying for River and she sees Nathan come out and she asks "So how did it go?" and he says "Don't worry, I don't think we're up for the same part".

Apparently Nathan referred to Sean Maher as the bod because Sean is so much more fit than Nathan. Sean said that he and Nathan both had shirtless scenes one after the other and when Nathan had his, he starved himself before hand (Sean explicitly told the audience not to quote him on that so sorry Sean) but then as soon as they shot the scene he had people with doughnuts and stuff standing by so that he could gorge himself. Then they did reshoots and Nathan looked really bloated (although I think that part may have been a joke).

They said the last time they saw each other was like 2 years ago and Sean sees Summer as they're both driving and flags her down and they pull into a bad area of L.A. where Sean shows Summer his baby.

Sean said his favorite episode was "Jaynestown" and Summer said hers was "Objects In Space".

I know one of them said that when they first saw Morena they thought she was the most beautiful thing they'd ever seen but I can't remember who said that.

Sean said he thought the funniest moment on set was when Nathan kept popping up in that scene in "The Message". Summer thought the funniest bit was when Nathan stole the prop guys monkey and sent it around the country with his parents but Sean didn't remember that happening at all.

I'm working at making the others more presentable, for some reason they all came out darker than this one did.
Yeah, I was sitting that close. After the double block-wrapping of the previous day, I got there a few hours early for a morning panel. It was awesome. (though it unfortunately didn't help with the sound system being down just a shade too low. I caught most of what they were saying, but there were things I missed.)

QUANDOM

Thanks to all those ho posted. You provide documentation of ho Ff is different from nearly all other fandoms. I note that in the 1990s 'Banylon ' had five successful seasons, a number of Tv movies, and yet no is as if it never were. I have an acquaintance with pallets of B5 paraphanalia, courtesy of a pack-rat tenant, and it has no market value. FF, initially a commercial flop, has more visibility and pop cultural impact every year, seemingly. Twice around the block, eh? Maybe the original ST cast could still get that, or the current HP ensemble, but who else?

PEULSAR5

We sniff the air, we don't kiss the dirt.

A friend sent me this. Wanted to make sure everyone saw it:

First off, let me put the big bullseye right in the center of my forehead now.
I am the Director of On Site Preregistration for Dragon Con.
Let me first apologize for the waits in the line this year. We were trying a new system and it obviously did not work as intended. We were also limited on how many people we were allowed to have in the building at once by the fire marshal and hotel security. This only served to add to the delay as they would not allow more people to enter until so many lanes of the cue were emptied.
We are developing a bar code system for 2011's show. This of course means you MUST remember your post cards and if they are emailed to you, the print out with this individual bar code. If not, you will be in the main line only to be moved to the solutions line to be looked up and printed out. As it stands the plan is to have printers and scanners at each kiosk and NO MORE ALPHABET LINES. You will be in the main line and when you get to the front, you will move to the next available open kiosk to be scanned and handed your badge. This should greatly speed things up for everyone.
Please remember that the staff of Dragon Con are volunteers. They are fans like you who give their time to the convention. They are cursed at, abused, called names, and have had things thrown at them. While many waited 2 or more hours, remember also that Thursday this year alone, we were there at 9am or earlier and we did not leave until 1:30am on Friday morning and were still back again at 7:30am on Friday to work until 10:30pm on Friday evening.
I hope this clears up any misconceptions about the Preregistration process as well as shows we are working to streamline and change this so it is a faster process.
