Although Joss Whedon will be writing and directing The Avengers, his first foray into the Marvel movie universe has been as a script doctor on The First Avenger: Captain America, and in this exclusive interview he discusses his contribution to that project.

Marvel sure is getting their monies worth out of Joss. If he didn't care so much about Avengers, he probably wouldn't have script doctored Captain America.

This bodes well.

Well, there was a lot of talk about the Cap script not being so hot, and his doing a polish on it was talked about as soon as his name was mentioned for Avengers. Likely all in the same contract.

And if Cap's story is integral to the plot for Avengers (as it may well be, what with being billed as "The First Avenger"), it makes sense that Joss would need at least some input, just to keep everything consistent.

not really his first.
He was hired as a script doctor on the first x-men movie, then the studio hired ANOTHER writer to re-doctor his draft...

only 2 lines of Joss's script made the final Cut, and one was butchered by the actor.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Good point on the consistency. I am glad to hear Joss is polishing up the Cap script and hopefully he will be able to make it work since it will be the lead in for the Avengers movie.

Actually, they had several different writers, including Joss, wrte full drafts, which David Hayter then went through and combined the best (by his and the studio's estimation at least) into the final draft.

I've always been curious what Joss' end fight, which was set in a Wal-Mart rather than Ellis Island, would have looked like.

Funny this should happen cause when I first read Better Days, I always felt that Ephraim Sanda was Joss' take on Steve Rogers. So maybe he'll do good on this script.
