Fellow Brownies,

If you don't want to know any more about the Blue Hand guys before the movie comes out - turn back now...

I found this article a while back, showing a model of the ship arriving in "Ariel" (carrying the blue hand fellows). In the caption, the article says "The Blue Sun Ship appeared in the November 15th episode "Ariel" and is one of the Alliance's ships". Can we consider this as "proof" that the Blue Hands work for Blue Sun? Also, in the episode, Wash says an Alliance ship has just landed (referring to this ship). Is this also proof that Blue Sun is part of the Alliance?

Note: "Brownie" is the Australian word for Browncoat

I'd say the link between Blue Sun and the blue hands is pretty strong, based on various other comments - this seems like a good confirmation of that. As for the Alliance reference, I'd say the link between Blue Sun and the Alliance is pretty strong already, as well - aren't we dealing with a megacorporation-dominated unified government anyway? As such, I'd say yes, the blue hands guys work for Blue Sun in some capacity - and Blue Sun flies Alliance ships (or vice versa, since Blue Sun probably makes spaceships as well as soda cans).

As for the image in that article, WOW - Very nice shot of the blue hands shuttle.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I don't recall Wash saying that it was an Alliance ship. I believe he said "Reinforcements just arrived" or something of that nature.

I do not doubt there is a connection between Blue Sun and the Blue Hands. I am not sure of their connection to the Alliance though. They sure had no problem killing those feds that apprehended Simon, River & Jayne.

If there is a connection to the Alliance, it seems to me that Blue Sun has the upper hand. If they could so calmly kill, what, a half dozen Feds in a hospital on a Core world and walk away without a care in the world.

Note also that the caption described these two ships as essentially recurring characters in the show. While I'm not surprised that the Blue Sun shuttle would reappear, does this mean, then, that we would have seen Jubal Early again (or at least his ship)?

Seems the odds may have been one in....a slightly less large number than Mal had thought...

This is so not a spoiler, man! LOL I wasn't aware that anyone didn't assume the blue hand guys were Alliance. River was in an Alliance academy and I always assumed the blue handers were retrieving her. The unfortunate Alliance officer who "spoke" to River seemed very aware of their place in the Alliance hierarchy. River herself understood that "they" would always be trying to get her back. Akeem's razor sez, "fuggetaboutit."

By the way, was anyone else put off by the fact that guys with blue gloves would be working for Blue Sun? I mean, I'm assuming that the gloves serve some practical function and aren't just some kind of wacky employee uniform. It's like a chain of restaurants being called "Cut-glove International." The connection is too close, unless the gloves themselves are blue sun, which I very much doubt.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

RE: Blue gloves.

It is just a device to show that they don't want to be contaminated by contact with anyone or anything. It conveys better than any other simple device I've ever seen that they hold themselves aloof -- and so see themselves at the top of the "food chain."

Espenson says in her commentary that she likes Whedon's idea that in Firefly all corporations have become one mega-corporation and that this corporation is the government.
The characters in the story are not aware of this, though.

Concerning the blue latex gloves, Simon wears a pair in the surgery scene in Serenity when he is working on Kaylee. They are common, everyday medical gloves. Now think about River's aversion to the Infirmary and how Simon's profession and professional tools affect their relationship.
