Used to be I had a certain disdain for fandom in general. Then I came upon a little show that I like to call Firefly....

Now I'm posting on fanforums, getting all rabid about things and calling myself a browncoat. I hear "The Ballad of Serenity" and my heart soars. I would seriously go to a Shindig, if there were one happening in a place I could reach. and I have to ask myself "when did this happen?"

Hell, I'm seriously considering getting the DVDs, and I don't usually go in for that kind of thing.

You're most likely right. The DVDs aren't that expensive these days in any case.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the Browncoat Support Group TheFop, for those suffering from accute Firefly addiction. We are all sufferers.

I knew I had it bad when I bought a brown coat, starting using "ruttin'", "gorram", and Chinese phrases everyday. Add to that fact I am quoting episodes and passing along life lessons from Firefly and it makes me one big addict.

Go ahead and break down & buy the DVD set. You won't regret it. I love my set and watch it frequently. I have loaned it out in the hopes of sharing the joy of Firefly w/ others and bringing new fans to the fanbase.

Welcome and enjoy your stay!

Buy the DVDs, you won't regret it! (Then again, I got mine Dec. 9 for $20)

I feel your pain about the Shindigs. I need to find one close to home.

You know. . .I know EXACTLY how you feel.

The cool part?

"Firefly" is the coolest show to be a fan of! No funky foreheads. . .no 'made-up' languages. . .at 'shindigs' the girls get to wear finery, and the fellas can strap a gun on their hip.

$20 when they came out? i was kind of annoyed that i will have to wait til april (19th) and pay €55 (which if im not mistaken should be $55-60). and that still requires importing them from the uk as i doubt the dvd will come here before they aired the show which wont be before 2005 and its even unclear when in 2005 they will show it. chances are i'll get to get the movie on dvd long before they show firefly on tv (they might even wait for that on purpose *sigh*).

thank who- or whatever you believe in for the internet and sites like penny arcade arousing your interest in a show you never heard about.

and still, even with all episodes and extras in perfect quality taking up 5gig i cant wait to put the dvds on my shelf and listen to the commentaries. they might be useful to convert a few more people and make them see serenity when it comes out ,-)

They weren't $20 when they came out. You had to pre-order them by November 28, I think. I heard about it from here.

thats comforting, thanks ,-) so it will just be about twice the us price. could you comfort me even more and say they cost much more when they came out? ,-)

im wondering how many other fans here are from germany (i think i saw one already). its about time for a ff con over here though it seems that right now a convention of all german fans would end up being a handful of people getting drunk in a bar. oh, wait, we wouldnt have the money to get drunk after importing the dvds *lol*. good thing im not drinking anyway and if i cut out the eating for a few weeks...

and one other thing: anyone telling me that there already were a bunch of shindigs over here will be shot for not telling me earlier ,-)

Well, if I hadn't pre-ordered them, they'd be $30-$40. I've seen them for $50.

Pre ordering saved me some money, but the fact they sold out quickly, and the fact they are hard to replace from the vendor has driven the price up to $44.95 - $49.99 U.S. in my area. Pretty pricey for a 14 episode DVD set.

lol, i hadn't even seen a single ep when the dvds first came out, but i'm such a joss nut that i got them the fist day. and what's more, i wanted to get them at wal-mart so they'd only be like 27 bux, but thay weren't there yet so i went straight to strawberries and payed like 40 bux. i am a dumbass, but a dedicated one. i refuse to pre-order cause i don't wanna wait for shipping lol. sigh...funny me.

shipping shouldnt be a problem when you preorder. usually they send them a few days ealier so you get them at the release date (and if youre lucky a day or two before that). of course some shops have the tendency to ignore these dates and just put them on the shelf when they get them.

not getting anymore firefly even made me watch angel again. and now i cant tell if the premise of season 5 is just more appealing to me or if the only reason it was just completely unfunny and boring back then was the lousy translation (considering that even the german version of futurama refused to be funny at all guess what im suspecting? a translator actually saying in an interview "it doesnt have to be funny, it just has to sound funny".. please somebody tell him its not targeted at 3 year old comatose retards and at least some basic knowledge about technology doesnt hurt when translating scifi.. and i guess a sense for humour wouldnt be that bad either).. im still shuddering. could you imagine firefly without the great dialogue and with bad voice actors instead? cant they demand the contract stating it has to be shown with original audio in the second channel? who needs a mono mix anyway today..

Especially when they are asking almost $100 for 16 episodes of StarTrek: Voyager. I'd rather buy a third set of Firefly DVDs!

In fact, the gals can strap a gun to the hip, too.

I'm totally with TheFop. Never bought a DVD set before, never visited a fansite for anything before. AF (after Firefly) I'm your basic rabid fan.

(My sweetie thinks I'm totally obsessive about FF. I keep telling him he has to meet YOU people! Here, I just fit right in.)

suddenly €55 look like a real bargain, considering that i can watch every single firefly episode dozens of times without it getting old while id pay money if they would finally stop showing voyager over and over again.

should i feel weird that after seeing each episode about 6-20 times i still cant wait to get the dvds? time for a frame analysis, there must be some subliminal messages to make you addicted or something. the last time i could watch something all day long was star wars when i was a child (well, i still can if we stick to the original trilogy). glad that firefly has all the magic that star wars is so utterly lacking since it became a showcase for computer effects and sword fighting. so guess whats the bigger event in 2005? ,-)

Never said I wouldn't pay that for them Knibs, I have 5 times now.

I would pay double that for the DVD set in all honesty. I have gotten a ton of enjoyment out of them so far, and have shared that w/ a number of friends.
