I had not seen this series before. I was in college when it was released and didn't have enough Television time to notice that it was even going to be a series. I love the concept to death and had I been known that a series of a western porportions in space was going to be on I would have made it a point to watch.

Last week was the first time I watched the series through the DVDS. I loved it. I watched the whole series in one day. Then watch each episode three or four times. (One of the best Spring Breaks ever!!)

Well, the night after I put the DVDs away I have a very sureal dream. It took place in my own city. I was on a rooftop looking down at a strange site: it was a box of bananas. Suddenly a group of children who were very worn down, ran towards the crate and began eating the bananas. Just like how the story of War in Firefly, the bananas began to explode and the children began to fall in the street with blood flying in all directions. This dream was very vivid to myself. I woke up that morning.

I took a shower and tried to wash away the sick thought that I just experienced from my dream, but I couldn't shake it. Then while in the shower I started singing "God Bless The USA"

Anyways, later on while reflecting over the whole dream and the series I took a look at the lyrics to Serenity. They looked vaguely familiar. As Joss says in the commentary they describe a man who has lost everything he believed in. The lyrics of God Bless the USA are about a man who has everything. But when they are put together you have the story of a man who is a lot like Mal, but in terms that are closer to home. Anyways here are the Lyrics together, what do you think? -----

And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free Take my love. Take my land. Take me where I cannot stand. And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me. I don't care, I'm still free. You can't take the sky from me. And I'll gladly stand up next to you Take me out to the black. Tell 'em I ain't comin' back. and defend her still today Burn the land cause there aint no doubt I love this land... And boil the sea. God Bless the USA. I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free You can't take the sky from me And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me Have no place I can be and I'll gladly stand up next to you Since I found Serenity and defend her still today But you can't take the sky from me. Cause their ain't no doubt I lovethis land. God bless the USA.
