I'm super surprised this hasn't been put up yet. Television Without Pity just did a '10 Things We Didn't Know About Firefly article', which contains quite a massive spoiler about one of the new short stories due out in the new book.

Also, Browncoats Redemption is at the top of the list (congrats guys!), and they leak an interesting storyline we never saw become an episode.

Jose Molina commented on this spoiler over at Whedoneque, so let’s not jump to any conclusions, at this point.

It may be well into the future, a ruse, or plainly a misinterpret, and it shouldn't keep anyone from buying the book, mine has already been shipped:)

Do you have a link for Molina's comment/response?

I'd have a hard time believing that the "spoiler" is canon (ie, "approved by Joss as the official future of FIREFLY"). Vague entertainment value aside, it's actually pretty fanfic-lousy in a way that would be surprisingly disappointing from the House that Joss Built. Just doesn't seem like it belongs to the 'Verse that I've been watching since 2002.

I wasn't going to get all riled up about it. I actually think it's an interesting take on the future. Death wise I always figured a giant blaze of glory, but the irony works for me (as well as the fact that he took the opportunity to fame whore himself into riches). Also, everyone elses' future seems to be an interesting tick. Even Kaylee and Simon, who I usually don't OTP.

If anything, I'm viewing the stories as non-canon in the vein of the Star Wars comics/novels. Meaning they're more of a possible AU instead of being exactly what happens. If anything, they're like fanfic written by people who were apart of production. Unless of course Joss says "THOU ART CANON." Because then the voice of god says so, and it is ;)

I know right? Buffy and Angel had demons and monsters, and while there's no aliens on Serenity, you don't need them. I always assumed 500 years in the future we'd be genetically concocting tons of potential monsters for the crew to possibly cross paths with. Whether they were more accidental baddies or ones specifically designed (by a certain evil corporation, who we already know was messing with readers).

I actually kinda figured he would be the one to die of old age...just because.

When I first read about the mutant horses, I went WTF? I've heard of that before! Was Joss trying to rip someone's idea off? I need to rethink my devotion to him! WTF?!?!

Then I sheepishly realized that the person that mentioned it was......Joss Whedon...during the Firefly reunion lunch from the BluRay set...

So I therefore blame it on my drunkeness and the fact I've only had 4hrs sleep the past two days. Yeah, that's it.

Thanks for that. And here's the photo mentioned in #10. I didn't know about that.

Same.

Also, *mutant horse'd!* is now a sound effect.

Chances are good that Simon/Kaylee are Jose Molina's OTP, and removing Jayne in his fanfic was killing the love triangle hypotenuse.

That's actually kinda the reverse of how Star Wars does it, in which the EU (It's extended Universe - not alternate) stuff is cannon until George says otherwise.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

*sighs*

Reading things like this just serves to remind me how very much I miss the show, the cast, and the 'verse.

The author of the article is right, it still hurts after all this time.

For some. But there's a long tradition in sci-fi and other genres of continuing on the story in book and comic form.

Star Wars was mentioned above, as a prominent example, the books and comics are probably better than the film prequels. I actually DO consider those canon within that fandom.

I'll agree that we don't have much shot at another movie or tv series, but Firefly isn't dead, not for a lot of people, and you really shouldn't state that as fact. Complaining about how the only activity is in comics and companion books just comes off like you've eaten pine nuts so you can't stand taking a step down to peanuts.

...That analogy soooo doesn't work if you have an allergy...
