Last week, some co-workers mentioned in passing that they're big fans of Angel, and that the past couple of episodes there have been heart-wrenching but really good. So this morning, I wandered over to ask them whether or not they'd ever seen Firefly. They hadn't, so I talked it up and mentioned that although it had been cancelled it was out on DVD and it was top-notch Whedon. And they indicated that they'd definitely have to go grab the DVD set.

That's it. That's my whole self-promotional post. That's why mine is an evil laugh.

So who have you converted to the Browncoat Faith recently?

"Sir, I would like to gingerly point out that it is difficult for someone to be gently reassuring when they're holding three and a half feet of sharpened steel."

I printed out a fine black and white poster I found on this site (and can't find again... oddly) that was in a nice western style with a lovely pic of Zoe (the beautiful Gina Torres) and her gun.

Firefly, where men are men and women are smart, sexy, and ... something. I don't remember 'cause you see; I work in a print shop and I printed out the poster (shhh!) and gave it to the local comix shop. The comic book guy loved it and put it up.

Question - in order to provide proper ratings is there a particular time and/or channel one should watch Angel?

Well, Angel is on Wednesdays at 9/8c on The WB (but not for the next four weeks--those are Smallville).

You won't help the Nielson ratings unless you have a Nielson box. Also if you watch or record a program through a VCR it isn't counted in the Nielsons--you have to watch it through the TV. Nielsons just recently started (partially) including TiVo use.

Watching Angel in its primary spot will help the most, but watching the syndicated and cable reruns shouldn't hurt.

TNT airs Angel weekdays (seasons 1-3) at 5 PM and Tuesdays (season 4) at 11 PM.

For the syndicated weekend reruns (there should be two episodes a weekend--a primary (currently in season 2) and a secondary (currently in season four)--check your local listings.

SERENA

Well, I was feeling pretty smug after I converted my friend and her husband (the husband was a total bonus as he ordinarily won't watch SciFi). I didn't have to do anything but get her to watch the 1st dvd. They bought their own set after that.

So, I was quite discouraged after my efforts to convert my next target appeared to fail miserably. I lent them the 1st dvd and called a few days later to see what they thought. I got a very lukewarm reaction, and discovered that his wife had fallen asleep while watching Serenity! Not a terribly propitious beginning.

Anyway, I left it with them for another week (agony) and got a call from them yesterday asking for the 2nd disk. Turns out they "got it" after all. Phew!

I've come to the conclusion that I hate loaning out my FF DVDs. People handle DVDs like they lack opposable thumbs and are wiping their pigus with their bare hands. Filthy lowlifes... Every time I loan one out, I have to practically hose it down with alcohol. Now, I'm just going to e-mail the address to find FF on Amazon.com.

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

Oh yeah, you, FOX TV!!

I have planned to convert the family one at a time. I introduced my mum to Buffy and Angel (my sister and I have watched both since the start) and now she's hooked. She watched my videos of seasons 1-5 of Buffy and 1-2 of Angel and then followed it from that point with me and my sister. Dad thought it was a kids show until I convinced him to watch a couple of eps and he likes it but doesn't usually tune in. Grr! Mum said she remembers mentioning to us a few years before she started watching that I shouldn't be letting my sis watch it as it looks violent (the ep on at the time was Dead Man's Party) but realises now what it's actually about.

I think they'll like Firefly. She said she'd give it a go and I'm going to ask dad to watch it and give an opinion on it.

Cross fingers, as it may just work!

I got a coworker today. He fell for it hard. He went straight to the store to buy his own copy of the dvds. Who will be my next victim?

Its no fair... I can't convert my friends... they refuse to watch firefly and nothing I have been able to do has worked... showing the all the fun sides of it...

My one friend who I thought would at least try it (and once tired love it) asked me "Are there any aliens in it?!"

I replied.. "No... but there are Reavers!" He blinks at me and says, "NO ALIENS.. don't waste my time."

I tried to do the whole, "... The Reavers will rape you to death, eat your flesh, sew your skin into their clothing and if you are very very lucky, they will do it in that order."

My Other friend comes over and hits me. He says that since I like Babylon 5 I have no tastes that are good... GOD WHY!!!!! I JUST WANT THEM TO WATCH THE BEST SCI-FI SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!! WHHHYYYYYYYY

Well, that's just a nasty crack if ever there was one. In addition to enjoying "Firefly" and "Stargate SG-1", one show I used to watch religiously with the missus, back when it used to air during non-working hours, was "Babylon 5". I give JMS a lot of credit for coming up with something that has a very real "look and feel". The other friend is probably a "Survivor" fan.

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

I have 5 converts. And one convert has a pending convert. I just showed Serenity, and they were in LOVE. And my friend who pirated the episodes may buy the DVDs. (He better for his own good...Both Hero and I will make sure of that...)

I can't claim to have converted anyone yet, but I'm working on 3, possibly 4 (if my mom will sit down and watch it with her husband) with two more waiting to borrow the DVD's.

The trouble comes when you're trying to get them to sit down and actually watch that first episode. I'm convinced they'll be hooked after Serenity.

PERIDIDDLE

I'm working on a few people right now. My parents have put up with my Buffy obsession, and I've gotten my dad following those plot lines. My mom doesn't understand anything about my shows. Though my dad has started to watch Firefly and he likes it.

Now, aside from my mummy dearest, the hardest so far has been my best friend. I'm slowly turning her into me. First I went easy with FRIENDS. Then I got her casually watching Scrubs. Next came Buffy by having it on the TV whenever she was over. Angel naturally followed that. Then, all of a sudden, she's watching the evil 'Charmed' and it's impossible to make her watch any more of my shows. So the hardest so far has been Firefly, which she refuses to watch, despite how much I beg. I guess I'll have to strap her into a chair and make her watch Serenity to get her to realize on what she's missing out on...

Vindication! I have two official converts. They were hooked after a single episode. They're about 7 episodes in, and already upset that they're halfway done, and there's no more (until the movie--I didn't keep that tidbit from them...)
