I just wanted to say hi to everyone! Hi! I must confess, I didn't really watch Firefly when it first came out... I saw a couple of episodes on the Space Channel last month and I loved it! So, I bought the complete series on dvd and watched it all this last weekend! Best 20hrs(?) I spent watching TV ever! The plot is great, the characters are great, everything about Firefly was great! At the end of the last of the special features, I was so sad that my Firefly experience was coming to an end and so angry at Fox for cancelling such a great show... Sigh... I was so excited when I found out that there's gonna be a movie! So, in conclusion, FIREFLY ROCKS!

Welcome to the board MellowFloyd. It is always great to see a new fan join the fold. You came in at a good time, since you have the DVD set, and the movie is due to start shooting in a couple of months.

Glad you enjoyed the DVD set. The joy of that set is you can watch it anytime you want, you have the commentaries & special features, and there is Adam singing the "Hero of Canton". Great stuff.

Hope to see you posting w/ us often.

Welcome mellowfloyd! Just in case you haven't found it yet since you just got your set. There is a hidden feature where Adam sings Hero of Canton just go to the special features on the fourth disk scroll to Joss Sings the Firefly theme and hit the left arrow and hit play.

You probably found it allready but if you haven't it's Hi-larious.

I'm new as well. I remember reading the preliminary material on "Firefly" back when Rebecca Gayheart was slated to play Inara. With other things going on, I never remembered when the show was on, except seeing for the end scenes of "Jaynestown". I kept hearing about how great it was from friends, though. Then the DVDs were released and I bought myself a set on a whim. My "to be viewed" pile is as bad as my "to be read" pile, so it took me awhile to get there. Then one long weekend, I wanted something to watch. Why not "Firefly"? If I didn't like it, I knew a friend who would take the set off my hands. Then I saw "Serenity" and the rest is history. "Once you enter Serenity, you never want to leave..." I spread out the discs over several weeks, finally finishing watching just before the movie news. Nice timing on my part. Otherwise, I would have been staring at the dvds mournfully saying "No more?" I wistfully look at the tv section on Suncoast, swearing there should be a second season up there. What surprised me was the serious moments. I knew "Firefly" had laugh out loud moments, but when that last scene in "The Message" appeared, I was close to tears, even more so after hearing Edmonson saying it was a goodbye song for the song.

So... that's me. That's why I'm here.

They're not taking the sky from me... not without a fight anyway.

Been watching the show since The Train Job. Still haven't gotten the DVDs, since I'm in gorram Ottawa (i.e., everything not sports- or politics-related just doesn't bother coming here ), but they're on the to-buy list. Y'know, when I have money.

Hi, welcome! I have created a total of 6 fans, still quite a low number, but I find it dificult to convince people to give it a chance. After the first ep each of them has been hooked, and all very irritated at me that I made them watch a show that was canceled and they can't have more. They get over it pretty quick however. They realize its kind of like the theory on love "It's better to have loved (Firefly) and lost (Firefly) then never to have loved (Firefly) at all" I like it better this way. But now that we have a movie... I am glad it is no longer befitting.

Also, none of them can figure out how it was that they didn't know it was on tv. Then I explain the Marketing Genuis of Fox.

Buffy and Angel are also shows that I have a hard time getting people to try out, even after they have become fans of Firefly. I also got into both Buffy and Angel late, if FX hadn't had a Buffy marathon one boring Thanksgiving day, I'm not sure I ever would have entered the Jossverse, as my fandom of those two shows drew me to Firefly in the first place. My boyfriend wasn't at all pleased with my buffy marathon watching, since we had rented a condo at the beach and I stayed in all day watching tv while he actually went out to play...I wonder if that's why we broke up...so just kidding!

Giles: No, it's not working out.
Buffy: Giles, are you breaking up with your car?
Giles: Well, it did seduce me, all red and sporty!
Buffy: Little two-door tramp.

Also, please forgive any faux-pas I may make. Beyond common-sense good manners i don't know much about the proper ettiquette.

P.S. Has anyone else thught about what implications the design of Alliance cruisers has in terms of the government that builds them and the function they serve? I have some opinions on this, but they might be utter tripe.

I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on the Alliance cruisers, their function, and theories behind their design. Start a new topic on it and I am sure plenty of people here will check it out & offer up discussion.

We tend to stray off topic a bit, so don't worry about it. Of course if you want more discussion on something off topic, it is better to post a new thread.

GUILDSSISTER

This is my first day posting to this site, too. I'm not a new fan, watched it from the beginning and bought the DVDs the minute they came out, but I have been actively converting all my friends. So far, I've show the first disk to my best friend and her fiance - they loved it so much they ran out the next day and bought the set. I've given it to two people at work - both new converts, and will be giving it to another older coworker next month (she's on vacation). In two weeks another friend comes to visit for the weekend, and guess what I told her we were going to watch???? Right!

So that makes 4 converts plus 2 more in the next month.....not a rabid fan, but a mite persistent!

Glad to meet you all! Hope to attend some shindigs and gatherings soon!

Howdé again. Fellow newbie. Nothin' to see.

Been watching the show since The Train Job. Still haven't gotten the DVDs, since I'm in gorram Ottawa (i.e., everything not sports- or politics-related just doesn't bother coming here ), but they're on the to-buy list. Y'know, when I have money.

Originally hooked (late) on Buffy, then Angel, by now it's just a general Joss-fanness. And hey, being a beginning writer myself, I can call it continuing education.

Y'know, every board has its own character. This place is nicely casual and laid back. It'll make a nice respite from the nuthouses I usually frequent.

Cybersnark!
Ottawa! Wow, a person from my corner of the world. I'm originally from Renfrew and I never find people on the 'net from around Ottawa. Way cool. Very Shiny. And a fellow writer too. Wow.

I also got into Buffy and Angel late, but the Jossverse has enveloped me and I bask in its fabulousness.

:)

I'm not from Ottawa, personally, but it's a place I wind up going a fair bit. I have family there

As I recall, there's a pretty damn good video/dvd place in Carlingwood mall, near the sears. You might try there for FF dvds if you haven't already ordered them. And if they stock them, tell me would you? I need to get a set somewhere, and I'll be passing through our nation's capital in a few weeks

I'll check it out next time I'm up that way. May not be 'till after Easter though, since I'm car-less and public transpo scares me (bad experiences in Kingston).

Ordering online usually runs into the "no credit card" issue. Me being a student 'n all.
