I have heard many descriptions with comparison to Star Trek fans,Babylon 5 fans,etc......
No other show however has worked itself in to a movie deal with so short a run. In fact many much longer running shows may never see a movie deal.
If the show finds another home on TV (or Fox shows signs of intelligent life and brings it back) it will be another first. Yes Star Trek has seen a few incarnations but never returned to TV in original form after movies.
I am ready willing and able to be a loyal franchise....just keep my Firefly comeing.
Just feel bad that the only dress up for conventions besides a Browncoat is Reavers.
Joss will just have to bear with it at convention appearances unless he gives us more info and other alternatives!

That makes us more 'stealth'. We can be classy looking geeks. No turtleheads ... no dumb catsuits ... no stupeedo speedos.

To paraphrase Kaylee, "Reevers is nice." Imagine what you could do with some piercings and tattoos. NO, they don't have to be permanent ... or even real.

You can break out cowboy hats, old dusters, dresses, pantaloons, lots of 'old timey' clothes could be used.

Your own imagination is the only thing holding you back. Take a look at some of the different formal wear pieces worn on different planets. Get a historic costume pattern and go bonkers.

A hat, a sixgun and a good time to be had in the old town tonight.

For Fusion (I know I'm not the only person who said they'd never stay at the Norbreck Castle again but hey) I shall be wearing an old satin gown as the retired Sp'whore you never saw in Heart of Gold, the one who does the accounts and fixes the electrics. I think my daughter wants to be Kaylee's sister.

Incorrect, sir! I myself dressed as a Bluehand for a convention not a month past.

I don't know if it applies to menfolk or not, but we women ... we get to dress up as companions.
I have a few fancy rigs (historical costumes and gowns, etc), I know how to do make-up and hair.
Yeeehaw, I get to be a pillar of the community for a change. :)

Weren't there male companions, just very few? Don't know.

We have town folk, whores, companions, academy students, blue hands, the crew, the Alliance soldiers, Browncoats, Reavers, and so on.

STATIC

A buddy of mine managed to assemble a complete "Independants" battle uniform, complete with the chainmail in the right spots, the brown overcoat, the red scarf, the helmet, the sand-colored pants with the brown stripe, the boots, and an "Airsoft" version of their rifle.

Mind you, it set him back quite a bit, but it looked INCREDIBLE.

Knibblet is right, you are only limited by your imagination and budget.

You can do western wear for regular folk on the Rim. You can watch "Serenity" and do up an Independent uniform. You could do an Alliance officer uniform. You could copy one of the costumes from "Shindig" from the ball Mal & Kaylee attend. You could dress up like a Mudder, or use your imagination and be a Reaver.

BDU pants are the one time karma smiled on the military, practical and comfortable, I wear mine all the time.

They can have mine when they can pry them from my cold, dead fingers. Or legs. Or whatever.

I want a stovepipe hat though, I think I could pull off the Space Carnival Barker look. Then again I have the Madagascar Cobb cowboy from hell look down already so why buy a new hat?

Gunny:

I've got boonies to match, and even tho' I've been out of the USAF for 4 years now, I still hit a local surplus store for fresh supplies of appropriate slacks.

Got to have the boonie for the brim. I'm fair-complected, 1/4 inch-cropped balding; think English Bulldog with its ass shaved, walking backward. Back at PSAB in the day, the Old Man about had a cow 'cause the boys kept rolling up the boonie's brim Stetson-style, tether behind the skull instead of under the chin. They're great hats for sunny work and avoiding a bad case o' the red neck... Might consider one, if you haven't already.

I know I ain't got the courage to walk down the street wearing a mother-knitted tuque...

Respectfully,

Zoid, yeah I have a boonie too, great hat and with a little creativity you can go crazy with 'em. My favorite way of wearing one was pinning up one side ANZAC Light Horse style...never could find me a proper feather for it though.

I'm in the same boat, half Italian and half Scottish, so needless to say as I live in the desert now, I got the Scots coloring. Karma and all that, hehe.

I need to coat myself with a layer of Coppertone just to go out to feed the horses, so I look like someone just pulled me out of a crate with the cosmoline still sticking to me. If I'm working outside, and always am at the ranch, a hat is required. Especially since I can't seem to get out of the habbit of shaving down my skull.

My favorite coat, at the moment, is my old Parka, Night Camoflague, Desert jacket. The Chex-Mix black and green one that is almost duster length. Fine coat indeed for AZ nights. I don't think they even issue those anymore to be honest.

I got mine here:

I got mine in the Walnut, or dark brown, to match Mal's coat, but the natural color looks close to what the Independents wore in the episode "Serenity".

How about a seven foot tall, Irish/Scottish/English/German/French mix, wearing a near-floor-length black leather overcoat, black gloves, black Ray-Bans, black boots, black BDU-style cargoes, and a black knit turtleneck?

Would that fit ANYWHERE into the 'verse? Or is it just too "Matrix"-esque?

And don't just think old timey, think cultural fusion. Just look at the spaceport scene in Serenity -- there is no end to the opportunities for dressing up.

And don't limit your choice to companions -- there are all the guards and hospital workers and endless thugs and alliance officers and Patience and her gang and them backwards folks in Safe and the singer and mudders and others in Jaynetown and the "alternate crew" in Out of Gas and....you get the idea.

This from a woman who named her kid after a trill. And yeah, I have dressed as Guinan it's the easiest one to do for a girl with dredlocs.

I'm actually having one made by a local tailor. Mal's jacket actually is all suede, but I'm having mine made of (very realistic) synthetic suede. I couldn't find an exact pattern, so I got a basic overcoat pattern and printed out a bunch of screen captures from the DVD to illustrate the differences (side vents instead of rear, two buttons instead of three or four, cuffs, no exterior pockets, different style back, etc.) It ain't cheap, and I haven't got it yet, but I'm fairly certain I'll be wearin' it a lot.

Awesome, thanks. I couldn't quite tell what it was; I could only tell it wasn't stiff leather, like most leather coats. I found several patterns last night online, but all of them will need alterations of some kind.
