My very own set of the DVDs should be arriving tomorrow or Tuesday. I've just been renting them repeatedly from Netflix up until now. Anyhow, since the arrival of my DVDs coincides with Spring Break, I was going to have a Firefly Shindig and try and convert my friends. Do you guys have any suggestions for my little shindig?

Here's what worked for me. . .

1. Get deployed to a combat zone in the most hellish place on earth.

2. Watch every damn DVD you can out of boredom until the Firefly set is the only thing you guys haven't seen at least five times.

3. Then watch the whole thing in about 4 days.

OR. . .the easier way is like I did it when I came home on leave.

1. Invite everyone over and say, "I found this incredible TV series that hardly anyone ever heard of, but I think you'll like it."

2. Food. . .lots of good food.. .Superbowl party-type food. . .anything to keep them from having an excuse to leave. (sodas and beer, too.)

3. Put in disk one, and tell everyone to be quiet.

Excellent. I was thinking something along those lines (the second one...) Is there maybe an episode that I could play first to get them hooked and then go back and play the whole thing? I was thinking "Jaynestown" or "The Message". Any thoughts?

I'm throwing a little Shindig and game night. Watch Firefly; play Cheapass Games. I should get about 3 new converts.

Good plan! I'd have friends over, but let them buy their own damn discs

Anyway, you and your buddies be safe over there, alright?

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

Oh yeah, you, FOX TV!!

Play them in the order on the discs. Don't do what FOX TV did, and show them out of order.

EC is right. Please show the 2-hour pilot first. That will be enough to get 'em hooked.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I want to add my voice to those that suggest showing the pilot, "Serenity", first. This episode sets the stage for the whole series, and introduces Book, Simon & River to the cast as passengers on Serenity.

Start them w/ that episode, and load them down w/ good food and Drink, Firefly will do the rest.

Start with Serenity! Do not make the same mistake that Fox did! No matter how tempted you are to show them one of your favorites, let them see the eps in order the first time around.

Agreed, the pilot is definatly the way to go. It seems a lot shorter than it is, when it's your first time watching it.

One thing - be sure not to hype up the show too much before you watch it: tell em just enough to get them in front of the TV.

Also, never say "This part is so funny/cool." Because qith this forewarning, it won't be as funny or cool as they'll expect.

Even the "kill you with my brain" part.

Whew! I don't know what I was thinking. Crazy talk. I'll be showing Serenity first and, with regards to Static's suggestion, have enough food and drinks in the living room to keep them glued to the couch. I'm pretty excited. I could get as many as 8 converts in one sitting. Schweet.
