I was just thinking about Star Wars 3 coming in May of 2005, and the $100 Million Narnia movie, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe scheduled for Christmas of 2005.

I hope Serenity doesn't compete with Narnia during Christmas.

Where do you think Serenity fits in 2005? How about the 4th of July weekend?

Serenity will also have to battle the new Batman movie, Fat Albert, Harry Potter, the Green Lantern, the Dukes of Hazard, Fahrenheit 451, the Fantastic Four, and Herbie the Love Bug.

IMDB, all titles for 2005:

Serenity is a movie based on a TV series. Not to sound like a jerk but it sort of fits into that group. Everything is sequels and remakes.

Kinda strange, when you think about it. I bet most of the movies I mentioned will be big weekend blockblusters.

I still wonder where Serenity fits. My official guess at this time is Thanksgiving.

How about early May, 2005, before Star Wars Ep3. X-men2 did really well by catching the early buzz and beating the summer blockbusters. Serenity could do the same.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Early May, or even a few weeks earlier than that, was what I was thinking. Don't forget that Joss is used to TV deadlines, and can probably do the job right in a lot less time than anyone else. He's got over a year.

Fox retained partial distribution rights, according to IMDB.

It might be better if Serenity came after Star Wars, so all the Star Wars fans could see the trailer for Serenity. Hmmm.

2005 has potential to be Great year in movies.

I would guess a late summer or early fall release. That would avoid A) Star Wars, because it's suicide to put in another star wars movie then and B) Narnia, which is sure to make a killing. They'll also have to avoid that harry potter movie.

Fourth of July is normally a big, blow-the-crap-out-of-everything movie day,so I don't think it'd be there.
I personally wouldn't be too concerned about the Narnia/Harry Potter competition -- Serenity's a whole different genre. But studios probably aren't as blase about that as I am. I mean, these are people who considered LOTR & Harry Potter to be in the same genre simply because they both have fantastical aspects to them.
And Christmas is a bad time to release anything that isn't a)a tearjerker, b)deathly dramatic, c)a romantic comedy, and d)projected to make $40 trillion dollars on popcorn sales alone.

I'd say it's probably going to get an October/pre-Thanksgiving release. August to early November is kind of a weird time for movies -- you never quite know what you're gonna get.

I just hope Mr. Nathan Fillion's leg is better in time to start shooting.
You know, the one he broke to get to the pen to sign on.
