Proud to announce that Media Blender Studio has said, specifically to fans on FFF today, that a hi-def web series based on Whedon's Firefly universe, will begin production in a few short months. The new series will be shot on the Canon EOS 7D and have great visual effects of a new Firefly ship.

The synopsis of the show will be available next week. We really hope to have strong support on this and promise we will not phase out like a lot of shows. We've heard about several web shows that were "in production" and never went anywhere. Well, this show IS happening. We also hope to get some cameos and voice overs of very familiar characters. If you'd like to be involved in anyway, please send our studio an email at mediablenderstudio@gmail.com

Thank you for all the support!

Great News! Who are you?

Googling "Media Blender Studio" doesn't turn up much other than a mention on Pirate News web site (rss), and a neew Facebook page. Got any provenance? Just asking, politely.

Thx Oblivion! I do have a couple more questions:

Live action?

What do you guys mean by web series?

Has Joss Whedon given his thumbs up to the project?

Will it be Canon?

Who's writing it?

Do you have a reel we can see?

As you might expect from a fan of the show I'm a huge fan of independent work, and I sincerely wish you nothing but the best, but I'm also curious (I'm sure a bunch of us are).

In response to your questions:

1. Yes..live action with CG for boat and space battles and visuals.

2. Web Series means you will be available to watch it for free via an interactive website.

3. No. We've just announced this as a fan made series with hopes that we will get an EXTREME amount of fans and rack up the viewership so FOX will take notice.

4. The show will be shot on the new revolutionary Canon EOS 7d cameras. The images will be gorgeous matched with the visuals of the new boat.

5. A team of writers is currently helping pen the scripts based on a pilot that actor/screenwriter Justin Rister wrote.

6. Some of our current project's clips will be available within the next few weeks as well as a teaser clip for the new show. A trailer for Deathdealers is already online, however, we have now switched to shoting with new camera equipment for it so the footage looks much cleaner and crisp.

You will not be disappointed with this new series. The look of the new boat, bridge, worlds, and cast is superb! We wanted the best to replicate it as close as possible to Whedon's universe and so far so good!

Sounds great!

I dont think Pizmos 4th question was actually pertaining the type of camera used but the canon meaning a literary work that is generally accepted as representing a field of work. Is it going to be true to the verse?

It will be 100% true to the verse, time lines, music, and costuming.

In terms of how you'll be available to watch it...no...you will not need Itunes. You will be able to go to a specified interactive website and watch each episode as they air. If each episode crosses a certain viewership number, that number being 250k viewers...FOX will take notice. We here at Media Blender know web television very clearly and with this amount of people watching a show, it would be one of the largest shows out there. We're confident with the support of all the Browncoats and fans, we can make this happen!

What will this series be called ?

When you say it's been given a 'green light' , who is pounding the big red button that switches on that light ?

I know someone who might be willing to help with scoring , do you have a list of the 'talent' that is helping out with the creative aspects so far ?

How will this project be funded , if the webisodes are available for free ?

I know it's the *Love* that keeps 'er in the air , but it seems to me some coin would be have to be procured from somewhere...Crime ?

Each episode will be roughly 30 minutes long. We had planned to go into production in a few months due to other projects slated...but...we've received hundreds of emails and I encourage all of you to keep them coming! We've fast tracked and will begin shooting next week to get everyone a teaser and a pilot episode in which we're discussing traveling around premiering to see the response.

How do you figure that a film can be properly made on a DSLR? A Sony Handycam HDR-FX7 has a similar price tag to a Canon 7D but is actually meant for film and not still photography.

Apparently a price tag is what sets cameras apart...i had no idea! All this time! So the fact that RED footage is just barely a notch higher than 7D footage is irrelevant, right? The sony HDR's quality is crap compared to the 7D's and if you'd done your research you'd see that numerous projects are in development shooting on the 7D. The 7D has a way higher sensor with amazing color and yes is an SLR that has been..oh my god! ....made for film! And you actually said handycam... Since this would be..I'm assuming...a professional production...you mentioning handycam in this post is laughable. And since you had the brass to post in here (thinking you knew what the hell you were talking about), try going and doing some research! Wait! I'll do it for you! Here's 7D footage!

Not to be an ass...which I've totally been. But before you come on here trying to call these guys out...know your facts about film. We're all fans of Firefly and this will be rad. The Canon 7D is beautiful.

Embedding didnt work...so dont be lazy and go look at both types of footage yourself. Unless you buy a $5k 35mm adapter for the fx7...footage DOES NOT LOOK at all similar. Even with the argument in play...no one said they were doing a feature. They are doing an HD web series. Not saying the 7D can't handle it's own in that department as they're several studios using them including ABC for SNL. but this isn't a camera site...its for fans!

Not to be an ass? Are you kidding me? I asked a legitimate question that was not posed in a demeaning fashion and was posed without any sort of malice and this is the response I get? So because you are hidden behind some computer screen, posting on the Internet, that somehow gives you license to throw common decency and decorum out the window and be a complete and utter cretin about this? You wouldn't react like that in a public forum unless you lack all social graces so why is it ok to do so now? The question wasn't directed to you and while I find it strange that you felt the need to create an account on FFF just to respond to this post, I would appreciate it if you refrained from further comments.

You made a passive aggressive statement towards them pretty much stating that there would be nothing "film" worthy about a DSLR. Maybe you should re-phrase statements in the form of a nice question. It's a firefly community...not a place to try and tear down someone's work. If you didn't mean to do that than by all means..apologies, sincerely. but that's how it was coming off to me. And I really am sorry if you didn't mean it that way. It just angers me when I see people doing fan film and putting a lot into things and people on message boards trying to tear them down. We all love this show, the movie, and everything that ppl are trying to do to get it back.

Hi Oblivion.

While this idea is exciting, you have to understand that the fact that you have yet to provide any website information, despite being asked a couple of times, is odd to put it mildly. (Especially for a company apparently dealing in social media projects. Media Blender is a Mac programme and Blender Media is a Vacouver based web design company (Is this you? There is a podcast at least "Nothing But The Truth"). "Media Blender Studios" don't seem to have a web presence at all under that name))

A little further research suggests that this is probably something to do with Justin Rister's MySpace page and podcast, web casting calls have gone out, there is a cast list and brief story synopsis in a few places online (mostly repeats of what's been said here) but TBH, it's a bit thin as regards the Firefly web series. (Deathdealers does exist on MySpace and YouTube)

Have you contacted the PDX Browncoats, based in Portland? That would seem to be an obvious move if you need extras.

I'm hoping my scepticism is unfounded, but seeing as how I'm podcaster too (The Signal: www.serenityfirefly.com - The original Firefly focused podcast about to start our 6th season) and would love to report this in our News segment as genuine, well, you can see why I need to ask.

We are big supporters of Firefly fan films such as The Bellflower and Browncoats: Redemption (which has indeed been shot on a Red One and is in post production right now) and would love to add another project to the list of shiny stuff coming.

Hoping to be proved massively wrong

Nick

I'll answer a few of these.

"While this idea is exciting, you have to understand that the fact that you have yet to provide any website information, despite being asked a couple of times, is odd to put it mildly."

The website is being built at present, and since I have been asked to help create it, I can confirm that there will in fact be a website. The url was purchased very recently and art and materials are being gleaned from several different creative forces connected to the project. It should be up and running within a few short weeks. The present focus is more on casting, costuming, sets and other logistics.

"Have you contacted the PDX Browncoats, based in Portland?"

I spoke with Justin just yesterday, and yes, he plans to utilize the PDX Browncoats as well as organizers connected to Can't Stop the Serenity. He has also contacted members of the Utah Browncoats directly by email and phone for props and location information, but I'll wait to expound on that point as the project expands and it becomes more relevant.

I think Oblivion could just use a little positive support, balanced with patience. The reach of the project is ambitious, and as a contributing prop maker and graphic designer, I have high hopes for it.

Now...back to work on props...

Yellowjacket's involvement gives this project a little cred.
I also hope to see Firefly Fan Films come to fruition.

It's just hard to provide a cheering section until there is something to cheer.
I would also familiarize myself with the other three projects that feature
an older ship...with a ragtag crew...secrets...rebel past...etc., etc;
to avoid repeating ground that's already been gone over.
Frumpy mechanic who's a genius with machines,
guy/girl with a girl/guy name,
found family, amazing pilot:
there are 60 billion people in the 'verse and I'm sure more than a few exciting tales to tell
that don't mimic Mal Reynold's story.
The Companion with political ambitions and a blackmail list,
the ship's mechanic who hates the job (but it pays the bills),
the Alliance war equipment business magnate who opens a small shop on the Rim to "drop out",
a coupla ideas I'm using and don't want to give away;
lotsa great folks with their own story in the 'verse.
There are lots of exciting locations to center 'verse stories.
They don't all have to center around the cargo bay of an old freighter.

Shiny! That sounds like very good news indeed (and very reassuring!). I did wonder if this was at a particularly early stage in some aspects, which would explain the difficulty in getting online info at the moment. Understand full well that these sorts of projects can take time to set up and execute.

The PDX group are pretty active (and I understand Justin has spoken to some of them yesterday) and I'm sure they'd like to be involved in some way as no doubt many others will be.

Glad to be justified in my hope to be proven wrong!

Good luck with this! Will stay tuned for updates.

There are a great many irons in the fire. Just from my camp alone there are some 30 different projects cooking for the web series, from paper props and digital graphics on the one end, to the research of filming locations and contacting horse wranglers on the other. Yes...if all goes well there will be horses.

Yeehaw.

It's a lot of work creating any one facet of a film or series, but I have some great contributors that have agreed to share their talents. My brother Andrew and my friend Chris are working on the development of ships for the digital effects catalog for the show. John (known as Namebrand to most) is working on posters, currency and other printed goods, and I for one am looking forward to his newest designs. Sean (Keelhauler) has sent me logos for the Keelhauler Transport and Trading Company, which will be included in some of my small and large prop projects. Even some of the replica work of Badger (from the Firefly Archive and Fireflyprops.net) will be featured in the production.
