Rallem -

As much as I enjoy your avatar & sig, is there a way for you to make 'em a bit smaller/faster to load?
Your's is the first post on the new thread & you killed my ADSL for about 2 minutes while they loaded.

Yeah, the big sigs can be a bear when the connection is slow, but not saying anything provides a cheap thrill (for suffering in silence, we RCs are like that.)

Their main page was reporting tha last week via Chrome 2.0, but not the top ten weekly page. After a few days, the main page was fixed. It takes different amounts of time for the block notice to be cleared by the different browsers. The Google notice indicates that the infection was first detected on the 13th.

IE8 also shows it as clear.

Looks like some of their pages were still infected, and they decided it was more trouble than it was worth to clean it all up. If it was an SQL Injection attack, there would be a real mess left behind.

It's been many years since I've done any coding, but in my brief reading of a SQL injection attack it seems the only use this has is to harm. What satisfaction could a hacker get from doing this to a non profit, non political, and non biased site like tvtally?

These days, the hackers use spiders to search for vulnerable sites, infect them, and then report back. Payloads vary, most seem to be for infecting visitors so a trojan can be downloaded to a PC.

Not surprised that TVTally got hit. The site is not maintained much, and apparently has not had its code adapted to defend against AQL injection attacks.

For years, there were usually for 5-10 votes a day at that site, mostly for Serenity. In the last few months, that fell to 2-3 a day. So far this month, the daily average has been more like 400 a day, most for Star wars. Not a nice way to end the year.

Something strange going on out there. There is some individual, or group, who is going around, using an automated voting program, to put Firefly and Serenity into last place in polls. Happened at the Stargate site, and Moviespeople. It's happening right now at the BBC site.

Whoever this is, they are not omnipotent. On the late TVTally site, they were consistently beaten at their own game by a Browncoat operated automated voting program. That Browncoat showed up for a while at Stargate last year, but then left, and has not returned. The Browncoat automated voting program has not shown up anywhere else since TVTally disappeared.

At the BBC site, the automated voting program showed up for a bit last Summer, but did not knock us out of first place. They returned a few weeks ago, knocked us out of first place, then started running Blade Runner's score then, a week ago, stopped. We always have a few people voting their every day, and we began to gain ground again. But then the automated voting program returned a few days ago, but putting out only 200-300 votes a day (instead of 2-3k a day a few weeks ago.

I have no idea who we offended, or who our champion (with the automated voting program) is.

Anyone got anymore info on this weirdness?

I can confirm your words. Two of mentioned sites are mine. You are absolutely right. Someone use a voting bot. Some days i got more votes than visitors and system was set for 1/day vote.

I am sci fi fan, i really love Firefly and Serenity but this is no way how to behave. Polls are meanless in this case and no admins nor visitors are stupid.

Problem is how to stop these bots. When i blacklisted spamming url, author changed it and everything started again and again... The only option how to prevent this cheating is removing Serenity from polls.

I just want to tell: Browncoats are fighters not scammers... pls act this way!

I guess this voter thinks he is supporting the Firefly case but he will reach the opposite result. People will start to hate Firefly from the time Firefly fan = cheater...

Think about, maybe is time to say SORRY and start from beginning...

What has become a monthly update of our continuing woes at the hands (tentacles) of the voting machine.

Over at BBC (newsvote.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6517155.stm), January voting there were 125 for Serenity (indicating at least half a dozen Browncoats coming by regularly), seven votes for Star Wars, four for Blade Runner , 10,538 for Planet of the Apes (apparently a voting bot)and 11,071 for The Matrix (the bot again). We are not in last place yet. The bot has got the Apes to 11.93 percent, while we are at 20.69. Since last December, total votes have gone from 44,853 to 94,896.

Over at Moviepeople, Serenity got 44 votes (indicating 2-3 Browncoats), Firefly got 43. At the Stargate site, Firefly got 56 votes.

There are a few of us still fighting the good fight against the evil bots. A few more regular voters would make a big difference. Apparently the voting bot is one person, and if that wuss goes away, we can repair a lot of the damage over time.
