There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I haven't finished watching Season Two yet, but I love it.

New to me, at least this season. I am enjoying right now the expansion pack campout. Found item stew is destined to become part of the vernacular.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I watched a bit but couldn't really get into it. Any recommendations for good episodes to try?

Hmm, you have to kind of be into MMORPG video games to get a lot of the humour in The Guild. Or maybe you are into those sorts of games (guess I shouldn't assume), but the humour doesn't really strike you?

I've kind of enjoyed all of the episodes, I'm not really sure which one I'd recommend.

I think Clara is the funniest of all the characters, in a horrifying irresponsible way. But she's just so PERKY too, I love that.

Vork also has some excellent lines.

Ah, that may be the issue. I did find I didn't really "get" it. Thanks!

I've never MMO'd myself, but I have friends who are former WoW and Diablo addicts that have been rehabilitated and reintroduced into society. I know some MMO slang from them, but that's not what really makes it funny for me. It's just the tried and true concept of a group of motley geeks and their love of their fandom (the game) and how it affects their lives and how they handle it.** I got my brother to start watching and he's now a bigger fan than I am. But he's just learning what MMORPG, FPS and all the other gamer slang is.

My opinion? Watch the first season in order. It goes by quick, but the Guild is something you need to watch in order because each episode ties in with the next.

I'm really loving this season. Stupid Tall Hot Girl (Riley) is wonderfully insane, which I like in a villain. And the Axis of Anarchy? Brilliant. Codex is still my favorite character though, with Clara and Zaboo next.

Your Indian Pirate Lord,
Ash

**I can relate, as I have been the uber-geek; sleep in line, RPG, debates, all that jazz.

I found it by accident about a month ago and before I knew it I had watched the lot! It's funny and well written by our Ex-Slayerette. The cast are good. Zaboo and Vork working the best for me. Codex's little monologues to web cam are delightful.

Love the Guild!

Our seasons 1 and 2 DVD's arrived last week and we rewatched them all, and now we're watching season 3 on Xbox Live.

The interpersonal relationships are spot on - anyone who's done any kind of gaming (and I'm coming from an old school RPG background, not online games) will identify with these character archetypes.

And Date My Avatar was brilliant! Still have it stuck in my head, thankfully!!

Watch the Guild!

Ah, yes. I was late coming to the ol' tabletop because my parents were very anti-geek, kind of dug into the misperception that games and RP could start to make a person weird. I already played video games, there wasn't much they could do about that, but some of their anti-RP rhetoric rubbed off on me for the longest time.

Once I got to the table, however, I was an eager student. I'd been collaborative writing almost all through high school, and RP was the logical next step. It's about telling a story.

I like the process of character creation almost as much as I like actually playing. It's not the twinking I'm so much big on, but quirky jobs roles and characters. If I get a good idea, I can spend weeks researching how I can best represent my idea in game, looking up unusual classes (if classes are involved) or homegrown skills and abilities that people have developed, and combining them in exciting ways.

Sometimes, I also like to try to render fictional characters into RP stats and figures, so that I have a better idea of just what they're likely to be able to do.

Also, the Serenity handbook is my very favourite RP handbook ever, and this was before I'd even seen the series. I didn't even know it was related to the movie! I just thought, ohmigosh, comedy, funny dialects, and western in space for the win! Nowadays, I use it a lot for my fanfiction writing, again because of the oh so useful character stats.

Plus I really like the plot point mechanism. Sooo useful both for narrative and for saving characters from certain death... Assuming you have a GM who doesn't have it in for you.

Wow. Sorry about that! Geeky off topic post.

I think I'm most like Codex. I have neurosis PILED upon other neurosis.

I haven't done much with my Serenity RPG. I'd never played a storytelling based RPG before, one that wasn't so dependent upon dice rolls, and I still haven't actually *played* a game yet, but we're planning a LARP in the near future with some friends that it will come in handy for. I have since played a storytelling based RPG tho, Dogs in the Vineyard, and discovered just how unique and fun they can be, so I'll be looking forward to trying it out sometime.

That article, btw, was hilarious :oD Spot. On. hee

I'm not sure who I'd say I'm most like in the Guild... Tink I think, because of my acerbic wit ;o) though I've never taken a guy for $4000+ bucks with the promise of sex LOL

I've mostly played the dice roll sorts of games too, but for me it's always the story that's the best part of it, and helping to contribute writing it.

Not to say what Tink did is okay, but Bladezz and Zaboo are walking talking sexual harrassment. And Bladezz tried to clean out all the guild loot. It's kind of karmic justice.

Plus he's a ninja looter AND a Rogue/Thief ganking griefer in-game, so haha. Mmm, garlic fries. :)
