Watched a fun movie last night bizzarely called "Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel. It was really good for a low budget production from the UK, with mostly British actors but the beautifully talented Anna Faris was in it also.

What does this have to do with Firefly!? Well, during a scene where the characters are writing to the studio bosses in Hollywood with their list of ideas, they demanded more Firefly and Serenity.

Their short list of demands went something like this:

Stop making so many crappy movies, here are a few tips to help you out...

1. Story is key!
2. Stop making remakes.
3. Jude Law.
4. Handjob first.
5. More Firely or Serenity.

The End.

I thought it was funny hearing the Firefly reference and so apt in this move all about Sci-Fi to have Firefly listed. Really fun movie, similar in style to Shaun of the Dead, and recommend it to you all.

Keep on Misbehavin'

I always had a question about "Somewhere in Time."
In the begining of the film, Elise gives Richard a watch. At the end she gets it back from Richard. There is no explanation as to where the watch originated from.

Thanks for the tip, had not heard of it. I've been getting mixed up between Anna Faris and Jayma Mays - they should play twins.

That's one of the paradoxes of time travel flicks - each one has that prop. Timerider had the pocket watch that was handed down from his great grandmother, and she got it from him in the past. Final Countdown had a bunch of them, like the dog, and the chief design engineer of the Nimitz, etc. I think it's called a loop paradox. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I begin to wonder if this is a fault in the plot or done deliberately for the fun with it.

Interesting. The same thing happens on Lost. A watch is given to one character to bring back through time to give back to the character who gave it to him after he gave it to him. :-P

Shouldn't the ravages of time destroy the watch eventually? Though I guess a watch that is never created can never be destroyed.

Brit, Scot, Mick, what's the diff? As long as you're not speaking American, you're all foreigners. That's why we so readily accept Sean Connery as a Russian, Spaniard, etc and Gerard Butler as Spartan, Russell Crowe as Roman, etc.

Something i didn't understand - why are Firefly/Serenity used in a film about time travel? That absence is largely why so many enjoyed them, no FTL or warping.

Haha some good points. Sorry for the Irish mistake, I guess it was a real Irish accent after all.

Not exactly sure about the "handjob" thing, that's what I thought he said, you are probably right. I still think handjob is funnier though :D

Sean Connery can only do one accent and that is his own.

Yeah the time travel thing is not fitting with Firefly, but the reference to Firefly was cool all the same.

so all yanks are really canadians with accents then?

that makes so much sense

the firefly ref is when they are in pub at start, talking about all the crap hollywood makes so they make a demand list of things they want to change, at end they demand that there be more firefly..... or serenity...

this is before they find the time leak in the gents, just a bit of old "banter" in pub before all the time bending being dead, furture and time loops + hottie yankie future girl etc etc.....

Nope, you got it backwards. All the people from Canadia are really yanks who say "aboot" instead of "about".

But yeah, most Americans are stupid enough that they think a "foreign" accent automatically means a British accent. That's why when you need a Hitler, you get Anthony Hopkins, and if you need a Roman, you get Richard Burton. I mean, honestly - don't Russian and German sound EXACTLY like English-with-a-British-accent to you?

Oh, and I think it probably IS supposed to be "Han shot first." But "Handjob first" is much, MUCH funnier.

Hello Daveshayne:

Which brings me to "Quantum Leap". Going back in time to alter the present. This could never happen, because going back in time is part of that period's history, so in the present time the time traveler had already effected the course and there would be no apparent change.

That is why Doctor Who is so careful. He knows what is ahead in the future and only assures that he does what is necessary to maintain the original course.
