Hey all!!!

Long time between posts, but this one is a great one and worth the wait! I finally completed all three of the Firefly costumes for DragonCon 2009 in Atlanta - and my yearlong efforts paid off!!!

Our friend Michelle went as River from Serenity, and we custom-sewed her dress off research and a pattern I worked on myself. She won SECOND PLACE in the Firefly costume contest! Meanwhile, my brother Jon and I went as Jayne and Mal (respectively). Apparently word quickly got around that we were a great Mal and Jayne pairing to get photos of and/or with!

I can't tell you how many times people told us we were one of the best Firefly groups at the whole convention (and with 50,000 people there and of that more than a few hundred Firefly costumers, that isn't shabby!) There were people who SOUGHT US OUT based on word of mouth!

Jon was given random Firefly-related gifts by two people who sought out his Jayne over the scores of others! Word got around that "Mal and Jayne" could be found in the Marriott atrium regularly throughout the convention!

Heck, one girl ran up to me without a camera and just wanted a big hug! Another told me she thought I was Nathan Fillion as she approached!

It was an awesome time and people also noticed our dedication to the costuming detail. I have attached photos below from the Con - ENJOY!!!!

We have a picture of you guys! You posed with my little boys who were dressed as Capt Hammer & Dr Horrible. Man, I wish River had been there too. That would have been epic.
Once I retrieve the pics (had to dump them on my laptop to make room for more) I'll post it here. You guys looked awesome! And way to act the part too.

Awesome! We very much remember that photo and have been looking for it online! Would love to have it for our scrapbook! Yes...unfortunately our "River" often didn't see the benefit of costuming that weekend and was often absent...until she won an award that is! Then she was all over it...Sheesh...

Way to keep 'er in the Air ! SHINY !

Today I saw a girl who looked so much like Kaylee , she sort of gave me the boo-boo-jeebies...But , in a GOOD way !

I asked her if she'd ever watched a TV show called 'Firefly' , and she confessed that she hadn't...

Then she asked , " Why , do I look like one of the characters ? " , which became a sort of tipoff that someone else might've asked her that question before...

I said ," yeah , you look like a character named Kaylee , played by an actress named Jewel Staite ."...She made sure that she knew Jewel's full name , so I got the notion
that there could be some image-googling in this girl's near-future...

It took me a couple of minutes to screw up the nerve to ask her , so the results were gratifying...She said a friend had asked her the same things once before...

I hope to see this girl again , bein' she is 'So VERY Pretty' , and I told her that she should consider it a high compliment that a friend thinks she looks like Jewel...

She's shapely , probably just a tetch taller than Jewel , nice long legs and all that , but apart from that there's an UNCANNY resemblance...

If I can have anything to do with it , I'll make sure that she has a chance to discover the 'Verse...

I've also spotted amazing Jayne Cobb'ses at an auto parts store and a Mexican fast-food place...

And there's a girl at the 'BlueSun BoxMart' that looks a LOT like River...

Anyone have experiences like this ?

Awesome work on the costumes , BTW , and I think that your 'River' could also be re-made into Inara , believe it or not...

You guys looked fantastic. I caught Jayne and Mal for one of my pics (please let me know if you want the copy; nothing fancy, just used my point and click). I wish I caught the whole band though, Kaylee looks mighty cute and River looks very close to Summer!

Very sad the one party I wanted to attend (Shindig) was kinda ruined by friends of friends who didn't have passes, so they couldn't go in, and I didn't want to leave my group. Ugggh.

But back to the positive, great job and the costumes and here's hoping we'll see it again in 2010!
