America loves a winner!

Sorry if already posted. Just heard of them via The Signal podcast. They played 1 song, I missed the name of it, but it sounded really good! It ( http://www.myspace.com/riverandthereavers ) sounded a bit like a group liked.... a while ago, Magnapop. I need to listen to more, but anyone else up on River & The Reavers ?

Very Browncoaty type band!

The T.Rex they call JANE!

I remember Magnapop saw them live back in 96.Isn't useing the names River and Reavers a copyright infringement?

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I think one of the founders posted something about the myspace page a few weeks back, but it fell off rather quickly. I think they called it a 'fake' band in the post. Obviously they aren't fake in the sense of not playing music. Maybe he meant they aren't out for profit.
...In which case, no, it wouldn't be an infringement. Even if it was for profit, though, the word 'Reaver' has come up elsewhere (even in the dictionary of all places!) and the word/name 'River' is just all over the gorramn place, so I can't imagine how anybody could rightfully say, "Hey! We own those words!"

Did The Dead Kennedy's ever get sued over their band's name?

I'd like to check R&tTR out in person.

I personaly don't think it's a copyright infringement but if you use both river and reavers together it means firefly.

Unless they use images or logos associated with the series, or quote dialogue word for word throughout all their songs, and make money at it, they're not violating anything. You could call a band 'Firefly Serenity' if you wanted, as long as you had your own logo and your own photo shoots and wrote your own stuff. And the stuff you wrote could be about the show! There's a ton of that kind of music out there. It's known as filk - fan folk music - and it spans many genres and muses. The Lords of the Rhymes never got in any trouble with the Tolkien estate, and they used character names right out of the books. A lot of artists and creators love that stuff, actually, it's kind of idolizing. Even if they don't love it, though, they'd be pretty hard-pressed to put together a case against it. Thankfully, there's a lot of fair-use laws protecting parody and homage.
