... and go to the networks. My crazy Jedi mind drugs allowed me to see that many network suits are eyeing Joss with thier palm palantirs.

Hmm...

Perhaps HBO. Obviously - screw the wonks at FOX and the WPN. They have proven themselves to be rats over and over again. We don't need any more convincing of the soulessness of such 'people'. Considering how UPN treated the Buffy phenom I'd vote for frell UPN hard in the pipe. They are famously full of messing with shows and forwarding a right wing agenda.

You know, if Angel isn't successful enough for 'them' then 'THEY' aren't marketing it enough. THEY failed... not Joss and his crew. Think about it. Seems to me Joss and his production did everything and then another 100% to make these shows the best they could be. And did!!!

Joss and Co. should leave cable and go to the Networks. Except perhaps HBO as it's the only cable network worth bothering about when it comes to actual production.

The point is that Joss and Co. have proven themselves to be the most innovative TV creators in 10 years. Too bad all Joss and Co's bosses didn't care.

You know *chuckle*, don't take my advice... I live on an island off the east coast of Canada. But having been marginally involved in Sci-Fi production has taught me one thing; Talent is the most feared attribute in the Arts. TV and movies especially.

Well, of course the movies would be a great place for Joss. But... and this is a big but... Joss has created a unique TV experience that I'm VERY sure will be talked about for years and decades to come.

Just some thoughts... so what advice does the Jossite community favour?

... IIIII I like big butts and I cannot lie! ... sorry, the rhythm got me.

Though the idea has a certain appeal to it, I'd likely end up downloading eps since I can't get premium cable in my area.

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

Oh, so you want left wing agenda then?

Cable Channels and Premium Channels are just as notorious as the main networks. Probably becuase one of the main networks owns the cable and premium channels. So you will have the same execs running it.

My solution to the problem. Joss Whedon should but a TV Channel and use it to air great shows both new and old. He should also make sure that his channel doesn't get gobbled up by Clear Channel or one of the other major media companies.

Then we can see all the great TV shows and maybe even bring a few back to the air, Firefly and X-Files would be great. Maybe even bring new shows to the air that would never get pass an exec to being air.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Networks are not interested in quality programming, only reality shows, as that is what is drawing the ratings right now.

I think Joss should relax on Angel for a bit and see how the Firefly movie works out. If it works out as he & Universal hopes, and it springboards into a series, then that will be a proven formula. He could then do an Angel movie w/ a potential springboard script and perhaps get aired right behind Firefly.

I say, screw the gorram networks entirely, do the episodes as cheap as they can, and send 'em off to every local cable access station in the Contiguous 48.

Either that, or post em on Ifilms.com or somesuch.

And what's this I hear (quietly rumbling) about Firefly hitting PS2/XBox/Gamecube? (Wouldn't it be cool if Shiny Entertainment was behind it?)

This came as a "I heard it from a guy who heard it from a dude who knows a chick who talked to someone who lives next to someone in the industry" thing, not even an actual webposting anywhere...

I would like to point out that the same people that own the networks also own the cable channels as well as the premium channels. If they squashed it on network then chances are they will squash it again on the cable and premium channels.

And we don't want cheap. We want the best that Joss can get us.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

lol! Goofy Newfie! Close, me be n' Island bai!

And you are right - I failed to make any distinction between the Networks and the Cable Networks and who owns what. For example, I believe the 'current' state of UPN goes something like Paramount owns CBS which is a real Network while UPN lost it's network status and is still owned by Paramount. Or something... it's all a blur to me.

Not a well thought out forum, sorry - how about this...

What is the best future for the Joss crew? Not Joss the man, but Joss and the production. Where would all these stories we love find a home?

I'm telling you, they should create their tv channel and run it themselves. I'm sure they have the money if pooled together and if they bring in a few others who have had their shows axed.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

^^^ good idea but it's not practical. Not even a little. But I do like the sentiment. We can dream right?

Enterprise actors have mentioned this. It's a rumour that soon became obvious. Have you seen that show? A real crime. And I fel the need to say ANY interferance from tptb is just wrong (Left-Wing isn't any good either though I will say no one was ever killed by left wing propoganda... unless they were bored to death). And it always has.

You know... no one ever told Clint Eastwood how to make a movie. NO ONE EVER. It's a fact (apparently).

The current state of TV and the issues of who owns what is suddenly become a real issue on this website. Please... if some nice person over in Hollywoodland could drop a few actual facts into this thead for the Firefly fans to chew on we might be able to come up with a new understanding. At best, we give Joss and his crew some unintentionally bad advice. *chuckle*
