I hope this has not come up before (If it has I'm sorry).

Are there many browncoats in the South Eastren Wisconsin / Northren Illinois area. And if so, any interested in doing a shindig thing. I got some friends, family, and co-workers that are fans, and would be interested.

I'm really just seeing if there is already and group already setup in the area. And if not then I need to make one.

Hey, I'm here in SE Wisconsin (Waukesha actually). There's a big fancy shindig planned in Chicago by their Browncoats. I found out about it on accident, don't know if I can make it though... http://www.browncoatball.com/index.html

I think we need a Wisconsin Browncoats division. Slowly but surely I am converting everyone to this show, I haven't found a person yet who doesn't love it! you can email me at ladybtvspike at netscape.net or IM me on AIm at ladybtvspike if you wanna chat.

I'm in Wisconsin--just the other side of the state in La Crosse. Still, I get over to Madison and Waukesha for work sometimes and would love to meet other Browncoats!

We drive through there almost every year. We're not going this year, but almost every Memorial Day weekend we go to Madison for WisCon. I'll drop a note next time we pass through. Sometimes we go camping at Eagle Cave in August, too.

SerenitiyValley, By any chance are you the fabulous TheStormCellar from the Caritas boards??? I saw Wash in you ID and had a sneaking suspicion....

Look at all the Wi Browncoats coming out of the woodwork! That could be because it is cold and we all actually have to wear coats...

Have you ever been with a warrior Woman?

Great. Im I live in Darien, in Walworth County. About as far southeast as you can get.

BLACKEYEDGIRL one of my friends who is a fan lives in Waukesha.

I was looking around for any fan activity around here and I saw I just missed a shindig in January at the safehouse in Milwaukee. Did anyone got to that? Are there anymore planned?

One Milwaukee Browncoat here.

I can't believe I missed a meetup at the Safehouse. I work 1/2 mile from there. Foo -- that's what I get for only occasionally lurking.

I'd definitely be up for some sort of shindig. And, given our Wisconsin location, we'll probably easily be able to use this: "Don't you just love this party? Everything's so fancy, and there's some kind of hot cheese over there."

Hey, this is Dave of the Chicagoland Browncoats. (I actually reside in Shorewood, WI.)

We just hosted a room at the Capricon Convention in Arlington Heights, IL in late January. Won for Best Theme Party for our Blue Sun Party.

As others have mentioned, the Browncoat Ball is scheduled for later this year. http://www.browncoatball.com/ if you want to check it out.

We're having an informal gathering March 6th in Northern IL. Official details are posted over on the OB in Chicago Mini-Shindig thread I believe.

We should all get together again...I went to the Safehouse for the first time last month and it was cool. Let's get together there again!

Yep, I went to that one. We (The Chicagoland Browncoats) have been finding an excuse to get together once every 1 to 2 months.

We've had get togethers at:
Last Year's Capricon Fantasy Con in Arlington Heights, IL
A restaurant named Firefly in Chicago
The Ravinia Music festival north of Chicago
The Renn Faire in South-East WI.
This year's Capricon
A viewing party at someone's home in a Chicago suburb.
Apple Picking and lunch at Apple Holler in South East WI.

For a current list of what we're up to visit the forum at: http://www.vampirefan.com/

Hope this helps.

Don't know if you're aware of this yet, but there is a Sci-Fi Convention called Oddessy Con happening April 2-4, 2004 at the:
Radisson Inn
517 Grand Canyon Drive
Madison, Wisconsin 53719

Last year, the organizer for this con was impressed by the presence that the Chicagoland Browncoats brought to Capricon and asked if we could do something for this con. Unfortunately, we weren't able to support that event. If any of you have an interest in helping to spread the word of Firefly, contact Jerome Van Epps through his con website: www.oddcon.org .

I would be willing to make stuff someone could distribute at the con to help promote Firefly, but I personally don't have the time or money to go myself.

I'd be interested, but I don't know how I would be able to. At least not be myself. So what, this is just going to be these three guys? Joe Haldeman, David Weber and Eric Larson?

Those 3 guys only represent a small portion of the overall con. If you check out programming, it lists all the tentative events and panels.

If you should happen to attend just out of curiosity, make sure attend the Luke Sienkowski performance. (You can check out his web site at www.lukeski.com ) He's promised to do a Firefly song eventually. His Buffy song is absolutely hilarious. Like Wierd Al he does parodies of existing tunes. However, his lyrics tend to lean toward sci-fi/fantasy. His tribute to Bender of Futurama is also hilarious. He's also done a song about Angel.

I think OddCon is mostly panels. A panel being a small group of people considering themselves to be knowledgable on a particular topic. They then field questions and direct discussions based on their chosen topic. Capricon, on the other hand, had their con events happening on the lower level and a group of suites reserved for partying. At Capricon, the Chicagoland Browncoats pitched in to reserve a Party Suite where we showed episodes during the daytime hours and threw a party during the evening (and early morning hours). For more details of what we did, check out the "capricon - jan '04" thread at: http://www.vampirefan.com/forum/index.php .

Holy cow! And here I thought I was the only Wisconsin Browncoat! Im from Watertown, but I go to school in Milwaukee. I wish I would have known about the safehouse shindig, seeing as how im only a few blocks away from it. I think we should definatly start a Wi Browncoat group.

In case you're curious, I graduated from MSOE in 1996 with a BSEE.

Back when the "Save Firefly" postcard campaign started I tried to contact MSOE's scifi club, but didn't get a response. Since you're currently on campus, do you have a feel for how many Firefly fans exist at MSOE? Right now, the main push is to spread the word of Firefly and to encourage people to vote with their discretionary income by purchasing the DVD set. Firefly is currently holding its own on Amazon.com's Top Selling DVD List. It'd be nice to keep it there as long as possible to demonstrate the ongoing demand for Firefly.

How many fans on campus...well lets see, there's me,...and me....and.....
So far, no one I know had even heard of it when asked, let alone seen it. The two guys I talked to that are a part of MAGE(Sci/gaming club) said they had never heard of it either. So my guess is that fans here are few in number and keepin quiet.
I've been trying to convert some, but seeing as its been a tough quarter, no one's really had the time (espescially me) to sit down and watch it.
Hopefully when the new quarter stars (break just started) I will have time to force people to watch.

A coincedence you say? Or perhaps it is just cause there are SO MANY firefly fans out there! There's so many, there's bound to be a lot in each state, even Wisconsin for Pete's sake! Whoohoo! See, why'd they have to go and close down a show will so many faithful fans, ay?

Ohhh my goodness. I've told my husband that if I ever leave him for another woman, it could only be Honor Harrington. I'd love to listen to a panel discussion with David Weber. Honor is da bomb!

I don't know if it is feasible but it'd be nice to have a showing of at least the pilot episode on campus. I'm sure there are a lot of potential browncoats there.

During one of the quarters that I attended MSOE they showed movies in the cafeteria in the evenings once a week or so on a "never quite in focus" projection TV screen. (This was of course before the 3rd floor of the building on Broadway was remodeled into the student center.) I don't know who was in charge of that projection TV. I wonder if they still have it?

Also I'm wondering when the sci-fi club is planning to have another Con on campus. I believe they were playing movies on various TV screens during that. I managed to make the one when they had Gene Roddenberry Jr. but only because they announced it on the local news station and then only when they were wrapping up the Con. You'd think they'd announce that kind of thing in the Alumni newsletter.
