I couldn't be sure, but I thought my DVD was skipping. I was wondering if anyone else could confirm.

It happens when Inara is taking her sponge bath in "Serenity". The very first shot of her squeezing the sponge. I can't tell if it skips, or if it's part of the visual style that it kinda "hops".

Thanks.

MY DVD doesn't skip. Perhaps you need to clean the DVD or it could be because your DVD Player doesn't play layers very well and skips from time to time when changing layers.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

It's intentional, not a skip. It matches the way "Serenity" aired on TV.

Not only was it intentional, but some people on this board have speculated that it might be integral to a plotline about time regulation. Now, that doesn't mean since it's not comin' from Mutant Enemy, but it sure is fun to speculate.

"You didn't have to wound that man."
"Yeah, I know. It was just funny."

I had first thought "ah, layer change", but it seemed an odd place for one (with two other episodes on the disc).

Thanks for the replies.

Time regulation, huh?

Thanks for posting this! I got the DVDs two days ago and I noticed that and thoght something was wrong with that DVD but I hadn't goten around to posting.

The side the machine reads looks kinda funny, it has this kinda uneaven discolored spot like the DVD burning machine was drunk. But the only unusal thing was that part of the show, and the skip was intentional so its no bigie.

Well, my first disc is somewhat fucked up.
At first it didn't run on my flatmate's modded Xbox. IIRC it hung up just before the menu. On a regular player it still had problems. After cleaning it the DVD player runs it fine, but the XBox still won't :(
Ah well, guess I'll HAVE to pick up a region 2 set when it comes out (my own Xbox has a better dvd drive than his) and keep my region 1 edition to loan out to people to get them hooked :D

Similar things have happened to me with two different DVD sets. NEVER get rid of your receipt until you have played every episode of every disk.

The second time it happened I talked to the clerk at Best Buy about it. This wasn't a skip, but there were two Disc Number 3's in my first season of NYPD BLUE. The clerk told me that with DVD sets, this happens a LOT. They have more returned DVD sets due to faults than anything else in the store.

It simply has to do with the sheer number of DVDs that get produced and put into boxes. Mistakes happen. Just be sure you buy from someplace that won't give you a hassle about returns (Best Buy has always been hassle-free and extremely courteous to me...) and keep your receipt.

Oh, you were talking about the edit. That is definitely an edit and not a skip. To untrained eyes it could look like a skip but you can always tell if it is an edit or if your disk is skipping. It's hard to explain on a board as to how to tell the difference though.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

I just got my DVD set last week. And the very first time I watched "The Message," it skipped when we first see Tracey sit down in the battle to eat his beans (before Zoe kills the Alliance scout). Has this happened to anybody else? I tried cleaning the DVD and played it again, same thing in the same spot. Anybody have any suggestions on how to try and fix it?

Well, returning a dvd set to Amazon.com from Europe is a bit of a hassle
