I was watching Serenity last night for the umpteenth time and noticed a subtle reference to the series I hadnt noticed before. Mal was answering Inaras wave in his bunk shirtless. There is a scar on his right upper torso that to the uninitiated, is just a battlescar you would expect from a man in his line of work. But to me it was the scar from Crow's blade in The Train Job.Any more that you guys can pick out?

I did notice that, but it would be interesting to see if the scar from the bullet wound in Out of Gas is noticeable. OR if there's any hint of scar tissue on his ear from War Stories. OR the sword wound from Shindig.

I'll be on the lookout for those now.

Mal: You think she'll hold together?
Zoë: She's torn up plenty, but she'll fly true.
Mal: Could be bumpy.
Zoë: Always is

Yes, it has been written before now that the scar was from crow, but the error lies in that they didn't give Mal a scar there when he was naked after Saffron dumped him off in the episode Trash. I don't blame them though, you can't think clearly about every detail when the network is in the process of canceling your show.

Here's one for you. In the pilot episode mal got glanced across his left upper arm in the shootout with Patience. For the rest of the show his coat is patched at that spot. A nice little detail if you like looking for details.

I suppose you could also say that the sword tne operative carries is a reference to "Ath" and the fact that Mal cant handle one too well.

The other injuries are much lower down and I dont think the camera panned thart far.As for the ear, I believe the machine the senator appropriated for Mal was good enough to disguise any injury.

But no scar from the bullet wound on the left arm from Whitefall. Oh well. You want guarentees look to dying and being taxed until that day.

Bearing in mind that the bullet wound on Whitefall was "just a graze",it may well have not left a particularly noticeable scar.

Arrrgh.

A few years ago someone had made a screencap of that scene with an analysis of all of the visible scars. I just spent a few hours combing through the archives here but I cannot find it... I'm hoping it was here and not another board.

Anyone else remember it?

ETA: Figures, I didn't think to check the Blue Sun Room until after I posted....

In the above you can clearly see Crow's damage.
-----------------------------------------------

Here's another, you can make out what appears to be a bullet wound on his left bicep? Maybe?
-----------------------------------------------

You can see Crow's stab as well as another slash. Do I remember him getting slashed during the Shindig fight? It's right in the middle of his torso, a bit hard to make out but it's a slash of some sort.
-----------------------------------------------

Only real lower torso angle shown, can't see much.

Insert ass slap joke....

I think that the blade is such a memorable shot (besides being a stab wound--those tend to leave "prettier" scars than slashes do) that they absolutely had to put it in.

The slash in the middle of his just would most definitely be from Nishka's torture device in "War Stories".
