If Firefly had continued, who would you have wanted to see as a guest star at some point in the show?

My vote's for Keith Szarbajka. You know... he who was Holtz, on Angel? I can absolutely see him as a captain out there in the black.

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

I cant really say who I would have wanted to guest star, but I can DAMN SURE SAY who I wouldnt have wanted to guest star- No pop/rock/rap musicians looking for a cheap pop- How many TV shows have you seen this on, where it's "look who it is, Pop Star X, performing her special hit song in exchange for a few lines on the show!" Boston Public (before I quit watching it) started doing this every week, and I can think of a bunch of shows that do it -
I'd like to see B-grade actors all in the guest spots; you know, the hard-working guys no one ever notices- The guy in Shindig (Larry Drake? I think) who helps Mal is one- Bruce Campbell (Autolycus from Herc/Xena; The Evil Dead guy; et. al) would be one I'd have liked to have seen maybe- People who are hip but not totally hot at that particular moment-

Oh- Kurukami, I had asked you before, but I dont think you saw it- Where's that quote from? About History? It sounds like Douglas Adams, but I'd like to know-

How about finishing up some more hat tricks? Some I found (on IMDB) who have been on Buffy & Angel (as different characters), but not Firefly, are Tom Lenk, Camden Toy, Leland Crooke, Erik Betts, Jack Conley, Justin Shilton... Well you get the idea.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Definitely Bruce Campbell. He is the best B actor IMHO.

I have to agree w/ SevenPercent about the rock/pop/hip-hop stars. I get sick of seeing all these American Idol stars popping up on Fox shows looking to get face time. Or Coolio in Space Above & Beyond; absolutely no acting talent.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure of the origin. It's something I picked up on another discussion list about five years ago, along with "English not only borrows words from other languages, it chases those languages down dark alleys, beats them senseless, and then rifles through their pockets."

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

"Character" actors - not 'B' actors. 'B' is less than 'A'.

Character actors are those familiar faces who do their job so well, they become familiar faces.

As for a wonderful character actor I'd have enjoyed in Firefly ... Peter Wingfield. mmmm, He played Methos on Highlander. He has also done a slew of British TV and movies.

Peter Wingfield as a brainiac scientist with less than obvious interest in River. He'd know what he saw when he saw her but we wouldn't know if he was a good guy or two by two hands of blue guy.

I'm also thinking that the little kid who does the *zoom zoom* commercials could do a voice over of Serenity's engines. :)

Well, since there has been a scarcity of asian actors on the show, how about Daniel Day Kim, who had a recurring role on Angel as well as a stint on the short-lived Babylon5 spin-off 'Crusade' (and a bunch of other guest roles, including in '24' and ST:Voyager): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0196654/

RIVER

Good. Thanks for the update.

I think Nicolas Brendon (Xander) would be a nice guest spot. Going with the western theme..Willie Nelson might make a good "settler" on one of the outer planets.

Good point shiny. There should be more asian actors on Firefly considering the premise.

BRUCE CAMPBELL, DEFINITELY!!!!!

You can even SEE the kind of role he'd play. Probably another smuggler like Mal, who NEVER has good luck, and the crew of Serenity has to bail him out somehow. It would be a great comic relief-type episode.

Regarding Character Actors, we certainly have seen our share. . .

In "Shindig" the guy who plays Atherton Wing ALSO played Duncan Idaho in Sci-Fi's "Dune" and "Children of Dune."

Also in "Shindig", the gentleman who played. . .damn, I can never remember names, but the BIG guy who Mal wanted the work from. . .He was the mob boss/main bad guy in the movie "Darkman" and he was also in the Sci-Fi series "Prey". . .

ALSO in "Shindig", the older gentleman who insulted Banning Miller in order to 'rescue' Kaylee has played in MANY 'old west' tv shows and movies.

Joss knows how to put familiar, but not OVERLY familiar faces in stuff.

HERO

I would like to have seen Patrick Stewart playing the evil corrupt commander of an Alliance Cruiser.

Maybe some of the cast from Babylon 5, lot of good actors there.

How bout Buffy; maybe coming in as Mal's long lost sister and getting it on with Jayne (now that would be a Firefly moment).

JAYNE'SJOJO

Ryan Reynolds from nathan's TwoGuys/Girl days...him and Wash would have perfect comedic timing together.

Laurence Fishburne would be perfect. And if Wash thought he was insecure with the Captain around...Laurence Fishburne, whew.
How cool would it be to have him as the only man who can make Zoe go "girl giggly"...

Bruce Campbell... hmmm, yep, I could see that. But SMG? Somehow I find myself considering the size of her in comparison with the rest of Serenity's crew. Look at it this way -- remember how slight Jonathan Woodward was by comparison with the rest of the crew in "The Message"? And how much he towered over SMG in "Conversations with Dead People" back on BtVS?

Hell, for that matter, look at the comparative sizes of Caleb and Buffy in the latter parts of Buffy season 7. She's but a wee slip of a lass, who Jayne would likely trip over while en route to his bunk...

Anyways, I'm leery of putting in people who are or were regulars on another Whedon series. There's so much history bound up into the actor, when you've watched their exploits for five-plus solid years.

On the other hand, Jeff Kober would be intriguing to see. He's got that right devil-may-care look about him to be a browncoat. Others I'd like to see would include Mark Dacascos and Russell Wong.

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

He also played Sydney Bristow's fiancee who got himself murdered in the Alias pilot.

And who else saw Saphron 'Reynolds' in an episode of Tru Calling a few weeks back?

Here's my list of who should guest star:

Andrew Robinson: DS9's simple tailor, Garak.

Rosanne Barr: As Jayne's mother

Dan Castellaneta: It's always fun to see Homer.

Dennis Franz: He's gonna be outa work after another year.

Laurence Fishburne: Think Gina could convince him? Pleeeeeeese???

Jack Conley (alias, buffy) for another hat-trick but also cos he is a talented guy and would have made a good shadowy character, maybe someone from back in the war, or someone against Mal.

Other ones for me, a few western idols, to fit in with the styling of the show, from the spaghetti westerns, maybe a lunger and his friend, a lawman from the east....hold on, thats Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday!!!!

Robert Carlyle (Gaz in The Full Monty, Begby in Trainspotting, Col. Ives in Ravenous) is absolutely amazing in everything he does, especially villany. Also, Henry Rollins. Hmm, I think that needs emphasis: !!Henry Rollins!! That's better.

Brad Dourif, cause he's soooooooo creepy.
You could use him in so many ways in the FF universe, and he's a righteous character actor.

I also second Bruce Campell, the perfect guy to play a fellow smuggler who's been out in the black a little TOO long and is thus, loonier than Jubal Early.

Oh yeah.. and Dennis Leary, cause after watching him do Edgar Friendly in Demolition Man, this is DEFINATELY yer go-to guy for head of the anti-alliance faction that got river rescued.

First, let me just ask, wasn't Keith Szarabajka on The Equalizer? (I loved that show!)
I think it would have been cool to have the one and only William Shatner do a guest appearance.
I believe that because of the History on the show, there would have been more Asian actors. The ever popular Lucy Liu would be a good one. BD Wong is also a wonderful actor who would be fun to watch. (He did a guest spot on an episode of the X-Files, and is presently on (I think) Law & Order.

I have to go with Domanice Purcell- Perfect as any core worlder, magistrate, or allance officer.

Can even do the insane thing if there arnt enough other actors who can do it.

People only beleive somehting if it's in a movie

Yeah! Peter Wingfield would be excellent.

He did a character on Stargate SG1 that made appearances in several episodes as an antagonist for SG1. He plays a very convincing bad guy.

Yep, I'm on the Campbell bandwagon. I always wanted to see him on Buffy as either Xander's dad or Xander's uncle Rory -- there's enough of a physical resemblance between him and Nicholas Brendon for that to have worked really well. But no, no. Never happened. So get that man on Firefly!

Also, I'd like to see Robin Sachs, but for Whedon-Watchers, he might be too identifiable as Ethan Rayne.
Maybe perhaps Billy Drago as well? He's always creepifying.
