Jericho fans, who were caught using auto-vote programs on both TV Vote and TV Tally are back at it. A couple of them used to just vote in batches to boost their vote, but it's obvious from the voting pattern that they are using an auto-voter again, knowing that the folks at TV Tally could care less about their own site.

So what's the correct response? I've been carrying Firefly through a few rounds of catch-up with their cheating, but I don't have an auto-voter. Nor do I care to spend the 2-1/2 to 3 hours a day it takes to keep up with them.

So, do we quit? Do others join in batch voting? (No need to clear cookies or anything like that.) I'm open to suggestions...

(I did like the suggestion for my User-ID!)

How does the batch voting work?

In your email - Jericho folks may read this, too. They may not have shared their methods with all of their voters...

OK, that would work. But why wouldn't the Jericho folks tell all their buddies about it? You could automate it with some scripting. Is that what you meant by a voting bot?

Did the Flatman over at TVvote have a sniffer to detect that kind of votebot? I believe he did, but I forget. It's tough to keep that sort of thing out, and many sites don't bother.

This kind of automation is not new. I first ran into various bots back in the 1980s, on CIS and GEnie. Why not just let everyone know and run with it?

At TV Vote Rich was able to analyze the results and timing and tell what was happening. TV Tally early on had the same problem, but now they don't care what happens. I don't know about scripting, but I assume that's what the bots do.

As for telling everyone, Jericho fans used to swear none of them would ever cheat. Now when they see 900 votes in a day instead of their previous 75-100 they're just all smiles. (Sort of like here, when I fight back against them!)

Flatrich analyzed the IP address to block fake ones (including proxies, which are, sort of, legal fakes). A script could always get around the timing issue by dropping the votes in at random times. Hard to detect that.
