My GF and I love Firefly. The amazing thing is that she is not an SF fan; she loves the characters.

My question is: is there any talk at all of another network reviving the series? How about the Sci-Fi channel?

I really can't watch that Stargate crap (and I LOVE Sci-Fi), it is too stupid and the characters 1-dimensional.

Anyway please let me know if there is any real talk of reviving this show.

Thanks much.

In a word? No.

There's plenty of discussion as to specifically why all over this board, if you have any mind to dig for it. But no, the best we're hoping for right now are some comics, which reeaally isn't the same thing, but they're fun enough.

What RiverDancer said.

There's not much hope of more Firefly or Serenity, but there is a big ole wonderful Browncoat community to hang out with. We do lots of charitable work, have fun shindigs, march at DragonCon, have screenings each year to commemorate Joss' birthday and give to charity and have fun.

We're also tight knit, hang out together a lot, discuss other good SciFi series and generally have a lot of fun.

There's fanfic galore- some very very good. There's artistry that will blow you away.

We can always hope ( even if it's hopeless - we Browncoats are good at that kind of hoping ), spread the word ( see this website for ways you can do that-

http://the11thhour.home.att.net/

and be a community together.

And, of course, there's always rumours. :)

I try to be hopeful about everything I hear and think up. It helps.

Rumours are fun. I personally still hit all the websites hoping that a thread will contain the news of more. ( I'm persistent like that. hee )

But I'm not unrealistically hopeful.
I share FF/S with everyone new in my life - gently.
I take part in BC community charities in what capacity I can and most of all I treasure the friendships I've made in this fandom.

Browncoats are the best and I enjoy being here very much.

I saw on youtube.com Joss at a convention in Australia where he told the audience it would be almost impossible to recreate the television series because too many of the ingredients which made the show great were done, but he did say that he hoped for a sequel to Serenity and possibly a third movie.

Apparently Fox's rights to the show expire in 2012. Anyone know whether this means they just have to renew the rights, or whether the rights default back to the creator or what?

They have a plan of sorts, but they need as many of the Firefly fans to get on there as possible. If you read the group info, there's a professional animation artist who works at Island Planet One Productions who seems interested in spreading the word if we get more people.

The original hope was that there would be a trilogy. Those hopes have long since been quelled.

Joss has understandably moved on to DollHouse and a movie and perhaps a ballet with Summer Glau. I'm not saying he's not interested in doing more FF/S. Perhaps he is, but until a production company pays for him to do more, there won't be more. He's said so.

There's been so much discussion on this board and others about Fox's rights and when do they end and Uni's rights and when do they end. Do a search back in time on here and I'm sure you'll find lots of threads to read. The rights likely will not default back to the creator...the production company usually owns the property because they're putting up the money for it.

The only thing that will bring back Firefly is for Joss to want to and for someone to pay for the movie. Period. Anything that can be done by fans, has been done by fans a long time ago.

This is what I understand as well. As far as I can tell (as a layman) this means that Fox's TV rights expire. What I get from that is that they will no longer own the TV rights, DVD or otherwise.

I believe this will open up possible future deals with TV or cable channels to produce episodes of FF/S and get the DVD rights as well. Which would be important to any production company because they, and not Fox, would stand to make a killing on future DVD sales of the series. As it stands now if, for example, Sci-Fi produces a series Fox would benefit because they own the DVD rights.

Yeah... annoying though. If BSG could make through all the way to the end at 4 seasons, I swear FF would be fine if they gave it another try. Oh well!

The business world usually cares very little for art. It is annoying but a basic fact of life. Money is the god of Hollywood and that's the only place at this point where another movie could come from.

I loved BSG. I was fascinated and fell hard. Had some problems with S3 and the ending, but all in all I was a huge fan.
I think that the SyFy channel ( using their new name, might as well get on with it ) could make a mini series of Firefly. I think that Uni could put out a straight to DVD movie of Firefly with lower production costs. I really don't see either one happening, but that could certainly be a more viable option. I'd love to see Firefly play out over something besides a 2 hour movie. Too fast, too much expected and Joss and Tim both excel at arcs and longer story telling.

Stargate SG-1 was a great show on Showtime. I can't stand what Syfy has done to it, so I have a hard time watching it.

Firefly revival is impossible, all of those people have careers now. Maybe they'd get together for a movie or something.

Except that they won't. At least that's what history tells us. As in, every single FF/S product has barely recouped costs. So, 'a killing' isn't exactly likely.

You're right, Serenity sold, as of 9/9/07, only $1.3 Million worth of DVD. This, of course, was before the Blu-Ray version. In movie studio circles that's the budget for the mail room, not a big hit.

Maybe that's why it's been put on the back burner.
So I wonder why they made a Blu-Ray of both the BDH and FF the series? Hmmmmm, I find that odd. I imagine that Fox would only make that move if it made money.
