Good one.

Watching it now--still too early to tell.

It's kinda been a Whedonverse night:

Summer on Big Bang Theory
Adam on Chuck
Allison Hannigan on How I Met Your Mother
Nathan on Castle

Not the greatest show ever but diverting enough. Perhaps it was my lowered expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. Nathan really does bring the smarm.

Good line. I like this show. I'm not sold on the cop chick yet, but Nathan was a riot. Good to see him on screen being entertaining again - I didn't like the car show much. Wow. I guess I found that one so disappointing that I've blocked out the name... Sorry Tim Minear!

It's not a show you go to for much substance, but it sure was fun! Yeah, I'm not sure about the cop chick yet either (she's got some promise, and the cop was more believable than the daughter I thought...), but Nathan Fillion made the show fun, interesting, and snappy. His expressions are priceless! The brown coat was an excellent touch; I hope it's not the only time we see that wardrobe item. Of course I'll be watching next week! I wish I had seen Summer Glau earlier in the evening--that sounds like an interesting appearance.

Do you think they'll ever get Stephen King to join the poker table?

Just finished watching the new ABC comedy/detective tv show CASTLE staring our very own Captain Reynolds, and now I can say that I am more impressed than I thought I’d be. Not that I had any doubt that Nathan Fillion wouldn’t do a good job, but an actor can only be as good as the material they work with. CASTLE had a better story for it’s premier than I thought it would and the writers were able to tap into Nathan’s sense of humor and comic timing.

I’m not sure if ABC will come up with a fan site and forum board but they should. The show does come on a little late ( 9pm central time) but it was worth catching it’s debut tonight. I do feel that our honored crew of Serenity are being sought out by networks like ABC and NBC because those networks well understand the brilliance of Firefly and it’s rather disturbing execution by the f*>< network. By having our BDH in new tv series they are launching they understand that there will automatically be a following of browncoats. That right there is a fair amount of viewers to start off with.

For anyone that was unable to catch tonight’s episode (Monday night’s CASTLE) try to watch it on the net if you can. I don’t think that you will be disappointed in the least.

Z, raises a glass of mudders milk, “ Great job Nathan, and my congrads to the cast and crew of CASTLE. Everyone did a fine job.”

Great review, ZZETTA13! I feel pretty much the same way, but you expressed it with more eloquence! The networks DO seem to be showing some smarts, I agree. Someone's surfing the 'net there! Now if only a "suit" would do something to gather the stars in the unforeseen but hopefully not waaaay distant future...! I guess this thread is about Castle though, excuse the derailment!

Nice! I got my parents to watch Castle (I'm converting them to Firefly as well) and when the show was over tonight, my father called me and said, "We loved the show! It was so funny and had a great concept. Oh, and did you see who played that father? It was [see spoiler above]!" I was like... "Are you sure? I'll take your word for it since I wasn't paying that close of attention." Leave it to ABC to get some awesome cameo appearances--power of the network!

I was just the opposite. In the first few minutes of the show, the daughter was the only character I liked, Rick Castle included.
It took me a little bit to warm up to Nathan's character. And I'm still not sold on Beckett.
But by the end, I was lovin' it. Husband too. We're sold.

I was seriously impressed, it had a nice flow for a pilot. Not perfect (most pilots aren't by any means) but a lot better than most shows pilots.

It's not going to be like Law and Order, it's more about the characters than the crime of the week (or that's what it looked like, could have been pilot exposition though). But I'm totally ok with it because a lot of shows have shown light on the crime, heavy on the character play is really entertaining, and it's got a lot of potential to snag those who watch Psyche, Bones, ect. Nathan's got the character nailed, and I loved all of the chemistry between the characters (especially between Castle and his daughter, it was a really nice dynamic). I'll definitely watch more.

Yay! Good show for a BDH! And a sweet brown coat!

(Sorry Nate and Tim, Drive never really pulled me in)

I thought it was great.

That 'exchange' between Castle and the cop at the end ("it would have been good between us") was horribly network-cliche, but otherwise I loved it.

I was wary of the cop from the promos, but I think she might grow on me.

Did anyone have a flashback when Castle dropped the key? That was a very similiar 'huh' to when the captain opened the crate and first saw River.

I thought they'd carry out the copycat-killer storyline for more than one episode....but I'm glad they didn't try to use the concept to carry the entire series.

Can't wait for next week!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Okay, I stayed up and watched for the Captain. I don't normally do cop shows, but being as it's Nathan and it is a cop show with the twist of a murder novel author helping to solve crimes I checked it out.

Not too bad. Wasn't blown away mind you, but it wasn't bad either. The Castle's daughter charmed me right away. Her wit and sarcasm made her immediately likeable to me. Rick grew on me through his charm and inability to follow simple instructions. Castle's mom got on my nerves fast and I find her annoying. Beckett, the detective, just did nothing for me.

I'll tune in for the next couple of episodes to see how it shapes up.

Spoilers below be warnned…..

CASTLE the first 30 seconds……..autographing a female fan’s bosom; Rick Castle, “ Let me know when you get ready to wash that off.”

I knew then this show could turn out better than first expected. I also thought the daughter did a very good job. The mom, yep was a little annoying I think too, they went overboard with that a bit. The detective reminded me of the female detective that’s on “ Law and Order” (a show I don’t watch but my wife does) she may grow on me. Yepper saw a lot of Malcolm Reynolds moments on the show and it does take it’s liberties with facts and fiction. I think that was part of it’s charm.

Anyway, good start. I’m ready for round 2.

If it weren't for Nathan I wouldn't give it a second glance. That said, it's not bad for what it is, and Nathan really sells it (female lead's not bad either - not her fault she didn't used to be on a show we like to call...Firefly). I reckon I'll keep watching it, especially since there's nothing else really competing for my attention in that time slot. In some ways it seems like a waste of a perfectly good Nathan, but then I guess that's his look-out.

ETA: Castle's mom and daughter were pretty decent, as well. Almost forgot about them...

Yea! I wasn't the only one who had the same reaction to that moment! I thought of that immediately.

I really liked the show. As said above, it's not something to watch for realism, but it's charming and fun. I thought our cap'n did a terrific job and I'm going to watch it again. (I did tell my friends but none of them watched it! Their loss, I think, but I'll try again.)

I haven't watched the whole show yet, but the 10-15 minutes we did watch were entertaining and made me want more. Nathan was fantastic. He and the creators made the character fit his personaility and humor which was great. At one point I blurted out Captain Tightpants and my wife laughed out loud. I'm trying to initiate her into Firefly without much success yet, so I told her that was just a snippet of what she's missing out on by not watching it with me

My husband is having a good laugh at my expense over "Castle". I have a pretty strict "murder is not a form of entertainment" policy, so we don't watch CSI, NCIS, etc. ever. Then comes Nathan with this show. Huh. So I watched it. And I liked it. A lot. I think the two main characters are perfect foils off of each other and the acting first rate. The show is more about character interaction than the technical points of killing another human being. I can't believe I'm looking forward to a murder show. Sigh. Just goes to show - never say never unless you like eating your own words and providing endless amusement to your significant other - especially where Nathan is involved.

THESOMNAMBULIST

At last a show that just tries to entertain and not just try to change the face of TV. I liked it.
Full of clichés but then in 45 minutes you need that to find the characters pronto!

Refreshing however that the father daughter relationship is solid and not saddled with the usual angst and dumb rebukes ( I loved the way he pushed her along the hallway). Nathan was hysterical and I think this will elvate his status as a lead who can take the weight of a show, and I'm surprised so many of you weren't keen on Becket. I thought she was excellent. Cute too! I like the fact that Nathan's character realises he's annoying and rather than try and suppress that, he makes himself even more annoying. Brilliant. It was funny seeing Steven J. Cannell at the poker table poking fun at the 'formula' of being a writer.

And yes, the whole seen with:
"This psycho needs a breath mint - Tell me you saw that!" and - "The safety was on." That was great.

I did like the female detective. Although I wanted the story to really make us feel sorry about her having to work with an arrogant writer, crime scene investigation savant (and Nathan Fillion!) though he might be. I kind of wish she'd come across as stronger, without a secret fancrush on his stories. "I'm here and this is what I do" instead of "I lost someone close to me and it still hurts." Maybe they can still add a snarky element of "and thanks for bringing that up, BTW" to that.

So I hope she steps up and manages to show up Castle's character a few more times than just the "you believed his alibi" moment.

And I also enjoyed getting to see Nathan play his strengths again. Someone somewhere said that Nathan always brings out the most obnoxious qualities of his characters: to that I say, no, he's playing to their flaws, which make the characters more interesting than some bland perfect superman type protagonist.
