Does it irk anyone here that the franchise, due to the movie, is now labelled 'Serenity' rather than Firefly?

All the new graphic novels and such are labelled so.

Now that Universal owns the property, is it THEIR mandate that it goes by this new and unique (to them, that is) title?

Is it now and forever re-branded?

And, as such, should we stop asking for ANOTHER season of Firefly, and instead ask for a FIRST season of Serenity?

Maybe they ain't giving it to us cos we just ain't asking right.
;)

I think it could be to do with the fact that Universal owns the rights to SERENITY, whereas FIREFLY was owned by Fox.

I have no idea who's behind this merchandise, but if Fox is unwilling to do anything about merchandise, then it's possible the money/permission/whatever is coming from Universal, and so it has to be labelled SERENITY.

It kinda irks me, as I prefer 'Firefly' to 'Serenity', as whenever I think about it, I think more about the show than the film.

So I'm not sure it's rebranded, as such, just depends where it's coming from.

But again, I say that I have little to no knowledge of this subject.

That's almost exactly correct. Big surprise, Fox bigwigs have shown little interest in marketing Firefly. Universal have licensed all sorts of stuff under the Serenity name and that's what the license covers, Serenity. Not Firefly.

I might add that the folk in Fox Licensing are not the same as the bigwigs and in my experience of talking with licencees, have nearly always been reported as being helpful, and some Firefly licensed stuff is out there, or will be, but yeah, it's a trickle compared to Universal's Serenity.

(PS. The site above is "serenityfirefly" because a)"fireflyserenity" wasn't available as far as I know back in 2005 and b)it sounds better. We love 'em both :-)

Anything further in terms of films and merchandise will be based on Serenity. So I refer to everything having to do with either firefly or serenity as being part of the "Sereniverse". -But that's just me.
