TV Duds Rate as Studs in DVD Market - Reuters/Billboard (several positive Firefly mentions)

The Letter writing campaign has been put on hold for now. We have received word from a couple of sources that Universal is, at this point, on board with movie, and that the current stumbling block is elsewhere. So as a result, we have been asked to put our letter writing campaign directed toward Universal on hold for now. Thanks to all those that participated, I'm convinced it has helped. In the mean time, feel free to follow through with our other guerilla marketing ideas, and continue converting friends, family and complete strangers to the Firefly fold.

And all this on my birthday. I'm just plain lucky!

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

I hope some day in the not so distant future we will all know WTF is going on? This whole thing is confusing as hell. I was out of touch a few weeks, and wanted to write som letters tomorrow, but now I´m told not to ?!?

I hope Universal gets to clear the moorings on this project and can get all the other actors out of their engagements.

Let´s hope the best.
I can´t wait to see this movie. :)

Its really annoying not knowing whats going on obviously its encouraging that universal seem to be on board with it but there seems to be a hitch somewhere and its impossible to tell whether its something minor or something really major.

I'm guessing it's probably a conflict with finding a schedule or contract that works for all 9 actors, or getting the set and stuff back together. Either way, we're getting closer to seeing our movie being made, but it might just take longer. As long as the end is worth all of this, I don't mind!

Okay, here's what happened to Jeremy over at fireflymovie.com.

A few days ago, Jeremy got a knock on his door. He opened the door and saw two men in dark suits and sunglasses standing on his doorstep.

"Are you Jeremy?" One of the men asked. The other man continued smoothly, "We're from Universal Studios. May we come in?"

A few minutes later, Jeremy served them tea, trying not to act nervous. One of the men began to speak:

"Jeremy, you probably know we're here because of your Firefly fan site. We work for Universal's "Fan Management" division. We like you, son, and we want to bring you to the inner circle."

Before Jeremy could speak, the other man continued, "That's right, you're with us, now. You see, we need you to tell Firefly fans to quit writing postcards. The movie is a go, but the news can't be public, not yet. And you're not going to tell anyone, either."

Jeremy gulped. "I'm...not going to tell anyone?" he said in a strained voice.

"You see Jeremy, here's how it works," said the first man. "You help us, then we can help you. If you keep quiet about the Firefly Movie, then we'll give you lots of insider fan news for your website in the future. Just think, you'll have the best Firefly movie site in the world! But... if you betray our trust and tell everyone about the movie, well then..."

"We'll make sure you never run a fan site. Ever. Again." The second man finished.

"I - I'll tell everyone to stop writing postcards."

"That's a good boy, Jeremy."

Jeremy was in total shock as he shook hands with the men and shut the door. The men drove off in a black limousine.

You know, I've been searching for Mutant Enemy's website (Joss Whedon's production company, for those of you who are obscenely uninformed) and you know what? It doesn't seem to exist. I think that us Firefly fans, and the like, would really appreciate it if there were one (hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge). That way we could get our information directly from the source instead of having to suss' it out from a bunch of heresay and scuttlebutt. Just a thought.

Now I have the urge to blabber on. Chris B. owns the domain name.

If you look at the website, it is a big broken picture looking thing. This site is live and being hosted. But the HTML code shows that someone made the Index page using MS Word.

And the code says 20th Century Fox in it. I'm guessing it will be live very soon.

'Tash that was a sharp piece o writin' for two reasons:

1. It was entertaining and got to the point with little fuss
2. And it stopped me reaching for the holster (okay, I was only thinking about it; wasn't going to, you know, go for it . . .)

Anyway folks: Movie deals are brain-fryingly complicated. So many lines have to connect the dots that it's a wonder anything ever gets made . . . . long winded explanation deleted in my head . . . Let me speculate that Jeremy (DVDguy/Jasedai) has good ;-) connections. As does Allysongurl on the main FF board. Whenever they post, they are telling you as much as they are allowed, but must not reveal their sources because of . . .

And last, because of securities laws and other legal requirements, TPTB will likely release the news via the mainstream and trade media -- altho probably simultaneously with the online world.

remember the "old days" when you didn't know a movie was in the works till you saw the trailer for it at the theater? Those were good days. In those days, you didn't have people making up rumors about films on the net or posting spoilers everywhere to ruin the suprises for folks.. I will never understand the impatient attitudes of people. "I have to have news NOW!" ...like you're so special that ME really needs to keep you in the loop about something.. not bloody likly (otherwise you'd know already).

I would rather it take them 10 years to make the film and have it be the best thing Joss can do for Firefly than have it come out in 6 months and be total crap that ends the franchise forever.

Yes, but look what Jos did with 14 hours of Firefly in less than six months.

Imagine what he could do with 2 hours of Firefly in 6 months.

And I'm not expecting the film for at least a year or two to come out. But it is always fun to read te rumors and such just to see what might be happening.

And if it weren't for the rumors of a Firefly movie than none of us would have ever known that one was made until we saw the trailer and might give up on Firefly in that year or two.

These rumors are the best form of advertisement for Firefly right now. It has a created a frenzy for Firefly that continues to give Firefly publicity and bring in more people into the fandom that otherwise would not have happened.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

In terms of the movie, Firefly, of course, soon, by the sounds of it. In terms of the next installment from Master Weber, I'm not sure. I read the Bayen website that he had a broken wrist - from strain of ceaseless writing,I've heard - so it may take a little while. But considering that he has pretty much written one installment of the Honor Harrington series per year and a half, when you average the early novels in with the newer ones - "Echoes of Honor," "Ashes of Victory," or "War of Honor" - so here's hopin.'

Note: This has been another Shameless Plug for Firefly's literary equivalent; The Honor Harrington series by author David Weber.

In the event we hear anything new about the movie at Whedonesque you guys will be the first to know but I have to admit the vast majority of info posted about the movie at Whedonesque we get from this excellent site.

Only thing I can suggest is keeping an eye on the Universal websites and any interviews with Universal execs. Something (allbeit very small) may turn up there.

It would seem that the rumors that the movie has been greenlighted has spread to the Official Firefly Forum and has created a frenzy over there. We all know (or at least most of us do)that Adam Baldwin posts regularly over there and recently he has gone silent on the posting. This maybe a sign. I think a good sign.

But I think it is also a good sign that other people on other fronts are getting the same information that the movie has at least been greenlighted by Universal and some other sources have claimed that the movie has gone into the production phase.

I am really hoping that these signs are true and that the rumors we have been hearing are true.

Here's to hoping.

Adam Baldwin post under his real name, as does Nathan Fillion, though he does not post as often as Adam.

Adam has been scarce at the official board due to some rather unpleasantness that occured a week or so ago. He is still there, just lurking most of the time.
