I thought it would be just like the Collector's Edition DVD except with better picture and sound. That would have been fine with me since the Collector's Edition had a lot of good Extras.

What I really liked about the Blu-Ray was the Picture-In-Picture feature. I knew that the original commentary would be presented PIP, but I didn't realize they would also have a PIP feature that would occasionally pop up with Behind the Scenes snippets. It was pretty awesome. I have seen most of the interviews about Firefly/Serenity over the years, but this PIP feature had parts of the interviews that I hadn't seen before.

The Digital Tour of Serenity that pops up during viewing is also pretty cool.

For some reason, my PS3 won't bring up the Alliance Database.

Operative: "Its worse than you know..." Mal: "It usually is."

Thanks for your opinion, I am waiting to get one until later next year, and I was wondering how it was working (PIP). I can't wait to see it myself...

thanx for the info

The Operative: That girl will rain destruction down on you and your ship. She is an albatross, Captain.
Mal: Way I remember it, albatross was a ship's good luck, 'til some idiot killed it.
Mal: Yes, I've read a poem. Try not to faint.

Mal: You have to open with payment.
The Operative: That is a trap. I offer money, you'll play the man of honour and take umbrage; I ask you to do what is right and you'll play the brigand. I have no stomach for games.

The Operative: I already know you will not see reason.
Mal: The Alliance wanted to show me reason, they shouldn't have sent an assassin.
The Operative: I have a warship in deep orbit, Captain. We locked onto Serenity's pulse beacon the moment you hit atmo. I can speak a word and send a missile to that exact location inside of three minutes.
Mal: You do that, you'd best make peace with your dear and fluffy lord.
The Operative: Pulse beacon.

I'm still waiting on the local FYE store to stock my preorder of Serenity on Blu-Ray. It never showed up on launch and they're yet to call me that it has arrived. I'm thinking of dropping my preorder and ordering on Amazon but we'll see. Out!

Zoë: Do you really think any of us is gonna get through this?
Jayne: Well, I might.

Zoë: How much ammo we got left?
Jayne: Three full mags, and my swinging cod!

The Operative: Do you know what your sin is?
Mal: Aw hell, I’m a fan of all seven… but right now, I’m gonna have to go with Wrath.

River: You take care of me, Simon. You’ve always taken care of me. My turn.

Mal: They take you down, I don’t expect to grieve overmuch. Like to kill you myself, I see you again.
The Operative: You won’t. There is nothing left to see.

Same here. I just Googled the issue and found this thread: http://forums.highdefdigest.com/blu-ray-software-general-discussion/75

Message #29, about three-quarters of the way down the page offers a solution to delete the BD live content if you downloaded it.

I haven't tried it so can't say if it works.

Yep, I tried it last week and it worked. I was able to browse the Alliance database just fine after deleting the downloadable content.

Haven't gotten around to getting my copy of the Blu-Ray yet, been busy, but I'm gonna get it by week's end. Thanks for the info though, it sounds really shiny.

This Blu-Ray thing could be really shiny with all the bells and whistles it has. PS3 is really shiny gadget.

I was asked to post this here in another thread. <_<

I don't know if it's new to the Blu-Ray version, or if the other versions had something similar, but there's also some really in-depth information about the crew and the verse on the Alliance Database in the Extra Features.

Stuff like where Kaylee's from, historical events, major planets in the verse and their relation to the war or to activities as seen in Firefly...

And everything is accompanied by a few relevant seconds of video capture. I found Mal and Zoe's dossier file to be particularly hilarious: it's pretty obvious the video captures are supposed to be post-war mugshots. Mal has the beginnings of a black eye, and Zoe seems to be in rare Dust Devil mentality super-pissed camera flipping-off form.

All the information, of course, is taken through the screen of a heavy pro-Alliance bias, but it's still quite informative.

Yeah, I read something about that in a Serenity Blu-Ray review on the net.

Thanks again for your input.

Cool! does it say where the Battle of Du Khang was? Planet Wash was from? Birth Date of Mal, or year? River's birthdate? The first year of production of Firefly craft?

Expired, forgotten, spoiled rotten.

This sounds absolutely awesome. One day I'll have money for such shiny things such as well as the shiny electronics that make them work.

Are the menus any different? I've never been terribly fond of the regular old DVD set menus.

Birthdays, yes, although I remember the information on Book was kind of classified, so there wasn't much available. Can't remember if it gave Wash's birthplace (but his capture has his mustache!). And I'm not fully certain if Kaylee's birthplace is the name of a planet/moon or the name of a town.

Don't know for the Battle of Du Khang or New Kashmir, though judging by the information there IS, I'd say either Hera or Persephone, because I imagine the Alliance turned Shadow into a black rock pretty early in the war. Those three planets are indicated to be the three major Independent planets of the war.

01-model Fireflies first started manufacture in 2464 through 2473, 02-models from 2468 to 2469, and 03 models from 2469 to 2498 (about 15 years before the start of the series). Serenity is an 03-model. Got that information from the RPG handbook, though.

Can't find the bluray review thread.
Did some shopping this weekend. Got the bluray Serenity, and after so many stores said Firefly was not available on bluray (including bestbuy, which only had Chuck), finally found a store with FF/BR and got that also.
Now I should get a bluray player, got a first and second choice picked out.
Then I should probably get a big screen to watch it all on. Does anybody think a 32 inch will be large enough to clearly see all the new stuff? will 720 be enough to see the hidey features?

If the review thread can't be found, I hope to use this one to learn enough tricks for finding the secret features.

After picking up my new bluray player and widescreen, got home and connected up most of it. While shopping, had noticed some dvds on sale. At home, to test out connections and modes, tried some.
First up was NYPD Blue, season 3 - this starts in 1995. First discs, first episode, first non-regular cast speaking part, and I'm thinking No Way. can't be. Check the credits, sure, it's Gina Torres. A warm glow forces me to watch more episodes in case more shiny stars appear.

I haven't got a Blu-Ray player yet (workin' on it!) - but I have to know: where is li'l Kaylee from? I'm sure someone once mentioned Three Hills, and that's the way I've written it in my fics...

IIRC she was from Kowlonshi. Unknown if related to Kowlon Fed Base.
