Hey, this is my first day on the board, and I'm already getting all obsessive. I swear, though, I can quit any time I want!

Just wondering...we got any California Browncoats out there, or am I it? I live in San Diego, and would love to get to know some fellow Californian residents of the verse.

KYFHO - Keep Your F'ing Hands Off (my body, my mind, etc. etc. ) Cry of the Libertarian (not the party). Kinda hard to explain - sorta extremely pro individual freedom and though. They believe that the rest of the lot are sheeps - blindly following the herd - and needs to be saved (by them, of course).

Might not be unnecesarily false in most instances, but kind of insulting all the same (the part where the sheeps need to be saved by equally all-consumed characters) - although they don't think so. Well, at least the sheep part is true, what with the kind of crap that they are feeding you on TV nowadays.

Berkeley Browncoat lunatikat reporting for duty, or goldbricking, whatever ya got. I'd like to meet some folks in the world, if you're interested, Shiny. We may have passed in the net previously, I've posted before on the idea of meeting up, and I'm still looking to do that thing. My internet connection is through work, so I'm not online as regularly as some, but I'm still here!

While you're on this table you're safe.

Yeah I'm a California Browncoat I'm in Stockton on highway 5. Hey if any of you kids are down with getting together I can be reached at

fizzywig26c@aol.com

Just make sure you mention on the subject line this is about Firefly because I get rid of everything that I don't know what it's about or who it's from. I get a hell of a lot of spam.

Oh and by the way everyone thinks Stockton is a giant evil ghetto or Oakland. It's not I'm not from here but I rather like it.

Not exactly. I have no intention of saving anyone. I DO NOT interfere in other people's lives. No individual can be freed save he free himself. Far be it from me to prevent anyone from getting what is coming to him. You are reading into it something that just isn't there.
You are correct about the "extremely pro individual freedom" part however.

By the way, what does "freedom and though." mean?

ABOVE ALL ELSE: KYFHO! Is the title of part three of F. Paul Wilson's 1980 novel, An Enemy Of The State. A Sci-Fi novel about a revolution among the stars.
(Gee, wasn't there something like that in Firefly?)

Here is a quote:

"Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm -- or never be capable of harming -- you or yours again."

from the SECOND BOOK OF KYFHO (Revised Eastern Sect Edition)

Sign up, say where you are, and when there are enough fans in a nearby place, you can set up a meeting-- a mini-shindig of sorts.

I'm down in Cupertino, myself... which for those unfamiliar with the smaller urban centers of California is the home of Apple Computers and about five miles west of San Jose.

Heh... maybe I'll run into some of you at DunDraCon. Just look for the guy in the black suit, white collared shirt, black tie, and blue gloves.

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

For all you S.F. Bay Area Browncoats out there, there's going to be a mini-shindig on Mountain View at the end of the March:

Quote:

OK, we're on for another Shindig in 2 weeks:
---------------------------------

Following on the success of the 1st San Francisco Bay Area / Silicon Valley MicroMiniShindig which
was held in January of this year, the 2nd will be held in the same venue:

Day: Wednesday 31 March 2004
Time: From 8pm onward

Place:
Mountain View Tied House Cafe & Brewery (in the big biergarten out back)
954 Villa Street, Mountain View, California 94041
Ph: (650) 965-2739
http://www.tiedhouse.com/locations/mtn_view.html

The first MicroMiniShindig attracted around 30 people, and was great fun; see:

http://www.survivalarts.com/archives/000755.html

I've reserved a section of the same beergarden for 30 people, but if we have more this time (and I suspect we will), I'll need to plan accordingly. Email me at the address at the end of this message and RSVP ASAP.

As was the case last time, I have reserved the use of the TV in the beergarden (which I'm assured *will* function properly), and we'll be airing the 2nd and 3rd episodes of Firefly (we watched the pilot "Serenity" last time). This airing will start at 8:30pm, after we're all at least a bit liquored up.

Alan Weiss, AKA "WINBEAR2" on the Prospero Firefly Forum, will be in town again, visiting from Austin, Texas.

If you're coming, RSVP to me at:
whitaker at best dot com

Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones!
